That sounds much more reasonable.

Haldis | 1288 comments I had a couple of credits that kept screaming at me so I bought Widdershins by Jordan L. Hawk. Book 1 of a series....so much for my resolution to read books I have already purchased. I'm doomed...but happily doomed.

Since you enjoyed The Best Corpse for the Job, have you read other books by Charlie Cochrane? They can be described as cozy mystery too, with humour. Most of them are historical, unlike Best Corpse. Most of the cozy mysteries which I like best were written at about the same date as she uses for most of her books, early twentieth century, so they don't seem that historical to me!

Alison | 4756 comments I read a really fun book over the weekend--Alex Gabriel's Love for the Cold-Blooded. Or: The Part-Time Evil Minion's Guide to Accidentally Dating a Superhero.. The title caught my eye and the blurb was great and it had six ratings on GR and I decided to give it a try and oh man, it paid off this time--this book is awesome! It's all about over-the-top comic book superheroes and supervillains and it is just so much fun, and it's funny, too. The son of a supervillain accidentally falls for a superhero and hijinks ensue while the endless clash between good and evil continues in the background. It's a fun and action-packed light comedy, the writing's snappy and had me smiling pretty much the whole way through, and the characters are really entertaining. Tons of fun! :)

I need something light and fluffy in audio. Do any of you have good recommendations? My eyes still hurt too much to read and especially to watch tv. Ugh.

Social Skills by Sara Alva
Ethan, Who Loved Carter by Ryan Loveless
Frog by Mary Calmes
Hound Dog & Bean by BG Thomas

All fun books, good narration.

The first couple books in the knitter series are light and fluffy. The last two are....pretty serious.

HJ | 3603 comments Susinok wrote: "I just finished Enlightened by Joanna Chambers. Wow what a wonderful trilogy. Some of the best historical I have read in a very long time."

Isn't it? There an extra very short story for the trilogy free on Smashwords Seasons Pass. Her first book, The Lady's Secret, is also very good. Her second, Unforgivable, is also good but a bit more angsty and I don't like angst. Then she has "Introducing Mr. Winterbourne" in the excellent anthology Another Place In Time. Her latest is The Dream Alchemist which is paranormal.

Talking of good historicals, I can't remember if you've read Think of England by K.J. Charles, which is also brilliant.

message 7267: by HJ (new)

HJ | 3603 comments Jordan, I just looked through my audiobook library for something light and fluffy for you. The nearest I could find were the Men of Smithfield books by L.B. Gregg; they're not really fluffy, but they're amusing and the plots aren't too difficult (partly because they're short, I think), so you don't feel tired listening to them.

Great minds thing alike! (This is an English saying which seems apposite.) But what a lovely coincidence.

message 7272: by KC (new)

KC | 4897 comments I finished yesterday The Dream Alchemist. I liked it, very well written as usual, and i'll definitely want to read the next ones in the series. I'm not completely sure what i think about it though, at times it felt a bit hesitant but on the other hand, we don't know yet what's in the next two books. Lots of potential there since there's a lot that we still don't know about the MCs and the other characters and the rules of the dream world, etc., so i'll be patiently waiting for the next one :-)

I've heard of the discussion because Julio Alexis Genao became involved. And Sunita, that is two persons I like.

Here is what Alexis Hall wrote about the whole story: http://www.quicunquevult.com/the-fact...

message 7275: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments I'm not 100% sure where it started. I think in the comments on the review of Think of England on DA site and then further in Julio's review of Think of England (which is up to 40+ pages of comments now).

And then on some blogs. The blog posts got ugly and stupid, as they do, and they have since been taken down.

I do not go to the DA site. That saves my blood pressure.

Well, you are relatively ''young'' here. We survived different blow-ups like this in the past.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments The best thing about that blow up was the way KJ Charles kept silent and didnt get involved as far as I know. She showed real dignity and grace and restraint.

I ended up going with The Nothingness of Ben last night when I saw it on my wish list and cheaper than the others. Stupid me never listened to the sample. The narrator reads too fast! So for lack of download time late at night and already in bed, I switched to CUTYS and had some odd dreams throughout the night about the case as I intermittently dozed and listened to the book.

Tonight I might give Ethan Who Loved Carter a try

Same here. I really like Marshall's writing style and Nick Nowak is one of those rare unique characters that keeps true to himself as he evolves through the series; i enjoyed his imperfections and cheered for him even when he was being a tad frustrating. I enjoyed the mysteries and relationships throughout.

Alison | 4756 comments I finished John Wiltshire's Love is a Stranger last night and wow, it's really fantastic. It's an intense black ops thriller romance and it's totally gripping. The love story between these two fascinating, damaged people is beautiful. I've been completely absorbed in this book for the past couple of days and I absolutely loved it. I really enjoy his writing and there's a wonderfully subtle understated humour to it, which I love. Oh, and there's an awesome dog in it. I am so excited to read the rest of this series.

Must get the second one. I thought there was a quite a lot of sex in the first one, but it was relevant and we learned things about them and it was well-written, so I didn't mind. If there's even more sex in the second one, I am sure I will agree with you. :)

Also, Love is a Stranger is dedicated to Josh. :)

The title is probably from the Rihanna song 'We Found Love (in a Hopeless Place)'. I haven't read the book but maybe the lyrics fit:
