Looking forward to that. I've visited Bellingham all of three times during various trips to see our older daughter. Now she's finishing up her M.A. (marine biology) at WWU in Bellingham (but her home base is still on the Olympic Peninsula). I especially enjoy Pacific NW stories, and love laughing through Nicole's Bellingham stories.

Now that I think about it, I believe I have a collection of these in paperback that I got while I was in Seattle. So I guess it's safe to say I'll read them at some point. :-)

Oh, and I also read my first Christmas story: Unwrapping Hank

This is very unlike me. I usually don't even like to think Christmas is coming until December but that story had me smiling like a goof :)

When I drove past Bellingham on my way up to Vancouver I waved over to Nichole, Ginn, and Astrid. Some serious talent living up there in Bellingham.

House update: The bathroom is PAINTED!!! Tomorrow we'll look for light spots and "holidays" we call them. Spots that we missed. Then we'll take down the tape, pull up the tarps, empty the bedroom and vacuum.

When I got home I got a surge of engergy and dug up some of the plants I wanted to take with me. I found my snowdrop bulbs, dug up my two remaining hostas, my liriope, a clematis The President, which is dark purple, all my Rosa Mundi remainders, and two Salvia greggii. I also pried my stepping stones out of the ground. I'll take more later. Those things are expensive!

So tomorrow I'll plant all this batch. I'll be taking more, but this is a good start.

The house with it's first coat of white paint from the painter looks amazing. The great room looks even larger than before and it's so much more cheerful and gorgeous. I'll upload my phone pics to my Flickr account and link it here so you can see.

Did you read House of Stone? It was the first book I read by him. It's really good. Lighter and more fun than the Broken Mirror series, which I loved, but the second (or was it the first?) book broke my heart, cried a lot with that one, so now i'm wary of the series, even though the third book was less tragic. He writes really well..."

Haven't read House of Stone yet (or Last Paladin), but I will for sure. Yeah, the second book, Lightning Rod, is definitely a little rough! Though all the books have made me cry a bit! At least there's lots of laughing too! KC, the fourth book, Breaking Ties, carries on in much the same way as the third (and with the alternating POVs) and that was when I started getting way too excited because there's so much being set up. Big things are hinted at! I have so many theories and I can't wait to see what happens! But if you're wary that's fair enough. :)

That sounds intriguing! :-) I downloaded a sample. I hope I remember what happened in book 3, it's been a while.
I found The Last Paladin quite disappointing, especially after just having read House of Stone. It's as if the writer was just playing with a little fantasy in that one and then got on with writing awesome the stuff.

So I read Between Sinners and Saints

It's such a beautiful love story. With the emphasize on love. I mean, if you really want to read a story about unconditional love and a relationships that grows slowly from friendship to love, this is your book. And what surprised me the most when I first read it was that the faith in this book didn't bother me at all. I am a nonbeliever but I do respect other have faith and as long as they respect other religions and non religions I have no problem with that. And I felt that they way deeply religious mormons (which religion I have no knowledge of) was handle well and respectfully.

That is what I really like about Goodreads. After I read a really good book, I come here and read what others have said in their reviews. I mostly read along, smiling and nodding. It's kind of like discussing the book with a friend and enjoying it all over again. And if a reviewer is a jerk, I just skip over their review and go to another pleasant one.

We need something like that for our favorite TV shows. Oh wait, we USED to have that very thing in livejournal, back in the day. :-)

Thanks for the mentions of Stygian and Lead Me Into Darkness: Five Halloween Tales of Paranormal Romance, perfect late October/early November reads. Santino Hassell's writing was new to me and I liked how he jumbled vampires and rockers into a gritty, and rather spooky story of young guys trying to find "home" and love. Santino's follow-up story in Lead Me Into Darkness is also quite good. These are darker romances. Even HFN is fragile.

J.C. Lillis's "Memory Hill" (also in LMID) is a gem. Beautifully crafted, and it made me cry.

It's not a romance, more a coming of age story with a little unusual set up, following three young boys during their adolescent years and merging their stories at a point. It is understated, beautifully written and altoghether a wonderful little book.

Read Winter Wonderland and really enjoyed it. I loved the first two in the series (Let It Snow and Sleigh Ride), but this is the best one, imo (I recommend reading them in order though, because of the recurring characters).

I really did enjoy LC Chase's A Fortunate Blizzard. I think you will ultimately enjoy it, but you might skip it for now. It has angst.
