Or paying someone to continue the series or write new books in the dead author's name ...

I'm pining for the next Kit & JX book. ;-D
I actually came across a Captive Prince fanfic rec post yesterday on tumblr so I might go down that rabbit hole when I finish Kings Rising. I've already downloaded a few that were tempting me.

Indeed. I have finished series which ended oh-so-satisfyingly, only to feel bereft that I had essentially kicked myself out of their world.
And, yes, if only there was something coming our way soon...
I hate that feeling of a favorite series being done. I think that's part of the reason for my extreme reaction to the end of the Brandstetter series. Aside from the way the series ends as well, because clearly that played a huge part in my reaction.
Right now, I'm stuck at work, and wishing I could finish Two Boys Kissing! I'll finish it when I get home for sure. But I'm reaching this climax and it's driving me nuts that I have to cover the desk and not read in the middle of a snow storm with so few patrons it's kinda pathetic.

Also, I agree w/Valerie - I need a Kit fix!!!

I'll catch this on audio, I think. Though I'm still not sure how someone with Selective Mutism is able to hold a job that requires so much communication. Hobbs makes for an interesting character for sure. But there I go, trying to make this more realistic than it will ever be. lol.

These are the kind of books you just have to go with the flow and not look to closely on anything, really. :)

From there I moved onto finishing:

"A Boy and His Dragon, I really loved this book also.

There wasn't any explanation in establishing the relationship between Nick and Kelly, or a prelude as to how Kelly got shot or what the heck a sidewinder was, so I felt like I was fumbling in the beginning of the story trying to understand it. All in all it was a good book.
I'd be interested if anyone else felt this with the book or did I really miss the beginning book of Nick and Kelly.
I'll be starting her next book

You know Trioseven7, I looked up the Cut & Run series and it seemed to be about Ty and Zane, but, I too was wondering if I need to read that series in order to understand her new series I'm reading.
Even this second book started talking about Nick recovering from surgery and off from desk duty which through me another "did I miss another book" feeling.
The first book left off with him heading back on active duty and the next book he's had some kind of surgery he had just recovered from.
I really do like her writing and I love Kelly and Nick, but dang I wish she had the insight to clue her readers in on the huge switch. This one also could have had some kind of intro or prelude before chapter 1 hit me in the middle of nowhere.
I'd be interested to know if anyone else who has read these two books before Cut & Run if they had a similar experience.
Let me know what you decide Trioseven7.

That would be great if you could do that. Let me know if you start Shock & Awe, I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

I don't think you missed anything, Darlene. I felt the same way as you did when I read the first of the new series. It's just not that good of a book and has no plot. I didn't read any further. I'd had enough with this author. I never finished the Cut and Run series either.

From there I moved onto finishing:

The last book I have read from the Cut & Run Series was Touch & Geaux. In this book Kelly got shot, so I think, that was you miss, is told in the last Cut & Run books.

Thanks Susinok for letting me know that you found the same reaction to the book as I did. Makes me feel better that someone else felt the plot was missing too.

Sabine, have you read the whole Cut & Run series? Is it only in the last book that Kelly and Nick are mentioned? And is there some sort of action happening to show a possible relationship could happen between them?
I guess maybe I'll at least get that last vol in the Cut & Run series and see if it helps me to bring it all together. Have you read her Books Shocked & Awe and Cross & Crown? Just interested in what you think.
What's strange is on the reviews provided on amazon no one mentions what I experienced.

I think I read somewhere that the author sees all her books as happening in one big universe, so they overlap a bit. I can't remember if that was in a review or just from talking with one of my friends, but I ran into the same problem when characters from Warrior's Cross showed up in the Cut and Run series. I was like, "Who are these people?" That was the point where I stopped reading them, because I was really only interested in Ty and Zane and I didn't want to feel obligated to read a bunch of other series as well to enjoy them.

We discover Kelly and Nick in Divide & Conquer (#4). But any indications of an eventual relationship start with Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run #7) when readers started shipping them. Hence the Sidewinder series.

Touch & Geaux was the last book I have read in the Cut & Run series. That's book no. 7. I think there are two more.
In Divide & Conquer ( book no. 4) we learn, that Nick has wanted Ty for a long time, so we know he likes men, that was something we didn't know before and Ty didn't know it either :-) . I liked the first five and then it was to much for me. I have read the next two, but they lost their appeal for me. The character development couldn't convince me anymore. If I have unterstand it right, the storyline of Shock & Awe and Cross & Crown are set between Touch & Geaux and Ball & Chain. But I am not sure. I found this, perhaps it helps.

That must have gotten me in the mood for historicals because now I've moved on to Lessons in Trust, continuing the Orlando and Jonty mystery series by Charlie Cochrane.

You don't like his Zane? He is my favorite voice. The new narrator that starts with Book 6 does a decent job, but I miss Sean Crisden. I just finished Ball & Chain and I'm about to jump into Crash & Burn (which I loved).

I read the Moonspinners (and saw the movie) when I was a kid.
I remember really liking it. :-)"
I love Mary Stewart's romantic suspenses, partly because they are so evocative of the places in which they're set -- and the time. Hope you enjoy The Moonshiners, KC. Crete is one of my favourite places, although it has changed quite bit since MS was there in the 1950s/60s.

She really makes the place come alive. And i'm enjoying the dialogue and the characters and the mystery/suspense. :-)
I just started Mary Stewart's The Wicked Day last night. So far it's good! I do love her writing, though I haven't read beyond The Crystal Cave series yet.

This one is my favorite of the series. Although I did stop reading the series somewhere around books #5 or #6.

I agree. I think you miss out if you don't read the Cut and Run series first. I have 3 books to read from that series then I shall move onto the Sidewinder series.

Though, I can't say I agree with the way the author decided to set these books up, because 1st when anyone reads the book's back cover may just want to read that one book. Then when you start to read it you're standing in the middle of bewilderment, at least that would be my guess.
And secondly, I believe she gives her readers a disservice by not informing them of past events from the previous book to clue you into the characters. At least that's the way I felt about her plot writing.
The tumbler page you gave me Viv really helped a lot to understand the flow of the books, thanks for sharing that. Other's should check it out too, because at the end whoever wrote it mentioned which odd book to read before the next in the series.
I don't do the audios, I like a book in my hand so it can get expensive to invest in the whole series. I have had a kindle for the past two years and this is the first year I've actually used it. That's because I am away from my home where all my books are and could bring only so many with me. I'll look on amazon and see if she has the Cut & Run series in a set which may be less expensive then buying each individual book.
Thanks again everyone and if you have more comments about it I'd love to hear them.

Ah, Jordan, every time you mention the Crystal Cave series, I look to my left to see the four (hardcover!) books sitting there on my bookshelves. I have taken those books with me through several moves and many years--but I don't think I've re-read them in 30 years.
I keep thinking I should add the series to my giant TBR pile. But I bought a newer copy of The Moonspinners over a year ago, and really it should come first! After all, Moonspinners is my alltime favorite Mary Stewart book. I have read it 12-15 times over the years, though probably not in the last 20 years or so. Fanfiction took over my life for many years there. LOL
My icon is certainly apropriate--So many books (so little time)
Marge, the first three I own are first edition hardcovers too! The fourth is an old mass market paperback, which I acquired for free so I'm not complaining. :-)
I can see myself wanting to reread these again sometime. Funny thing, I was watching the first episode of The Librarians last night which tells the story of Arthur, and my immediate reaction was, That's not how the story goes! Well, not according to Mary Stewart. But she did such a great job making her books seem so realistic (no dancing dishes here!) that it's almost believable as a true story.

Darlene, I've found that ebooks are waaaay cheaper than print books, so you may find that you don't need a compilation of multiple books in one. :-) Happy shopping!

I must admit I don't really understand what an ebook is. Orthe difference between ebook vs kindle. :-(

You read ebooks on your Kindle, but not all ebooks are Kindle compatible. ebooks can be in different formats. There are ebooks for Kindle, ebooks for B&N Nook, iTunes, etc. If you buy from Amazon, they should all be readable on your Kindle.

An ebook is just a computer book file you can read on an electronic device-- so a pdf, text file, doc file, epub are all ebooks. You can read them on computers, laptops, tablets, phones, ebook readers. Kindle format is just Amazon's proprietary version of an ebook. It can only be read on a kindle or kindle for pc unless you do some finagling.

Thanks Kirsten for enlightening me. Question, if I want to purchase an ebook how do I have it delivered to my laptop? Evidently, I can not have it sent to my Kindle.

Ah, this is where it gets complicated. Does the book have DRM? (That's digital rights management, aka: copy protection.) Some books do and some don't, depending on the publisher and where you buy them. If you have a link to the book, I can take a look and let you know. Also what format do you want? Most computers can read pdfs pretty easily, but they aren't very good for reading on other devices.

Oh, but you can. However it's easier to explain how to if you have specific questions. I prefer to read on my Kindle than on my phone or ipad because of the backlight. I'm prone to headaches and migraines so the Kindle works best for me and I think I know how to modify most books to mobi format for Kindle

If you purchase directly from publishers you'll be able to download different formats.
On your computer ebooks purchased in .pdf format can be read with Adobe Acrobat Reader. And I know that Adobe Digital Editions can read .epub format. There are probably others (I only use Kindle and Kindle Cloud Reader).

But sometimes it is a kind of grieveing when it has come out and been read and then, it's over, you have read it and there is no longer that sweet anticipation. (Until a new book by a favourite is being advertised as coming soon!)
