I was checking yesterday to see if she has other books that are not too dark. I only read The Two Gentlemen of Altona so far, besides the Adulting 101.

I haven't actually read that many of her books, but what I have read I've mostly all loved. The Two Gentlemen of Altona was great. Dark Space is excellent sci-fi. One Perfect Night, an Australian-set World War II short story, is absolutely beautiful and is *so* well done. The Prescott College books with JA Rock are enjoyable and light. Her dark BDSM stories don't really appeal to me, but, fortunately for me, she's written lots of different sorts of things. I have several other things by her on the old Kindle that I haven't read yet. Someday I will read all of the books on my Kindle. It's a long goal. :)
I've read Alexis Hall's
and I'm quite unhappy with it, probably also because I was anticipating the new book of an author I really love. It should have come with a warning: «gamers only».
I know that Susan, Alison and Calathea liked it. I didn't.
There was a relationship hidden in boring gaming stuff, which one could tiresomely follow with the extended glossary. The development of the relationship was good.
I think it can be a hard story to get into unless you understand gaming. It certainly wasn't a favourite one for me.

It's a book for grown-ups. I'll just put that out there. If you're into cotton candy rainbows and fluffy unicorn type romance, this ain't the book for you. But if you like romance that starts from the premise that people are complex and multi-faceted and flawed, but still deserve their happy ending...then give it a whirl. Especially if you love realistic characters and beautiful writing.
Have I gushed enough? :-D
But I have a vested interest here because I've been a huge, huge fan of Dal's since the beginning. I truly love her work.

Interesting. Always the challenge as a writer. You want to keep trying new things, new takes on old tropes. Sometimes the pleasure is simply in pushing yourself to try something a bit different, new.
That's how it was for me with Blood Red Butterfly. Very much a book for fans of yaoi and manga. Not a huge success with the regular M/M reader--although over the years its sales evened out (largely because I write so slowly now readers have gone back and bought the books they originally passed over). :-D

was especially good for fans of yaoi and manga, but also the majority of other people found it enjoyable.

Ame wrote: "I think it'll be my Christmas read this year. I LOVE him. Capital letters :)"Me too. But I confess I've never been to a concert. Somehow I don't feel anymore like big concerts, not even for Bruce. A friend of mine goes regularly.

the Bruce Springsteen's biography."Cool. Enjoy! He is a favourite of mine too. He's doing a few shows here in NZ next year and I would love to go but it costs so much and, like you, giant stadium shows don't excite me so much anymore.
I read Lisa Henry's Adulting 101 over the weekend, and like the rest of you, I really enjoyed it. Funny and moving. Much laughter and some tears too. :)I also finished a mostly really great charity anthology--How We Began. Standout stories by Alexis Hall and Vanessa North, and the rest were mostly enjoyable.

What an interesting list. Quite a few of those books would also be on a "most popular and best-selling books of 2015" list. Some of the reasons are kind of funny--did someone really want to ban Fifty Shades of Grey for being "poorly written"?
Hope you enjoy Two Boys Kissing. I loved it. It's intense and unconventional.
Over the weekend I finished The Weight of It All by N. R. Walker, an author I really like. The main character was an overweight man who decided to make changes in his life after his partner breaks up with and meets a delicious specimen of personal coach. Predictable for sure but oh so sweet and lovely. And funny. It was actually perfect read before rereading the intense For Real.

I refrained to comment on the presence of Fifty Shades of Grey in the list.
Two Boys Kissing is epic!

David Levithan's style is definitely not for everyone, it's true.

But are you sure that it is a romance? I see people categorising it under: gay fiction, thriller, mystery, murder-mystery, historical, but no romance.

Well, I'm thinking of initial sales. Initially it did not appeal to a lot of my readers. But as they ran out of other things to read, they ended up giving it a try. And mostly I think they were pleasantly surprised. :-)

I read the first book years ago and thought it was refreshingly...zesty. Nobody in this genre was doing space opera at the time and she really went for it. It was fun and original -- original in that it tackled so many mainstream tropes and turned them on their head. :-D

lol. I would ban it for being poorly written if I could. Yup. I said it. I enjoy reading BDSM. But only when it's done right. :-) That said, who am I to keep books from people who would enjoy them? So long as they know what they're getting into.
