It would be great to have you on board, Marge. :-) And it's especially nice to know that you've already read two of the books and that you are still anxious to read more! ;-)
I don't know how intensive the discussion would be or how many books we would discuss, but I'd really like to try this with you all. We probably don't need to be very organized with it either -- or we can make only a very loose schedule for it, if you guys think that is needed.

So I am now reading Out Of Focus by LA Witt. It's a menage/bdsm. Guaranteed baby-free!"
That is how I felt after reading a Amazon freebie by Bec Botefuhr, a very highly rated book and I wanted to bang my head repeatedly while reading. I will not be reading more of her books even though most of them have very good rating.

Schedules are always nice for goal-setting and coordination, but for this discussion maybe we could try something a little bit different. If we have a topic page for each book in the series, we could set a goal date to begin each discussion, but let everyone know that the discussion is open-ended. Those who might join the discussion later would still have the option or invitation to comment on previous books, and those interested could read and respond as they like. I'm making this sound more complicated than I mean to. : ) I'm suggesting what already happens with the topic pages for Josh's books, the possibility for open-ended discussions. We might need a "header" topic page that explains all this and the schedule, since that's likely to change with this number of books being read.

This is an excellent idea! I was starting already to feel a bit stressed at the idea of confronting that thick book one story after the other in a tight schedule...

I'll reply to my own message, hehe.
It's not that Forever Promised was bad, per se. It was just more babies. I've had enough of baby fever in m/m. I understand that it's something on a lot of people's minds right now but I am not interested in babies. I'm not interested in m/f babies, m/m babies, or f/f babies. Kids as part of m/m lives are ok if it's not over the top.
The last three books I've read had over the top kids and babies. I'm DONE with BABIES!
No, I do not have children. :)

Really? You do surprise me!!
I could feel a post coming on about the apparent plethora of baby books which included the word "heteronormative", but I resisted. (ETA - I haven't looked back to see which books have been mentioned as including babies, so no criticism is intended of any specific authors, by implication or otherwise!)
I suppose the answer for those of us who prefer not to read about babies is for it to be clear which books include them so we can avoid them (both the books and the babies). It must be annoying if there's a series which you like which gets overtaken by child fever, but fortunately that's only happened once to me (I think).

My solution is simply to avoid those books. (Didn't the blurb indicate the content, kind of like one of those "Baby on Board" bumper stickers? :-D)
But yeah, this recent craze in m/m romance is definitely not for everybody.

In addition to those, I really liked In the Right Light, The Three of Us, Breathing Snow, and Human Frailties. Also The Five Times Raptor Messed With The Bull was an unexpected treat.

Not outright. And I got suckered by the fact they were sequels to series I was following. Oh well. LA Witt's BDSM stuff has cleansed me of all babycrap.

I don't mind, I read for the good story, so if the author can make me interested, good for her/ him:)
I just finished Fear, Hope, and Bread Pudding which is about the relationship between parent and child, and the intensity of emotions that can bring forth. Maybe not a typical romance story, but well written and very emotional. And about babies. :)
I also finished Sole Support which is about taking care of a parent slowly becoming lost in dementia. It was a little slow in places, but Kaje Harper always write well. Also a topic that might not be for everyone, but that resonated with me.
What all this says to me is that m/m authors write about life in general, which I like. But it must be well done or I stop caring what you write, be it gay, straight, bi or trans and any variation thereof, don't bore me!

So cool, I adore Richard Feynman. One of these days I'll try reading The Feynman Lectures on Physics Vol 8 again. Even the introduction and forewords are fascinating.

Thanks for that info - I've just started Cited to Death.

The sequel just got added to GR too: Hoarded to Death :)

Then I predict wild success for a book due from Josephine Myles in August called Junk

"When an avalanche of books cuts off access to his living room, university librarian Jasper Richardson can no longer ignore the truth. His ever-growing piles of books, magazines and newspapers can no longer be classified as a “collection”. It’s a hoard, and he needs professional help."

From the blurb at least, it seems I and several others around here might feel a slight kinship with the book hoarder ;)
I don't know about hoarders being hot. Books are one thing. But I know several hoarders and I've seen the TV show. It's sad and very hard to watch, which is why I can't watch it. Usually it also involves 30 cats, at least two of which are dead in a back closet no one's been in for 20 years because they can't get to it.
That being said, Junk looks like a fantastic read all the same. Or maybe it's just that I can understand hoarding books just a bit more than other things?
Though I admit, I am pretty good about getting rid of books if I didn't like them or have that sinking feeling that I'll never get around to reading them.

I really liked Cited to Death, and reading now the sequel, and then over to wattpad. :-)

Google "Collyer brothers" if you really want to freak yourselves out. Both men died in their massive hoard. A photo exists of one brother's body -- crushed, desiccated, and rat-chewed. One of his own booby traps (essentially, a precarious mountain of junk) had crashed down on him and buried him alive.

Yeah, I've run out of book shelf space. Well, I'm almost there. I'm now VERY glad to have a kindle! I'm now wondering why I recently bought all the Nava books used when I could have just bought them on my kindle and saved shelf space for other things. Oh well.
So far, my stacks of books are saved for anything I haven't read and are only on my large coffee table. It's basically the reason I have a coffee table, to stack my TBR piles. And as I need to be able to see the TV above it, the stacks can't get TOO high either. lol.
My manga collection is growing and TMNT just rereleased the original comic books, which I haven't read so I now have to find room for those new collections....

I am going to reread Etiquette & Espionage mostly just because I'm in that kind of a mood. Luckily I've got it on my phone, too.

I may dig out mom's old tattered paperback. I still have it here somewhere... I think.

The price is insane! I wouldn't mind skimming through it again just for the laughs, but not for THAT kind money.

I have never read it, but I FOUND my paperback! Knew exactly where it was, too. The pages are yellow and smell funny and I haven't read a paperback in a few years now... but I can manage.

:-D
Trust me, you don't need a dictionary for Valley of the Dolls.

I just followed your link to Etiquette & Espionage and it looks fun, especially as I love spies. But I see it says it's in the same universe as the Parasol Protectorate and when I checked that I see mentions of vampires etc which are not my thing at all.
So, does Etiquette & Espionage involve vampires etc too?
Modern parenting must be a nightmare, if you need ereaders for your children too! Do your ereaders stand up to both children and the beach?

:-D

I'm sort of a writing/publishing geek. I read more about writing and the publishing industry than I seriously write myself. Lord knows how many writing manuals I've read and enjoyed but never put into practice.
And I like that Josh changed the tagline to "Writing Quality M/M Fiction. :)

There is one vampire in Etiquette and Espionage, but he's a teacher at the school and the only real *impact* he has on the story is that his classes occur at night (in fact, the whole school keeps "society hours").
As far as the kids with the ereaders... well, they never make it on to the beach; I never actually have *time* to read at the beach since we go as a day trip & we have 3 kids (& the occasional friend). & my kids are actually really good about not abusing the privilege. They're pretty much only allowed to use my ereaders when sitting in the car on long-ish drives or sitting in waiting rooms or the like, so no damage thus far.

Thank you! It looked good. It sounds a though you're making some lovely memories for your kids and their friends - their essays on "what I did on my summer vacation" will be marked down for being fantasies!
