I'm annoyed with myself because I used my ARe free code for the second one (they are expensive!) before I read the first and I'll probably never read it.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments I liked them all. I liked Warrior Cross and Armed and Dangerous, and i love the Love is a Stranger series. I stopped at book 8 of Ty and Zane but i will finish the series off this year. I have just started reading Boystown 7: Bloodlines and i am also reading Family of Lies: Sebastian. This is fantasy by Sam Argent who is a new to me author. It is a great book with lots of characters which can be a bit hard to keep up with, but also great humour.

message 7855: by Ame (new)

Ame | 1744 comments Yeah, I'm with Ije. I loved them all. And in Texas? One of my favorite C&R stories.

Boystown 7. So good. I have become a huge Marshall Thornton fan after reading Boystown. And I love the subtle changes in Nick's behaviour and attitude in this book. It's a story of a person's growth and maturity in many ways.

I loved Stars & Stripes, too.

I'm glad to hear that about Boystown. I need to get back to that series. Nick is a frustrating but still likable character.

It's kind of like a bait and switch to me. *^_^* I want to read stories about the characters from this series, not some other one that I have to read a bunch of other books first to keep up.

My opinion as well. I'm curious to know how it ends, but I remember Ball & Chain. A summary will be enough.

message 7859: by Ame (new)

Ame | 1744 comments I finished Misfits. It's really excellent. I don't read so much MMM stories but the description was intresting so I figured I'd try it out and I wasn't disappointed.

I liked how things progressed slowly, not just wham bam and all is good.

Ball & Chain was wedding talk with a touch of plot, but I still love the boys, including the Sidewinders

Can I ask what generally went wrong?

I read the first one and wasn't massively impressed by it, but I enjoyed it enough and have been thinking of continuing. If I get advance warning that it turns weird though...

I loved Misfits, but then I love all of Garret Leigh's books. Menages usually don't work for me, with a few exceptions, but this one did. I'm always curious as to how the author describes menages since I believe in real life they are very hard to maintain,(I know they excist, but they are rare I believe) so as long as the book concentrates on the practical mechanics and emotions and struggles, I'm good. If it ends up a sex- and orgyfeast, I'm not. But that goes for all books, come to think of it.

Looks like I'll need to check out Misfits. I've enjoyed other books by Garrett Leigh.

I'm currently making my way through the Dark Horse series by Kate Sherwood with is Real Life Paced about an MMM couple. And it does go through all the mechanics and issues. It's not easy. But I'm really liking the narrator and the story. There are a few issues I have about over explaining some things, like the barn schedule, but I find I can overlook that easily enough. Especially when the voices of some of the characters are so damn sexy it's awful. Lol.

Yeah I liked it too, a lot. And you're right, three people in a relationship can't be easy because I believe people are quite possessive in their nature and having to share can be tough. So I am fascinated by these kind of relationships. Do they ever last, outside of romance books?

Polygamy do exist in some cultures of course, mostly one man having several wives, although I read about a tribe in Nepal where a woman might marry two or three brothers, but usually I get the impression one of the parties, mostly the woman, don't really have a say in the matter. For three or more grown ups to choose to stay together a long time, I think is more rare. I hope for those who want it, that it is doable.

message 7871: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments There were a few things that bugged me but overall I liked Misfits. I thought it was a well done menage.

Has anyone read Heart, also by Garrett Leigh? I have that on my Kindle but afraid it will be heavy on the angst. I might give it a try soon.

I didn't care for Dark Horse. The writing was not for me, but I have liked some of her other books.

message 7873: by KC (new)

KC | 4897 comments Finished The Handsome Man's Deluxe Café, book 15 in the series. I fell in love with the gentle atmosphere and people in these books. The mysteries have always been weak though they did keep one's interest, but it was the human element that made these books special. But slowly the mysteries have basically disappeared and the daily life of the characters has not been evolving much, and most disappointing in this particular book was that the author made fun of one of the characters, having her appear ridiculously gullible and out of character.

Yeah I know, but it's mostly in patriarchical cultures where women don't have rights and therefore no say in the matter.

But I'm curious about those who willingly enter that. I read couple of months ago about a Swedish "couple" (of course not a couple since they are three), a woman and two bisexual men. Ended up spending half the night reading their blog which I of course didn't bookmark and don't remember anymore what was called. But it was an interesting read because it also touched on all kinds of practical subjects which are hard for three people in a relationship, like regarding the children.

message 7876: by KC (new)

KC | 4897 comments Also read two Colton (Hansen) books: The Outward Side and Strange Marriage which were, as expected, amazing in different ways. I could see Hansen in them easily, but they are very different from the relative comfort of the Dave Brandstetter series and short mysteries stories. There's a sort of crazy, exhilarating energy to them, no holding back, a deep contrast between the apparent sleepiness of the world - it always feels that it will wake up and pounce and devour and sometimes it does - and the inner turmoil of the (main) characters. And amazing too, how a gesture in Hansen's books can express a whole life in detail.

I'm at about the midpoint. I set it aside for the past week or so, not from disinterest, but because I appreciate it too much to have my reading experience colored by the stresses of the past week or two at work. Now it's my spring break and I'll get back to it and enjoy. : )

I feel exactly like this about Hansen's books. I'd love to read them ALL in a row, but I just can't. They give me too must to think about and they put me through such a tight mangel of emotions that even though I crave for more, my mind just couldn't take them without a slight break. To let them sink in properly and to gather my strength. :-) It's a bit like being feverishly in love, isn't it? :-D

Exactly, so well said! I find myself realizing things that were pushed aside while going through intense and compelling emotions revolving around the main character, and suddenly, there's a secondary character that becomes so very important and i feel i can't and don't want to rush it. Wonderful :-)

Yes! :-) And it's so strange that long after I've finished reading Hansen's book (and it's the same with Josh's work!) I find myself unexpectedly thinking of a character or a moment... or the meaning of a certain gesture or action of that character... or a beautiful line in the book. And this happens while I'm in shower or driving to work or gardening or grocery shopping. :-D

It also makes it difficult to concentrate on other authors' works while I'm still partly in Hansenland (or Lanyonland!). So yes, like being in love, definitely. :-)

Some of the things in the long article Antonella posted - the first night B and J hook up and then A was in the kitchen the morning after... J and A own a business together, J hires B who is young with no career or ambitions to work as A's personal assistant so B can figure out what he wants to do with his life... B moving in with J and A and then teaching himself how to code... etc. Just kind of made me curious. Plus she does write that other series about porn stars. Maybe Misfits is sort of RPF?
