What Are you Reading?
Jordan, I hear they're long but good. I don't mind long if the story is well-plotted and well-paced. I think the idea of a gay Robin Hood is delicious. I'm not necessarily a fan of historicals, but I definitely make exceptions. Plus, I asked one of my 'go to' people and they gave it a glowing recommendation.
Sabine - I need to reread Fair Play! I'm hoping for audio!!

There are two series I've wolfed down like nothing else and those are Adrien English Mysteries and The Rifter series. Enough said.
Haldis, Idamus, Steve... anyone who hasn't read Ginn Hale's The Rifter yet — you're in for an unforgettable adventure!

Yes, they are long, but well plotted. And the accents are delish too in audio form. :-) You can always listen to them in little snippets if that suits you better.
I probably should have listed it as historical on my shelves. I thought of it more as fantasy almost, because of all the use of magic and whatnot. lol.
Jordan, I just downloaded the first in the series. I can't wait to listen to it.

I have too many unfinished series going on, I won't start a new one just yet (only exceptions are Josh, JCP and Abigail Rough) once I finish one, I'll take a look at a new series
Has anyone read RARELY PURE and NEVER SIMPLE by Angel Martinez? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...I liked the excerpt and it has great GR and Amazon reviews, but it deals with 20 kidnapped kids. Don't know if I can handle on-page violence, esp. against kids. Please advise.

I just started Guardians Of The Haunted Moor by Harper Fox. I hope to finish it tonight. I love this series so much. I'm so glad to get another one!

I am currently reading Hero and while I like the protagonist, I didn't realize it was more of a YA book. Not quite what I was in the mood for. Also, strangely enough, it's reading as a bit dated.

Thanks for letting me know, Antonella. I love Angel Martinez's books; even the ones I read with deadly violent potential only touch on it briefly, so I didn't completely freak out. But mixing kids with psychopaths had me wary. I only have to wait until payday to get my next batch of her books!

I haven't read this one... yet. But it's in our LGBTQ collection in the teen room, so I do know about it. Now you have me curious about the dated writing, considering it was written in 2007. Which, yeah, I guess maybe that is getting old these days. I keep thinking 2000 was only ten years ago. It bugs the heck out of me when I remember that no, it's actually 2015, which actually means that 2007 is almost ten years ago already. Where the heck is the time going?!?!?!

I was just thinking the other day about the Rifter books. Such deep love have I for these books. I'm going to do a re-read one of these days, but I am holding off until I have forgotten more.

Yes. That's the trouble. Too much page time inevitably goes to the family dynamic. Which I find dull. But then I'm someone who prefers that at least one person die violently per story, so... I guess my taste is pretty specific. :-D

When it comes to Harper, I'll read anything. She could insert a whole orphanage and I'd give it a try.
I loved Tyack and Frayne the baby didn't take away from the guys relationship for me.
Well Guardians Of The Haunted Moor does have a kid, who is absent during most of the book.PLUS, two people die violently, and there were other bodies in the past. It is most definitely a strong member of this series. Read it guys! Don't hold back!

I also started reading Glitterland. I'm not sure how I feel about Essex. Normally, a character's lisps and stutters and vocal inflections don't bother me when spelled out, but his are starting to get to me. I can't get much of a bead on his personality because his voice keeps getting in the way. Also, of course, we're colored by what the MC is thinking about him too. I guess I'll just have to read on and find out!

At that Dreamspinner 25% off I bought After School Activities and read it last night and oh wow. I love it!It was fun and funny, I read it with a goofy smile on my face most of the time (yeah, there was a little bit of an angst and even though I predicted it I was still feeling the dread of it while waiting for it) and sweet and a lovely HEA. All the things quite necessary for a enjoyable reading :)
After reading it I immediately started looking for other books by the author but unfortunately it seems to be his first published. I hope he'll continue writing stories because this one was quite lovely.
I also read His Grandfather's Watch. Please tell me I'm not the only one who cried in her pillow while reading the second story?

I've been reading LOR stories, and found several that I enjoyed. Been at loose ends and can't concentrate enough to read long, involved downer stories. Last night I was in the mood for sf/f adventure and read HELP! MY LOVER'S AN ALIEN by Carol Pedroso. I loved it and hope it's the start of a new series. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Struggling with THE LODESTAR OF YS by Amy Rae Durreson...it goes on and on and on! God I hope I finish this soon. I like it...but I have the attention span of a two-year-old!
Anyway, don't know if this is the kind of books you read normally, but if you need a pick me up, these filled the bill for me.
I recently read two good gay fiction stories - Planting Eli (Southern Tier Editions) and In Memory of Angel Clare. Planting Eli is both serious and funny. It is about a man who realises that he is not going to die from Aids (because of the new treatments) and he has to get to grips with living. In Memory of Angel Clare is more serious, looking at how a group of friends grieve the loss of a mutual friend and respond to the boyfriend of the man who passed away. Both books are written really well and I enjoyed reading them.I also finished The Affair of the Porcelain Dog and The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal and I loved both stories. I really like KJ Charles especially her paranormal/fantasy books.
Now I am reading Murder In The Garden District. Back to New Orleans with PI Chanse Macleod!! This is one of my favourite murder mystery series and this one is great. I am having a really good time with books at the moment.
