This past week I read James Lear's The Secret Tunnel. I find his books very entertaining, over the top, yet so lovable and funny, and the mysteries are very good. I really like his Mitch character. The books in this series i'd classify as 'cosy'. His newest novel - The Hardest Thing was excellent, but darker.

I also read Ginn's Feral Machines from Tangle, such a lovely story!

And then i felt in the mood for something like The Irregulars, and the first story in Hell Cop fitted that perfectly.

Hansen's "The man everybody was afraid of" is next, i just started it, but i already feel like i missed Dave.

right now i am kind of focusing your book (The Hell You Say) but am also reading(Coffee & Doughnuts by Elle Parker) just to lighten my mood because i found myself angry with Jake Riordan :( euh anyway i don't know if am doing it right (the whole participation in the conversation! ; What else are you reading! like i said am new to the whole concept so if anybody have a suggestion for me , i'll be grateful =)

I've been striking out in the reading game. So far, two books for which I had high hopes -- and (which some people allege to be fiction rather than a memoir) -- have bored the crap out of me.

I even felt disgruntled when I finished A Strong and Sudden Thaw, a book I initially thought would be a ten-star read. I intensely disliked the final action scene, and ended up convinced the novel should've been written as a stand-alone. (As much as I'd like answers to the many questions I was left with, the sequel holds no appeal for me whatsoever. I can't take any more separation and suffering!)

I just finished The Bellingham Mysteries by Nicole Kimberling and I loved them. I'm seriously anticipating PsyCop 7 and Haunted Heart. I just started Dead in L.A. By Lou Harper.

I loooooved Dead in L.A. The sequel Dead in the Desert is coming out next month. (Can. Not. Wait!)

The Bellingham Mysteries are sooooooooo good and so much FUN. I totally love Peter's inner-reporter writings that he pens in his head as he goes through the mysteries. He's too funny.

I'm with you--I'm eagerly waiting for both Psycop 7 and the Haunted Heart. (I know I could have followed on Wattpad, but I was saving up. I love reading things in one go.) :)

I haven't read Nicole Kimberling's The Bellingham Mysteries yet, but they are definitely next in line waiting on my Kindle with Lou Harper's Last Stop. And like you said PsyCop #7 Spook Squad is going to be released SO SOON! I can't wait to revisit Vic and Jacob. :-) What a treat the end of the August will be with The Haunted Heart: Winter coming out, too. :-) And I'm currently reading Locomotives in Winter by Luke Hartwell and really liking his unique style.

And you pay 20 dollars instead of 15 the author signs it and adds a hand-made illustration (available now only for the second book).

I started reading and couldn't stop... so i ordered the books, might as well have them, something to look forward to :-) better than reading on the pc, and better for taking in the details. I really like the drawings, especially the facial expressions and the "sightseeing". And the story, of course! :-) They have a postcard of a mountain view, which i really like too.

The Rifter did quite a bit of lingering with me, i felt the withdrawal... and then i found the illustrated version which helped ease that a bit just because it's so funny :-)

Handmaid's Tale, that's a tough book..., very good, but so scary/depressing.

Have you seen Astrid Amara's Illustrated Rifter Cliff Notes? Those are fantastic! :-)

This may or may not be to people's tastes, but I was pretty struck by A Fucked Up Life In Books. It's basically someone telling extremely odd snippets from her life, each one linked to what she was reading at the time. It's incredibly sweary (the author name should give you an idea of how sweary it is) and quite disturbing and rather sad, but also very funny and compelling. If you like books and weirdness and don't mind astonishing swear levels.

KC and Johanna, thanks for the link to Astrid's very funny illustrations. I think the Rifter series (along with the Brandstetter books) is going to be my autumn read. I've had the ebooks from when the series was first completed (or a bit before by subscription), and bought the first two print books. There are a couple of page heading designs and maps, but I'm not seeing illustrations. Awhile back, I read the first two books, then unwittingly stumbled upon the worst kind of spoiler (view spoiler)[the death of a main character (hide spoiler)] in a m/m poll and set them aside. Now they've become a sort of hoarded reward for some special occasion or change in weather. ;-)

Hi Khaoula,
you can go to the group homepage. On the top, next to the group logo you find "You are a member. Edit" Click on the "Edit"-part. Scroll down to the bottom of the next page. There you'll find "edit group discussion updates". Click on that. You get to a page where you can decide for all topics if you want to get an e-mail, a notification on GR only or no notification at all.
You're other option is to scroll to the end of the topic you're in. There you'll find (in very light grey) something along the lines "You are following this discussion". Click on "edit" and choose if you want to receive e-mail, notification, nothing at all. This works for each topic seperately.
I hope this helps you to get news on time. ;-) If you have questions just pm me. :)

I read Harper Fox's A Midwinter Prince. It was one of those wonderful reads which transported me to another place. Even though it was a contemporary story, it had a lot of fairy tale and historical elements to it, and the language, as always with Harper, was beautiful.

So many novels should be written as standalones. It's tiresome how many authors simply do not understand that a handful of compliments about a story does NOT mean the story should be stretched beyond its natural span.

This spoiler wasn't from a discussion. It was in a reader poll for something like "saddest scenes." I guess the wording of the nominations wasn't edited and this one was too specific. I just stumbled upon it while voting on a long list of categories. : (
