What Are you Reading?
I suppose the five botanical books I bought during Univ. of Chicago Press's sale are my Christmas gift to myself. I bought them with gifting in mind, then liked them too much. So maybe re-gifting later...
A Shakespearean Botanical
Vegetables (Vegetables: A Biography)
Culinary Herbs and Spices of the World
Remarkable Plants That Shape Our World
The Book of Leaves: A Leaf-by-Leaf Guide to Six Hundred of the World's Great Trees
And I bought a copy of Walden (illustrated Thoreau bicentennial edition) when I went for coffee/shopping with my daughters at our local with their gift cards.

There's a local book club reading Death Trick for their February read. I was so excited when a patron came in asking for the book and then terribly bummed when I had to tell him we didn't have a copy he could borrow. He's off to B&N now to see if he can order it there. At least I was able to tell him it's a fantastic book!

Wouldn’t it be lovely to have the set in print? The two books together would look so pretty. :-)

Awww. Thank you both, Calathea and Sabine, for your very kind words. I feel so lucky Josh decided to use the snow globe painting for this one.

I have the corrected file and I just have to re-upload now that the book has gone live.

Do you meant to put both in one volume? Or why would you want to change the names?

Reading Celeste Ng's Everything I Never Told You for my library book group discussion next week.
It's good. Definitely not something I'd read on my own, but still enjoyable.

Oh wow. I just finished reading Robert Bentley's Here There Be Dragons — one of the most gripping and interesting books I've read lately! It took me about 40 pages to really get into the story... and after that I was almost unable to put the book down. I started this book with no expectations — I didn't even know what it was really about. I only knew that it was mentioned in Fatal Shadows and that at least Antonella, Karen and Jordan had enjoyed reading it.
I have to say: this author's voice strangely sneaked into my heart. That's how it felt! The bigger the story grew, expanded — also in emotional level — the more I fell in love with his voice and his characters and the whole book. It was not a romance precisely, not at least the way we usually think about it, but there was a love story alright. With an ending I'm satisfied with.
So, if you happen to find this one — I think you should buy it. It's a fascinating combination of a cold war thriller and lyrical, beautiful, sensual writing. Five stars from me! (And no, there weren't dragons in it! LOL.)
Also — did any of you manage to find anything else from Robert Bentley? I remember that there weren't another book exactly, but maybe an literary journal of sorts. Karen, did you ever find it (buy it)? I found your old post about it:
Karen wrote, Aug 04, 2016:
"I ordered from Bolerium Books (via Amazon) and just found that Bentley was included in this literary journal:
Gay literature; a literary journal. winter 1975, number one
Daniel Curzon, Fresno. 1975, 56p., some photos, wraps.
With contributions from Daniel Curzon, Allen Young, Robert Bentley, Robert Hopkins and others.
Cat.No: 47179
Price: $25.00
So perhaps there was something else published, but no way to know unless I order this. It could be an excerpt, an essay, an interview, a poem, etc."

Sounds good. I really liked her time-travel books. I'm also considering her short story with the dog-shifter. Not sure about that one..., but Private Truths I will try soon. The sample is already waiting. :-)

I'm very glad to hear that, sounds lovely and intriguing. :-) Thank you for sharing impressions. My copy of the book is currently...in Tucson. I ordered it from Bolerium Books (they're very reliable and pack the books so carefully, i love that). Anyway, should be here soon!

I'm glad that you too loved it!
It was so good and not even a bit ''old'', except the obvious cold war aspects.
I'm curious to know if you or someone else finds out something about the author. I had missed Karen's note. When I read the book I tried to find out something via the internet and felt a bit stalkerish ;-).
I haven't done much research into Robert Bentley, myself, but what little I did, well, he seems like a ghost with this one book left behind to remind us he was here... You know?
My copy didn't come with a dust jacket, but I recall someone said it mentioned another book by him, I think. I don't remember the details though.
