What Are you Reading?

It is safer perhaps, but also more boring. It's when I cross the barriers, or even better, tear them down, I learn new things about the world and about myself.

I'm so glad you liked it! Her new one Save of the Game is out today and it is even better than the first one.

The Backup Boyfriend was also good - way better than I thought it would be. There was actually a really great message there about labels and how even alternative labels are still labels, Very well done and great characters.

I understand when you're a little kid growing up in a very white town how encountering your first minority race or something would be a little jarring, but once you're an adult, there really is no excuse.
That said, I admit I'm one who always opens my big fat mouth and sticks my foot in it and then realizes later what I said and how it was interpreted. Oiy.

This was always my approach, too. I'd take a walk through the office to talk to whoever I needed something from, rather than just emailing. I knew almost everyone in a big organisation, and they appreciated that one of the "bosses" talked to them. It's also the best way for getting a feeling about morale in different departments, and who is pulling their weight and who is not, etc..
Well done on calling people out on racist remarks, too. I never let anyone get away with racist or sexist remarks. I find it odd that many women think it's OK to say sexist things about men, when they would be up in arms if the positions were reversed.

I have decided that there are some things I just don't need to see for myself, and dino porn is one of them!

Jordan, there is a Mary Stewart group on Goodreads, and they've done buddy reads of the Arthurian series in the past so you could see what other people thought and add your own views. I'm a member of the group because I love her romantic suspense novels, but I've never read the Arthurian books.

Oh cool! I'll have to check it out. I'm really enjoying these so far. Though the last one has a different narrator and since I liked Merlin as the narrator so far I'm a little nervous about starting book four soon.

And not like you need to add another series to your reading list, but I loved Bernard Cornwell's Arthurian trilogy when I read it. It starts with The Winter King.

Good to hear. I'm on to that one next. I'm midway through Merrow's Out! tonight. Eclectic reading this weekend — finished reading Rough Road and Him.

I'm starting Eyes Only for Me by Andrew Grey next. I love his books.

J.R. Ward, "The Beast", will be in audio book format mid April. :) I love the series. There were a couple of books which I did not find as good, but that is to be expected I guess. Anyway... I am a fan.

I bought the A Man of Some Repute audiobook recently. Liked the sample, but haven't listened yet. Nice to have the work recommended. Sad about the author.

Right? Or so you would think. Just treat everyone as you would wish to be treated. And yes, even that is bound to offend some, but that's pretty much the best any of us without psychic powers can do.
Just treat people with respect and kindness.

Ha. Same. I have a writer's curiosity--and I also like people and find humans very intriguing. So sometimes I question and speculate and this does not always go over well.

This is what's so fascinating about books and reading. How smart people can passionately disagree over the merits of the very same book to the extent that an onlooker would swear they were talking about two different books. :-)

I'm midway through Amy Rae Durreson's A Frost of Cares now and loving it. I also read In Heaven and Earth and Gaudete, thought both were wonderful, and I'm interested to see that her storytelling holds up very well in a longer book. She seems to write characters that no one else thinks of, or at least thinks of in exactly that way, with that much attention to detail and care. They're very "heart-full" stories.

OMG!! *drops every book I'm reading and start looking for the Captive Prince*

It's the best of the trilogy. I would have given it more than 5 stars.

Thank you for bringing these up Karen, Alison, Varecia and... Antonella? Did I forget someone? Amy Rae Durreson is a new-to-me author, but I'm definitely going to try her books because you guys are recommending them. :-)

So that hundreds of children's authors and soft-toy makers and TV programme makers can earn money, of course! You might think it odd that such disparate groups would conspire together, but that's the force of capitalism at work...
Edited: I now see that Susinok thinks much the same. That proves there's a conspiracy!!

I think it's very underrated by the general m/m audience, but these are very solid and well-written mysteries. "
I agree!

It is a hilarious comic strip about a group of gay men who live in a B & B. The artist publishes a regular comic strip and then also prints them in volumes. So far I think there are four volumes and I have them all. They are just so funny but the great thing is that he has them all up on line as well.

It is silly but it is the same thing that happens with race, sexuality, age, disability, wealth etc etc Some people prefer to stay behind their fences, relating to people who are 'just like me' instead of tearing the barriers down to encounter other people
