I have to admit that I barely notice chapters when I'm reading. I couldn't limit myself to one chapter a week: I'd forget the beginning! In other groups I belong to we divide the threads by every 5 chapters, and that works well: I mark the start of the sixth chapter and go and read the 1-5 thread before continuing.

I think that's a good idea. Discussing The Charioteer with others helped me to understand everything better and the discussion itself was hugely enjoyable. You guys can start posting your discussion from where we left off on the BOM thread :-)
In December 2012 we were going to read The Charioteer four chapters a week, but in the end we had so much to talk about that we expanded the schedule to two months:

It's best read when you're in a mood for something quiet and thoughtful -- where you can just appreciate the language and the flow of words? I bought it in audio, but I think that was more because...well, it was available and I love the book. I don't know that I will ever listen to the audio. To me it is too private a story.
Though that probably sounds odd! :-)

It is the kind of story where the reader puts a lot of herself into it while reading. So it becomes a very personal, private book. It happens sometimes, but rarely.

And to me, I feel like I'll be able to delve deeper into the book and get a deeper understanding of it through listening to the audio.

I don't think it's odd. Audio changes the way you view a story. If you don't want that relationship you have with a story to be altered, then don't change the format. I've had a few books that I regretted listening to because it sort of messed it up for me.
One time it was the narrator. She was whiny and I never perceived the heroine of that story as whiny. Really messed it up!

That's very true about a character's voice. The book I'm listening to right now has a female elf with a very low voice and she seems less sure of herself than she did in my head when I was reading the print edition. However, I think he did a great job reading the male troll's voice and the male mc's voice too. Actually, I love the troll's really deep register and his slow way of speaking. So, they do make up for the elf, but if they hadn't...

Yes! It is a surprise when I hear a narrator who interprets the character differently. Or delivers a line that I envisioned as light and funny as harsh and serious. It's such an interesting process.
I love Chris Patton's narration, but honestly his Adrien is nothing like I hear Adrien. Still, it is excellent and enjoyable to listen to.
Now his Jake...his Jake is bang on. :-D

See now that I have heard Chris Patton's Adrien I can't imagine Adrien any other way. And yes, Jake is perfect!Same with Kit and JX and Kevin R. Free.
I am reading Blindsided, an International Men of Sports book co-authored by TA Chase and Devin Rhodes. This series is light and fun and each is in a different country with different sports and characters. Just the type of light, fun read I need right now.

I don't remember now, since it's been so long, how I felt about Adrien in the beginning, but I do like his Adrien now for sure.
It does make me wonder how Adrien sounds in your head, though.
It's kinda like JCP's Psycop series. I love Vic but not Jacob as much. You can't please everyone, that's for sure.

I have read Burning Up the Ice. It was pretty cute but I have to say I don't remember much about it.

I seem to be working through them in order. It's very complicated and busy at work right now, so something light and fun is just want I want. Don't really care if it's memorable or not.

In progress: one Tey mystery, which i'm enjoying, but it's not a fast read, more of a quiet, calming read; and Murder at Pride Lodge (if it's good, so far it is, there are two more in the series).Looking forward to reading: The Dream Alchemist, The Best Corpse for the Job and There Will Be Phlogiston.

I did get the first three mysteries of the McNease books. You'll have to let me know how you like Murder at Pride Lodge. They did look really good.
Having the afternoon off (yay!) and read Lou Harper's Secrets and Ink. What a fun, light mystery! First person, very enjoyably done, loved the MC's voice. And there appears to be a sequel coming out soon.

And to think I've set three books, one of them a BOM for another GR group, to read before the Rifter. I'm not sure I can do it. They're in my hands and I'm too excited to wait!

When I clicked on that one, it brought up A Rumpole Christmas: Stories as a recommendation.I loved those books! They were so much fun and he was such a sarcastic bastard. Also, since he was a defense attorney who really cared about his clients, his cases did not always end well. That went very much against convention but I also loved that about the series. And who could forget "She Who Must Be Obeyed..."

Yes, I got it as well, and I still have to reread Lord of the White Hell 1 and 2 and read Champion of the Scarlet Wolf Book One.

I just finished There Will Be Phlogiston. It was different from what I expected, but lovely for all that. Maybe not for those who don't like female protags, but I do :)

Still working through A Clash of Kings. But have a couple of long journeys coming up for Christmas travel, so will get it done by Christmas Day I reckon.

Beautiful, but so different from Prosperity which I adored as well. I CANNOT wait for the rest of the series. :-)
I read Gaudete last night which was a very nice short Christmas story. I cannot decide what to read next - maybe something else short, light and Christmasy before I start something longer.

I enjoyed it. The pace is not too slow and not too fast, not in a hurry, i'd say. I liked the way the POV shifts seamlessly between the characters, and there was quite a cool thing as a clue which i missed, but that's okay, it was nice not knowing until almost the end who'd done it. Will read the next one.

I've gotten through a few books lately... I enjoyed the fairy tale-feel of Hammer & Air (which I was able to get at the library, which felt like an extra bonus.) Finally got to book 2 Beguiled and enjoyed it. (Got to love Murdo.) Am finishing up The King's Men, which is wrapping up to be a good end to the trilogy (although very violent in the middle, so had to skim a little.)I'm attempting a reading challenge in 2015, or at least part of 2015, where I try to really focus on only the books that I own, although with a few exceptions (the occasional retail therapy or new book by say, Mr. Lanyon.) With over 200+ books on my Kindle, I feel a little overwhelmed, so will see how I can whittle things down...
I have been setting up my shelf for my 2015 TBR challenge. I own hundreds of ebooks plus some print books I need to read. I decided to narrow it down to the ones that I most want to read. So far my shelf is at 75. I know I will still buy a lot of new gotta-have-it-now books but at least I'll make an effort to get to the "old" ones. I am currently reading The Magpie Lord. I decided to do a reread of the series before starting Flight of Magpies.
I am reading Lone Wolf by L.A. Witt and Alexsadr Voinov. It's the latest in the Bluewater Bay series.

Just purchased. Although in all honesty I will be reading almost exclusively vintage mystery next year. I do not think there will be time left for anything else.
