What Are you Reading?
Anne wrote: "I have just finished Champion of the Scarlet Wolf Book Two. What a ride it has been! I'm in awe of Ginn Hale and her brain that can construct such elaborate tales with such lovely characters. Skellan must be one of the sweetest heroes created :) ."Glad you enjoyed it. Skellan is so great! :)
I finished Alexis Hall's For Real the other day and it was so gorgeous and I loved it. I laughed, I cried, I experienced many other emotions. It's a beautiful book and I found it to be really romantic. I don't tend to seek out kinky books, it's not really my thing, and I wasn't super keen on that aspect of the story, but the sex scenes were so loving and so nice. The whole book was so full of love and light and goodness and I found it all quite uplifting. This is not how I've experienced books with BDSM content in the past. Once again, Alexis Hall has taken a thing and turned it on its head and made it into something different and shown me something new. Yay.
Antonella wrote: "Yesterday I spent a happy day rereading bits of The Administration series. I was once more lost in it. I can't even explain why I'm so taken with this series.I also found out there is a GR group ..."
Thanks for that link, Antonella! I read the series this summer and was surprised at how much I liked it! I can't wait for book 8 to come out as an ebook. :)
I read It's All Geek to Me last night and it was cute and fun and amusing. It's written by JL Merrow, so this comes as no surprise. I quite enjoyed it.
Alison wrote: "Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy is here! Yay! :)"Amazon just told me. I suppose it should be less difficult than usual to try to pace the reading. One story per day? We'll see...

I think this is such a revealing comment.
And I think it is the eternal question mark for all authors. Especially because of social media sites like Goodreads where you can get sky high ratings, but not really sell all that many books.
So it creates enormous confusion.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?
Wait. I'm not doing anything wrong! Then why aren't more people buying my books?
(This is a general comment -- and not specific to K.J. -- but I think we suffer from a wealth of information now.)
**ETA I would love to see more Archie and Daniel.

Alison wrote: "I read It's All Geek to Me last night and it was cute and fun and amusing. It's written by JL Merrow, so this comes as no surprise. I quite enjoyed it."I should give this one another try then. I usually enjoy JL Merrow's books.
Alison wrote: "Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy is here! Yay! :)"Yay!!! I checked this morning first thing to make sure the book made it to my kindle. Can't wait to read it! So many writers I enjoy, all in one place, and some new to me as well (Rhys). Very exciting!

I wanted something short and light and fun and it fit the bill perfectly. I wasn't sure about the premise initially, but it was on sale one day, so I got it and it proved to be a very pleasant way to spend an hour.
Alison wrote: "Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy is here! Yay! :)"Yes! Had to check my kindle before heading off to work this morning to make sure it was there. Now I just have to finish Lessons in Power, cuz I ain't stoppin Jonty and Orlando, then I will start on the anthology. So looking forward to it!
Alison wrote: "Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy is here! Yay! :)"And the paperback is already there!
Read Unspeakable Words which started out as very promising and then, though still good, it remained just that - good. Then: A Forbidden Rumspringa which is beautiful, but it made me anxious so i skipped to the last part directly; I do love Keira's writing though, it's just the subject matter that wasn't for me with this one. And yesterday I started a delightful book so far - Light.
I read Tigers on the Run. Loved it. Simply loved it. Read it with a smile on my face the whole time. I think some complained about it being too slowpaced, didn't they? But I felt it was just wonderful, loved Declan and Simon's relationship, Simon was even funnier in this book than the previous ones.
Finished RESCUED by Felice Stevens yesterday. Charming and I loved it to bits! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Currently reading UNCONVENTIONAL IN SAN DIEGO anthology. Has anyone read this? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Next up CHARMED & DANGEROUS! I know that one will be solid.
Late to the party, but I needed something to listen to while doing some mindless work, but not something too new where I would have to concentrate, so finally grabbed Fatal Shadows on audio. I haven't reread it fully since early 2012. so it's such a nice refresher, and the narrator is great!

I'm actually relistening to the I Spy series. :-) Totally enjoying this, especially now that Mark's with Stephen.

I'm also rereading Bel Canto for my summer reading. While I'm kind of upset that the author didn't acknowledge where the idea came from, seeing as it was based off a true event, it's still a very good book.
Varecia wrote: "Idamus wrote: "Played! Book one was OK, even if I found it a bit dragging in the end, so trying book 2 now :-)"
Hope you like it! I enjoyed it more than book 1. :-)"
I haven't read much, RL got in the way and I had to do audiobooks instead, but so far so good
Antonella wrote: "Alison wrote: "Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy is here! Yay! :)"And the paperback is already there!"
Oh :-)
I might just have to get that instead of the ebook

I just finished re-listening AE series. Every time I do this I'm amazed how stellar job the narrator Chris Patton does with the series! AND how brilliant author Josh is. :-)

I am dragging my feet with the Brandstetter I am reading. It is as good as the others, of cause, but it is already # 8 and I'm dreading the end of the series. Hansen is maybe the most visual writer I know, while reading I usually have only very vage ideas how the characters and the settings may look like, but his books are like films I see before my inner eye. And I really love how Hansen shows Dave's aging in all those small things. It is all so very true!
AE on audio IS great. I waited and waited until just a few months ago to brave listening to it. There's something about the prospect of shattered illusions (delusions?) that made me resist. But OH. MY. GOD. He nailed it - and Jake especially. I didn't really worry about Adrien's voice because the story is first person, and when I read first person I see and hear the protagonist as me. So, unless the narrator has a really bad voice, there's no way to screw up. And he did a great Adrien. The breathless rushes of voice, the sarcastic and withering asides ... spot on. But Jake? I was very nervous to hear that voice and was SO happy with it. I hear it whenever I think of the story and character. Talk about perfect casting.
I read the first story in Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy last night, Rhys Ford's Dim Sum Asylum. I think this shorter format really worked for her. Still, I admit I'd enjoy a series with this couple, but maybe a series of shorts/novellas like this one. :)

And also what an accomplishment it is to have pulled off an audiobook series that truly does justice to these books.

Varecia, so glad you're enjoying Brandstetter! My only advice is not to read the final book in public, whatever you do.
Steve,
Uh huh.

All this AE audio talk is making me want to relisten to that. Again. Perhaps after ISpy. ...

Just wow, Ginn Hale does it again. Swift and the Black Dog is amazing — gritty, gruesome, magical, amazing. Creating a plausible, dangerous world and its history in nine chapters. (Second story in Charmed and Dangerous: Ten Tales of Gay Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy)

It's weird, but from what I hear from many author friends of mine, is there's a big and vocal segment of the readership 'demanding' X amounts of sex scenes per book. I find that ludicrous.

And I wholeheartedly agree with everything you say about Hansen's writing.

I usually don't cry over books and films - last exception was Death of a Pirate King, where the lies Paul told Adrien and Adrien's devastation hit me like a truck - but I can see where the Brandstetter series is going. So a private reading might be a very good idea!

Huh. Well, that doesn't sound very sexy, actually — leaving little or nothing to the imagination. :-)

You forgot:
''Siren erotic romance must contain at least two consummated sex scenes using explicit adult language. Because this is an erotic romance, there must be penetrative intercourse involving the genitals.''

I read Beowulf in high school and I remember really liking it, and being surprised at how easy it was to read, and also how short it was.
