I read Marlowe's Ghost by Sarah Black. That's the last of her backlist. :( Now I have to wait. The book had me looking up a 19th century Greek poet. I'll have to find something to put in the poetry thread.

Now I'm re-reading Acrobat by Mary Calmes. Love this book.

I just finished Miss Pym Disposes and i thought it was really good overall, (view spoiler)[ not what i expected; while reading i kept expecting things and they didn't materialize, like being sure the plot will take a certain direction but then going somewhere else; same for the characters; and the ending gave me chills... There were things that made me laugh, it does have a nice sense of humor, but overall there's this melancholy of sorts. But i did like writing-wise how it starts frivolously and it gets darker until that shocking scene at the end. (hide spoiler)]

I agree that this should be read next! It will cheer you up after Piss Pym. I'm with Josh - it's one of my all-time favourites. And then I think you should read The Franchise Affair.

Oh yeah, I liked that one too! I'd have liked it even better if I'd gotten to know a bit more about the time in between, to really understand the developments in these guys and in their lives. That would have probably busted the short story construct, though...

It still was a very nice, enjoyable read!

The The Gravedigger's Brawl is on my list, too, so I'm curious how you like it!

I read CUTYS right after Fair Game and while they're not the same, not nearly, they have similar parts, enough for me to lump them together sorta. But I bet you've already read CUTYS, and so I can't think of anything else that's similar.

As forThe Administration, I'm slowly working my way through that series, including all the shorts. That's the majority of unread ebooks I need to work through before I canbuy more!

I'm just finishing up A Troubled Range by Andrew Grey and I'm really enjoying it! So much better than the first in the series. There are some editing things that bug me, but not nearly as much as some of his other books.

I'm also working my way through The Dead Town by Dean Koontz, which is the fifth and final book of his Frankenstein series. These books come highly recommended if you liked the original Frankenstein by Shelly. He stays true to her work, but sets it in modern times and gives the monster a name and a better life. Oh yeah, and Frankenstein is still around creating monsters too. Love this series!!!

I'm also hoping to start Golden Witchbreed by Mary Gentle. I've been wanting to read this but haven't had the time and as the library is weeding the fiction, I figured this would get pulled and I had to do something! This is sci-fi with alien children who don't have a gender until puberty when their body up and decides what it will grow into. Sounds interesting, and apparently, the most accepted gender neutral pronouns in the English language come from these books, so I'm reading it to see how that works too.

Ha, I'm also trying to squeeze in a Mercedes Lackey book by the end of the week. Next month Starts my 14 book summer reading list, which I still haven't blogged about. Gah. Well, I have a 2013summer shelf if anyone cares to know what I'm reading June through August.

I love Mercedes Lackey. My absolute favorite is The Fire Rose, with its AU 1900s setting. Rose is a fabulous character & the Beauty & the Beast framework is just wonderful.

I finished reading which is a beautiful romance story which made me remember my summers in the garden as a child. Then I read and by Michael Thomas Ford. It was the first time I had read books by this author and I enjoyed both of them. They were both romantic but not really like the general m/m HEA books that i normally read, these felt more mature (for want of a better way of describing it). Looking for It was interesting because it focused on the love and lives of a group of gay men instead of having two main characters.

I am now reading books 3 - 5 of the Josh's Adrien English series. I love this series and have had these books in my to read pile for more than a year, but it never felt like the right time to read them. We have a public holiday on Monday so I have 3 days to immerse myself and complete this series. Reading bliss :)

So far I've read The Last Herald Mage which I fell in love with. I wish I'd been given a chance to read it as a kid. My reading would have been changed forever, if I had.

For last summer's reading list I read the first of her Arrow's Flight books and still haven't gotten to the second. I thought about reading it for this summer's list, but I wanted some variety in my list. I'm already including another Redwall book again, but those are standalone books, so it's ok to recommend one of them. Or at least a little easier.

So, in short, I'm trying to get the second book in the trilogy done now and maybe that will spur me to read the last book in September.

Exactly. That would not be a short story.

Plus, for me, I'm only in it for the relationship between Will and Rob, so pages spent in their time away from each other would have been skimming time for me.

I'm not too far into Gravedigger's Brawl. I went to bed at 8:00 last night. I tried swimming late afternoon and the weather (and water) was too cold. I couldn't get warm afterwards!

Saw The Hallowed Ones mentioned on my Updates page by Ami and ended up Kindling it. (YA, paranormal, dystopian horror, Amish -- how could I resist? :)) The book's refreshingly well-written and turning out to be quite a compelling read.

Just re-read CUTYS before that, and it's a hard act to follow!

My coworker read The Hallowed Ones and pronounced it really good. Our teen book group will be reading it in September since we've already picked our summer reads and THEN the extra copies we'd ordered came in the other day.

I've not read Golden Witchbreed, but I have read quite a few of her White Crow stories and enjoyed them. Although I lent Rats And Gargoyles to my ex and he hated it - he preferred his fantasy novels to be a little more traditional! So not to everyone's tastes.
I must try to read the other books I've got by her; they're always interesting.

Unfortunately, the author lets the tension slacken in the middle. That's the touchy thing about writing any kind of thriller. The menace, whatever it is, can't be allowed to fade too far into the background for too long.

I really don't need prolonged looks at Amish life or a retelling of a Greek myth in the middle of a vampire apocalypse. :)

I read Dirty Kiss this week, and I have mixed feelings. When it had my attention it was really good. But I found my attention wandering a lot. I liked the relationship stuff between Cole and Jae-Min, but I skimmed all the sex scenes. I liked the Korean cultural stuff, and the club, and the variety of characters. But I hate when the murderer ends up being a character who is hardly heard from until the reveal. And it left me wondering why Cole was even hired in the first place. The writing was definitely above average, but overall I didn't enjoy it as much as everyone else seems to.

That was kind of my response to it. I adore Rhys and I loved so many parts of the book. The Korean culture stuff was so fresh and so enjoyable, as was her love for the mystery and PI genre.

But dear GOD she deserved an editor. A content editor. It goes without saying everyone at Dreamspinner needs a copyeditor, but Rhys shows such talent, such promise. She needs to work with a real live content editor who would push her to go beyond that first cliché and dig deep. Because the depth and the inventiveness is there.
