Susinok | 5205 comments I caved and downloaded Flight of Magpies at work. I will start it at lunch... :)

(I have snuck a copy of Calibre onto my work computer for just such an emergency...)

Can we rant all together about the publishing houses who don't warn you when a book you preordered is out? Once I almost bought twice the same book because of this.

I checked and it's on my bookshelf so I'll have to DL later. I just realized, too, that I had pre-ordered Foundation of Trust and never got a notice. I almost bought that one the other day at amazon. Samhain used to send an e-mail notification, but I guess this is not a feature of their new "improved" website.

Honestly, this is a big reason I prefer Amazon. It's just easier to keep track and see what you've already purchased, and the books show up on my Kindle when they are supposed to. :)

I knew I would find fellow ranters here ;-).

But seriously, I don't think that an automatically sent e-mail should be a big problem nowadays.

BTW Riptide send a ''warning'' mail, and people who preordered can get the ebook 2 days in advance.

I actually got an email yesterday about Flight of Magpies and, as a bonus, the file even works! Samhain came through for me this time with no problems. It made me hopeful they were getting things sorted out, but it sounds like lots of you are still having problems. Sigh. Drat. :(

message 6459: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments I always pre-order from Riptide so I can get my books two days early!

I intended to start Flight of Magpies at lunch but it was too heavy and I have a lot on my mind due to a huge work project, so I started a re-read of Fair Game instead.

Sigh. I guess I will pester them and see why I'm not getting the e-mails anymore. I certainly get enough marketing e-mails from them!

I do not like the new website! I just spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how to download the darn books. Why can't it just say 'Bookshelf,' how hard would that be? Jeez.

ETA: And, of course, the .mobi file didn't work...

message 6461: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments Yeah, Samhain site is a hot mess right now. Email 'em and tell them what you think so they fix it all. It may take some time though.

I'm so brain dead from work that I needed something familiar. I just can't work too hard at figuring things or paying attention at the moment.

It will all be over with tomorrow morning then work goes back to normal busy instead of insanity busy.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments I am reading The First Rule of Ten The First Rule of Ten (A Tenzing Norbu Mystery, #1) by Gay Hendricks . It is the first book in a murder mystery series about an ex Buddhist monk who became an LA cop and later private investigator. It isn't mm and I don't think it is romantic (at least not so far) but the writing is really good and I am enjoying it. I thought I should share because it is free on AMZ at the moment.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments So annoying when that happens.

I get emails from Open Road Media publishing and they advertise all these discounts that are only available in the States. When I questioned them they said they hope to eventually extend the bargains to Europe :(. I also get the daily book deals from https://www.bookbub.com/home/ and although they don't have many mm books they do have other free and discounted books and their bargains are available in the US and UK. I think book sellers should try and make their discounts universal.

Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments I finished Brandon Mills versus the V-Card and it is definitely one of my favorite books of the year. Wonderful characters, and it was sweet and funny and even made me tear up a few times. :-)

I feel like I've been reading a lot of NA lately, which is not usually my thing, but I've read a bunch of good ones, m/m and m/f.

I splurged and bought the three volumes of The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal Volume 1: Poor Boys and Pilgrims in print, and they arrived yesterday. I know what I'll be reading this weekend!

I gather he has a contemporary story or two in the pipeline for next year. I don't remember where I saw this (but I do recall there being titles and months and proper things like that), but I'm fairly sure you guys will be in luck, and possibly multiple times. :)

Hey, thanks for adding the links!

I think the "What else are you reading" topic works quite well for that purpose. At least, I rarely miss interesting new releases because they tend to pop up here.

(And, yes, I'm the one trying to keep the number of topics manageabel... )

I'm currently relistening to Aleks' Dark Edge of Honor only a few months after listening to it for the first time. Can't help it. I love it!

I also started Damaged Heart this morning. So far it's good. But I'm only about one chapter into it. I had to spend extra time putting on Halloween makeup so I had less reading time this morning.

False alarm! Ages ago, when Josh first said Fair Play would be published in November, I put a note in my calendar on 1st November. Of course it isn't out until 10th November so I've plenty of time to finish Fair Game.

But if it had been due today, I would *of course* have finished Fair Game before even peeking at Fair Play!!

Varecia | 956 comments I finished Flight of Magpies yesterday, but I am not sure what so think about it. As a stand-alone I would have liked it a lot, but as part of the series it left me a bit at a loss.
And because I could not sleep I decided to read one of the few books by Harper Fox I had not read yet - Last Line - just to find out that I am really a wimp. I finished, but barely, I found the mind manipulation going on there together with the alluding to torture so unsettling...
