Ah! You need the services of my mother! If only we had a more reliable means of transportation. :-D
Er, for the soup. I will keep my mom.

Thanks for offering your mom... your mom's chicken soup I mean. :-)
One would think they had invented the transporter from Star Trek by now. ;-)
The Paper Magician is next on my list!
For Coffee Cake... One word: unrealistic. The plot is on rinse and repeat times four right now and I'm starting to skim it. I really appreciate the ace character, but that's about it. Sometimes a book like this just does everything for me in all its sticky sweet unrealisticness, but I guess I'm not in the mood. I'm looking forward to reading something else, and really enjoying relistening to A Dangerous Thing.

I hope you feel better soon guys! Wish I had something good to offer up, but I'm not much of a cook, and am glad I'm on vacation so I don't have to this week!
Yes, I need to read through Lou's books too. I've read several and enjoyed them very much, but there's a bunch I haven't gotten too yet.
Skimmed the rest of Coffee Cake. Meh. Not nearly as good as I'd hoped. I rated it 3 stars, mostly for the ace character. :-(

Enjoy The Paper Magician. I did. :-)
Tummy flip-flopping today and hovering near the throne room. Eating chicken noodle soup and praying that it'll stay down.Listening to Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series and reading CHARMED & DANGEROUS.

Oh dear. I hope you feel better soon, Judy.
I've long been meaning to read some Nalini Singh, as she's one of NZ's big deal authors. I am always keen to support my writerly countryfolk.

I have just finished listening to 18% Gray by Anne Tenino, narrated by Paul Morey. He is really very good. When I first read the story, I had trouble getting into it but listening to Paul was a pleasure. It is actually a real good story and I am happy that I gave it another shot. I hope that the second book in the series will be audited as well. Paul Morey has narrated a lot of good books. You should check him out at audible. It sounds like an ad LOL.
Yeah, Paul Morey is really good. However it took me awhile to disconnect him from Jory because he WAS Jory :)
Ame wrote: "Yeah, Paul Morey is really good. However it took me awhile to disconnect him from Jory because he WAS Jory :)"I know what you mean LOL. After listening to the whole series in one go, it was strange to have the voices as different characters.
I have just finished Lake on the Mountain: A Dan Sharp Mystery by Jeffrey Round and it was very good. It won the LAMDA for gay mystery in 2013 and it is the first in an ongoing series. I have 3 more books to read in the series and I hope the others are as good as the first. I have just started Lessons in Love which is the first in Charlie Cochrane's Cambridge Fellows series. Another great series which I am looking forward to getting into.

I'm back on the sofa after believing I was well enough to go to work yesterday, that was a mistake. I hate being sick, but good books help, a little. When I manage to read, that is. I do feel sorry for myself ... :(
Anne wrote: "Ije the Devourer of Books wrote: "I have just finished Lake on the Mountain: A Dan Sharp Mystery by Jeffrey Round and it was very good. Calathea wrote: "Anne wrote: "Ije the Devourer of Books wrote: "I have just finished Lake on the Mountain: A Dan Sharp Mystery by Jeffrey Round and it was very good. It won the LAMDA..."We are some pair, right? I hope you are well soon.
Ije the Devourer of Books wrote: "Get well soon both of you xxxx"Thank you, dear Ije and Anne, working on it (I think).
We could start a new fashion: the buddy cold. You know, like a buddy read just with a cold? Part of it could be to keep each other up on the progression of the cold, what you think and feel about it and most important the finished note when you're done...

Ha! But I'm hoping we're going to get our colds and flus over with early and be healthy all winter.

I'm "reading" Sister Wendy's 1000 Masterpieces and catching up on the stack of Publisher Weekly.
And I'm very excited because Ginn Hale's Champion of the Scarlet Wolf, books 1 & 2 arrived yesterday in the mail. There's something absolutely irresistible about the phrase "thrown into the company of a mongrel street witch." :-D

I'm with you on that hope!
I just finished Marty and the Pilot. Wow, just wow. Is it only me, or does Harper Fox get better and better for each book? This one blew me away.
Anne wrote: "I just finished Marty and the Pilot. Wow, just wow. Is it only me, or does Harper Fox get better and better for each book? This one blew me away."Oh, is it out already? I skipped her last one but that one I'd like to try. :)

I think you will like it.

It is a “normal“ contemporary, I liked it a lot too. For me it's not up there with my all time favourite books by her, like Life after Joe, Brothers of the Wild North Sea and the Tyack & Frayne series, maybe because I had strong issues with one of the MC's. But the writing is so very good and I really enjoyed the setting and its vivid description.

Looking forward to it! I always liked the pilots in her other books...
Just finished the 10th Strachey book and am planning to read The Paper Magician next. I was going to read it first, but since I was on vacation, I had a craving for something familiar, in an unfamiliar place, if that makes any sense.
I read G.B. Gordon's Santuario over the weekend and I loved it. I guess I'd call it an AU mystery romance. The depth of the characters was really wonderful and the writing was lovely. It's an excellent book and I'm quite excited for the second one.
After a somewhat disappointing YA-ish m/m story (a DNF, sadly), I went right on to another YA, which I am loving so far (thankfully!)--Madison Parker's Play Me, I'm Yours.
I'm reading The Paper Magician, but listening to The Ocean at the End of the Lane, which is a very scary book once you get into it! I must have had a horrified/worried expression all the way home from work tonight!

Kirsten wrote: "I am catching up on the Whybourne and Griffin series."I've read the first one of the series and liked it. Are the other volumes similar in quality?
I would have liked to listen to the audio books but can't get into the narration. :(
Sammie wrote: "I am having a difficult time getting into new books. Everybody has them. Maybe turn to an old favorite? Or audiobooks? Or something completely different? Josh once suggested non-fiction to cleanse the palate. I thought it worked quite well.
Sammie wrote: "I am having a difficult time getting into new books. Usually when this happens, I either try something where I know for sure what it will be like, for example, Chandler's style keeps me interested while calming me at the same time. Or i try something that's light but with strong writing and a sense of humor. Or something different than the last thing I read.
Calathea wrote: "...Whybourne and Griffin series...I've read the first one of the series and liked it. Are the other volumes similar in quality?..."
I read the first three, i think..., four maybe? They're all good, same style of adventure, and the MCs' relationship develops as their adventures continue.
Alison wrote: "...another YA, which I am loving so far (thankfully!)--Madison Parker's Play Me, I'm Yours."I liked her Sock it to Me, Santa!, very sweet story.

I think they're all of similar quality. I would say it's one of my favorite series, (view spoiler). I think you have to have a liking for classic horror, since there are a lot of eldritch monsters in this series.
