Ame | 1744 comments Mpreg stories are on my do not read list. Its just a big no for me no matter what.

But then again I rarely read fantasy stories.

Anne | 6816 comments The Monet murders. What a great book! Such joy to feel being in the good hands of an accomplished writer who tells a good story in such lovely prose. As always when I read a book by Josh I enjoy all the little details that paints the scenery and the background and makes the story and the people so vibrant and alive. The work of a master storyteller! Thank you, once again, Josh.

Alison | 4756 comments I'll get excited about Summerwode by J. Tullos Hennig one more time because now I have read it and it's amazing. It's so awesome I am reading it again now and it's even more wonderful the second time around. If you like big, meaty, queer historical epic fantasy with amazing characters or ever thought Robin Hood was super cool, this series is worth checking out. It's become arguably my favourite series ever.

I have the first two of this series and I still have not read them. I need to! I am such a Robin Hood fangirl from when I was very young. He was my hero, much more than King Arthur.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments I just finished reading An Unnatural Vice by K.J. Charles. The book is out tomorrow but I had an advanced copy. It is book 2 in the trilogy and it is a great follow up to book one. Well worth it if you like KJ's historicals

Dean Koontz is usually a fast read for me. But Dark Rivers of the Heart, is taking me forever to get through it! Of course, it's absolutely amazing. One of the characters reminds me of a character in the Fair Game trilogy, but I won't say who. So, by the time I finish this one, I'll need to read Dragonflight for my genre study book group at work. Maybe after that I'll get to The Monet Murders. I'm sooooo excited, the wait is killing me, but I can't put Koontz down yet! You know that insane feeling? Yeah... lol.

KC | 4897 comments I read this week (finally!) Of Mice and Men. I approached it with some trepidation, but it fit my reading mood, so it was the perfect time for it. I loved it. It's heartbreaking at times, but it's also sweet and occasionally funny. And so beautifully written in a way that reminded me of Hansen's writing - minimalist yet incredibly rich and vivid.

KC | 4897 comments Reading now The Cuckoo's Calling (mystery) by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling's pen name). Enjoying it so far. And there are two more in the series, which apparently are even better.

Finally finished Dark Rivers of the Heart this morning! Wow, what a fantastic read. Loved it!

Next up is Dragonflight. I'm reading this for my department's book group, so I've got four days to read it. *gulp!* lol.

Alison | 4756 comments I read the most delightful novella last night: His Quiet Agent by Ada Maria Soto. It's absolutely charming and made me happy. It's about two awkward ace people who find each other and I found it romantic and just really lovely. I absolutely loved it and I definitely recommend it. It put me in a good mood last night and I'm still in a good mood this morning, and it's a dark, grey Monday morning. :)

Josh's new books always leave me with difficulty to find anything nearly as interesting to read right after finishing the latest Lanyon book. After a few frustrated attempts to start with a book or a few, I decided to follow Karen's (and Bellbomb's) recommendation of Long Shadows (Common Law #1) by Kate Sherwood. I liked it! Thank you, ladies. Now I'm off to read the second book in the series.

My genre studies group is reading historical mysteries next, but we have a specific list of authors to choose from. Amazingly enough, in my exhausted state (I had to stay up late last night to finish the book for today's discussion), I have been able to find some books on the list that sound good. The problem now, is just narrowing it down to one. lol.

So, I'm debating between these interesting books:
Maisie Dobbs
The Winter Queen
Her Royal Spyness
The Face of a Stranger

Since I'm planning to read about the Russian Ballet later this year, and already read A Gentleman in Moscow, I feel like I should continue the Russian theme and go with The Winter Queen. On the other hand, Her Royal Spyness and Maisie sound like fun mysteries. And The Face of a Stranger just grabs at me. So... I dunno yet...

Love summer reading! I started His Quiet Agent last night. Thanks for the recommendation — it's unlikely I would have found it otherwise.

After the wonderful The Monet Murders, I've read and very much enjoyed:
A Gathering Storm
Cask Strength
Draakenwood
An Unnatural Vice
+ Hana Dare's Sing Out! trilogy (a coming-of-age story with a reality show singing competition setting) — Life in a Nowhere Town, California Schemin', and The Man Who Told the World.

A Gathering Storm (Porthkennack #2) by Joanna Chambers Cask Strength (Agents Irish and Whiskey, #2) by Layla Reyne Draakenwood (Whyborne & Griffin #9) by Jordan L. Hawk An Unnatural Vice (Sins of the Cities, #2) by K.J. Charles

Life in a Nowhere Town (Sing Out #1) by Hanna Dare California Schemin' (Sing Out #2) by Hanna Dare The Man Who Told the World (Sing Out #3) by Hanna Dare

The only one I know is Maisie Dobbs. Picked up one on sale and I think it was like book eight. I don't know how important it is to read these in order, but I still enjoyed it.

Antonella | 11565 comments I've read Buddha on the Road by Jeff Pearce by Jeff Pearce and I loved it.

It contains bits of Burmese culture without sounding like a guide (I've read such books), there is also a lovely romance, although the main thing is the very gripping murder mystery.

It wasn't exactly easy to find, I had to order the paperback to an address in England. I also found out why: the author wanted to let the novel die, because he considers it terribly out of date given the current events in Burma. I didn't think so. And it was published in 2011.

JFYI: Jeff stopped writing m/m and never finished The Fourth Estate, but he just can't take it down from GR.

KC | 4897 comments Read Lou Harper's Academic Pursuits, which takes a while to pick up, but it's totally worth it after that. Also, it's not really a romance, though there is some eventually. It's more about the MC's journey. Lighthearted and also sweet and heartfelt at times. I really enjoy Lou's writing style, and the subtle flashes of humor and insight and observation.

I also started His Quiet Agent, which is turning out to be a lovely surprise.

Gone back to reading One Hundred and Four Horses. It's hard to read about the destruction of an entire country in the name of greed and power, never mind reading about farmers abandoning pets, horses, and livestock to escape, and the killing of such animals to save them from starvation, or just because it's fun. This is definitely not a book I want to draw out. Been reading all morning and I'll keep reading until it's done. I must know how it ends!
