I hear you. This is exactly my logic too. :-)

A warm THANK YOU for everyone recommending Tal Bauer's Hush here in this group. I wolfed it down during the weekend and absolutely loved it. Now I'm really, really looking forward to reading everything/anything from this new-to-me author. Yay! (That's such a cool feeling.)

Cool. It is a good feeling when that happens! :)
I should read more of his books. I've only read one Tal Bauer book, A Time to Rise, and it was crazy over-the-top fun and wildly entertaining--non-stop action, blood, the Vatican, Templars, vampires, priests, Roman sewers, the Swiss Guard, exorcisms, and more! Recommended if you want something in that vein.

Her book Enemies of the State is great as well!

- Ada Maria Soto's Life Saving Dal, recommended here, is a lovely, quiet story.
- And i braved Alexis Hall's spooky story My Last Husband. Very well written. Creepier than I usually can put up with, but also, I felt like there was an undercurrent of humor, which made it better. A bit over the top and sort of reminiscent of the 1983 movie The Hunger, which is completely different and yet this story has a similar vibe, I thought, especially the ending.

Have any of you read any good LGBTQ+ romances that are not MM that released this year? I'm looking for some for our next We Are Pride list, and we are swamped with MM, of course. :-)
Thanks for any recs you've got! You guys are the best!

Here are two that I've read and can recommend. I'm trying to think of things I haven't read...
--An Unsuitable Heir by KJ Charles. Non-binary/male
--Don't Feed the Trolls. Non-binary/female

Btw, should we have a Christmas reading list? Where we sample Christmas stories?

Thanks for a..."
Jordan, do you have a separate category for books featuring trans characters? Or are trans characters included in the m/m and f/f lists? Because there are a few books I can think of that I haven't read that have a trans main character and are m/m. Like EE Ottoman's new one (yay!), which comes out next week and which I am so freaking excited about.
Oh and I guess I should also ask if there's a separate list for bi and pan characters? Same situation there.

As it happenes, I started Christmas story season today with a listen to Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles. I read it last year and only now got the audio book. Will switch to The Dickens with Love et al. very soon.
Christmas story seem to work extraordinarily good in audio. :-)
Alison, it’s all going on the same Romance/Erotica list. Only about 11 books will go on the official list, but we’ll be making digital lists in our online catalog of all the “rejects” that couldn’t fit on the printed list.
Anyway, we’ll take anything. Definitely more trans characters are needed, more bi, pan, all the ones most people don’t think of when they think Romance. Although, I think we already have three Ace characters, which is pretty cool. :-D

Cool. This means I can mention my (arguably) favourite book I've read this year that came out this year: Peter Darling by Austin Chant. It's m/m with a trans MC and completely awesome.
Other things I have read and can rec that came out this year (M/M) :
--The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee. Bi MC. YA/NA historical.
--Afterglow by Elliott Junkyard. Trans MC. Cute, smutty short story.
--The Chains of Their Sins by Anna Butler. Two Bi MCs, one is grey-ace. Book four of a series.
Things I haven't read (yet) that came out this year:
M/M:
--The Doctor's Discretion by E.E. Ottoman. Trans MC. Historical. Releases 28/11!
--Grounded by Aidan Wayne. Trans MC.
--Starting from Scratch by Jay Northcote. Trans MC.
--Sharing Secrets by Matthew J. Metzger. Trans MC. YA.
F/F:
--Barbary Station by R.E. Stearns. Sci-fi.
--As La Vista Turns by Kris Ripper
--Blades of Justice by Jess Faraday, Helen Angove, and Rachel Green. Novella collection.
M/F:
--Heart of Cygnus Five by Alex Beecroft. Bi MC. Book two of a series. Sci-fi.
--Not Your Villain by C.B. Lee. Trans MC+ aro/ace MC. Book two of a series.

Thought of another one:
--The Rules and Regulations for Mediating Myths & Magic by F.T. Lukens. M/M with a bi MC. Cute YA Paranormal.

Yes! Very! :-)
Awesome! Thank you so much!
We have a few of them already, but there are a lot that we don’t have, so this is very useful. Woot!

I adore Christmas stories, old and new :)

I don't know about it, but usually I like her stuff:

Frank W. Butterfield's Nick Williams Mysteries: https://www.goodreads.com/series/1846...
I'm on book #12. Here are my reading notes for #10: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
If you want to get a really good sense of this series look for Ulysses Dietz's reviews of each book.
FYI:
The main setting is San Francisco in the 1950s.
There are a few slightly annoying typos, and some of the plots are "built like topsy."
Some real-life people show up as side characters.
All intimate scenes are fade-to-black — in the very best vintage movie style. :)

I am curious to know what will you think of it:

Warning: If you strongly react to typos and mixed mistakes stay away, because apparently this is a trademark from this author, it was the same in Me and Mine, which I didn't find special, but for other reasons.

I’ve read it. It takes a while to understand what’s going on, but it is fun. Interesting take on aliens.

I see that a few people from our group have read Peter Darling and rated it highly. I admit I saw it not that long ago, and while I did order it for the library, I was a bit skeptical about it. However, now that I see several of you have rated it highly, I got my own copy and plan to read it soon! I need to dive deep into romance novels asap and not come up for air for awhile. :-)

It's my favourite. I don't have strong feelings about the original Peter Pan, so liking that doesn't have to come into it. It's arguably my favourite thing I've read this year and it totally connected for me. It's funny and moving and wonderful. Austin chant has written some other good things too. I hope you like it.

I wasn't so sure about it going by the description but the sample caught me and I liked the book lots. :-)

Oh good. Yeah, the original I'm not a big fan of, so it's good that that's not necessary. :-)

I think so far this year, my favorites are His Quiet Agent and Fair Chance. They stick in my head most, and I've read both of them at least twice, if not more than that.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

I love this series, too. I see a young Randolph Scott as our former fireman.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

I would hope it's good since the only one available to me costs 80 dollars ;-)

Well, it is delightful, but not 80 dollars worth delightful.
Here there is one for EUR 25, could the shipping be so expensive?

Yes, I only knew of it because of Josh and I absolutely loved it. It is a wonderful book. I should definitely re-read.
Just got my print copies of Josh’s STIS and Ada Soto’s HQA in the mail last night! Soooo excited! I’m loving all the extra Christmas codas with STIC!

Um, if it's the same thing, I believe it is now on Archive of Our Own. And you can download and read it as an ebook. Please let me know if the link doesn't work. Perhaps you have to be a member (though membership is free).

Okay, it looks like the original Larton Chronicles uploaded with the author's consent, as original Pros fic with Bodie and Doyle.
I do NOT have time to read this! (Along with the other 20 or so long fics I have bookmarked here.) LOL

Thank you for recommending it. It was quite «aww!» ;-).

Those are the best reviews. The ones where the reader was sincerely thinking about the books, considering how to communicate those feelings.
So many reviews -- gifs not withstanding -- feel phoned in these days. I realize it's because readers are doing their best to keep up with the tidal wave of books coming their way--we all need reviews so much!--the reviewers feel the pressure to keep those reviews coming. It makes those heartfelt, thoughtful reviews really standout. A couple of those reviews carry more weight with prospective book buyers than a dozen of the others.
