In the meantime I found a new Hansen/Colton thanks to... KC: she reads Song of the Loon and someone commented that a better an example of the author overcoming the pulp medium to produce literature is ''Lost on Twilight Road'' by James Colton. But costs $299.99 on Amazon.
I also found out that A Country of Old Men was translated in 1993 into Italian as ''Omicidio a Tempo di Rock'' for a very famous series of thrillers: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22...
My research is the result of restraining myself from reading Fair Play: I feel I should work, so I don't read it, but I don't work either because I'm frustrated that I can't read, so I find all possible alternatives... Probably I should adopt a more rational policy ;-).

As for Colton books, there are three that are available and affordable (all being relative on both accounts): Strange Marriage (which Johanna recommended here), Todd, and The Outward Side.

Haha! No, I'm quite sure they'd not appreciate it very much as they are people who once told me I had nothing to worry about my son being gay as he was such a boy and so manly.
I told them I wasn't worried at all, he might turn out gay after all.
That topic hasn't been brought up again.

I'm glad I'm not the only one following this crazy road...
25% into Fair Play and giving up for now, I need sleep, a migraine woke me up at 5am and I'm beat.Nite folks
Antonella wrote: "Ame wrote: "I told them I wasn't worried at all, he might turn out gay after all."Good answer!"
I agree!
I was at about 30% in Fair Play, but it was 1:00am and I needed to get up for work at 7:00. So I reluctantly set it aside, then of course had insomnia. Good thing the kiddos were mostly mellow(ish) today. : )
I finished my reread of Fair Game last night at 1.30, being careful to leave the Kindle out of reach to avoid stupid ideas like starting immediately Fair Play. That is I will need self-discipline to work today. Maybe I can make tiny breaks now and then and read a bit...

Antonella, I am so proud of you! :-)
Sabine wrote: "Antonella, I am so proud of you! :-)"Thank you, me too.
At the moment I just wanted to make a break and read only a tiny bit of ''Fair Play'' and... I don't find it! I do have a bit of a mess with my account with amazon, because of different passwords, still...
ETA: I bought it, or bought it again. I'll see when I check the credit card account.

Lost on Twilight Road pops up on a semi-regular basis on ABE. It's such an odd story, but it has so much I love about it. It's one of my favorites of the Colton era.

Today it went better. I had two breaks and read in total one third of it. Now I'm going to read a bit more, but I don't plan to finish it, I treat it as something precious, to savour.

I haven't even started it yet! Tonight is looking good, though, and tomorrow. I think I'm ready now.

You're good, Antonella! I caved and spent the whole day reading Fair Play. It was totally worth being shot by an irate customer tomorrow when he finds out that he will have to wait one more day for his text ;-)
Yay, I got off from school 2 hours early today, I CAN FINISH FAIR PLAY TODAY :-)And my study adviser for the big December essay approved my choice, so reseach can begin.
I finished it snuggled up in bed with the electric blanket on when I came home early from work sick. It distracted me from coughing, sneezing and sniffling. :D

I'm irritated in a mellow sort of way by my reading habits of late. I'm so busy that I just don't have time. And when I do have time I only get a few pages in before I start to fall asleep!
So, I'm still reading The Sign of Four. Once that's done, FP will be next! I promise!

I am reading Sleigh Ride by Heidi Cullinan. The Christmas/Winter stories are out already! Since it's so cold today, it seems appropriate.

Yes, Sleigh Ride is in the same town, and has Arthur, one of the side characters from last year. I loved the Gabriel, the geeky/kinky librarian!
Now I am reading Nothing Special by Jay Northcote. Jay has joined my other favorite British authors. I love her stuff.
Correction, I'm reading Nothing Ventured, which is in the same town as Nothing Special. Lazy sod trains for a mud race. Fun. :)
Question: What do people do with books you are "currently reading" and decide 30% or so in that a root canal would be less painful? Do you create a "I would rather die then read this book" shelf or do you just remove it? Just wondering. ps. and here I thought a book described as a paranormal time travel romance murder mystery might be fun.

I tend to go from 'Want to Read' to 'Read' and only occasionally click on 'Currently Reading.' I'm much too lazy to create a shelf to put my dnf's on. The books just go to the last page of my kindle where I hardly ever venture.

I would think that too.

If I put the book down with the intention of finishing it later, I'll just change it back to own-but-unread (a shelf I made).

Even if it's just a begrudging, half-hearted skimming, I'll get through it. I do have a DNF shelf, though it's only got two things on it. I have quite a few books now that I haven't finished for whatever reason (mostly they're library books that I had to return), but I intend to, and they go on the "on hold" shelf.
Haldis wrote: "Question: What do people do with books you are "currently reading" and decide 30% or so in that a root canal would be less painful?"I have a DNF shelf. If I remove it, I know I can forget which book it was, and I don't want to read or download it again.
I figured I would just remove it. That's what I did with the other DNF, but that one I hadn't marked as "currently reading"...Thanks, I also am too lazy to create a new shelf....

Very good point!!
And I am just now somehow finding out that Robin Hobb has a new book in the Assasin's universe! I loved the two trilogies in that series, and the Fool was such an enigmatic gender-fluid character.Fool's Assassin:

Perfect! I am going to re-read that one soon. I am going to take a few days off for along weekend in December sometime and indulge in some lounging/reading (NO Xmas shopping!)

These pop up on my recommended for you on Amazon. Maybe I will try them.

And like Na said, I need them to keep track of the dnf-ed books so I don't buy them again on accident.
Calathea wrote: "I have a dnf-shelf and a finish later-shelf. "That's a good idea! It would make it a lot easier for me to differentiate between books/authors I do not want to read again and books/authors I was just momentarily in the wrong mood for.
It is so difficult to read something after two extraordinary good books and be fair...I read Sleigh Ride, but maybe it would have worked better closer to Christmas when my mood is mellowing :-)
And I finished an older contemporary by Alex Beecroft, Shining in the Sun, which I quite liked. I read some of her historical m/m novels before, those are good too.
Haldis wrote: "Question: What do people do with books you are "currently reading" and decide 30% or so in that a root canal would be less painful?"I think it is important to give it a one star, not only as a service to your readers friends, but also for yourself, in case you in a couple of years forget you had read it and found it awful.
For I eliminated several ones from my Kindle because I thought: ''If I die, I don't want anybody to think I read such shit ;-)''.
