What Are you Reading?

Oh I can't stand the taste of coffee. I can tolerate the smell but I don't even really like that either. Pasta though... I LOVE pasta. Almost too much.

Oh yes! That one and Make Do and Mend are my two favorites of his.

I laughed at several moments in Caught! but the squrat wasn't one (I was too busy shuddering at what he thought it was). I'm really enjoying the book. And no, I've never heard of someone putting coleslaw on pizza. I think it was just because he was trying to encourage her to eat salad with it and that was the least salady thing to choose.

What are the five elements? (And is one of them cake?!... ;-))

Good to know! I added it to my list. There are a couple of other books by him that were recommended here so i'm looking forward to "meeting" his writing.

I'm considering getting an espresso maker. The only problem with espresso is that it's over too soon. I like sipping the coffee throughout the morning.

I'm also a coffee addict. I have a small French press which is the size of a mug. I love the fact that it is slightly more manual than other coffee maker.

That sounds promising. Although a story covering ten years is generally not going to work for me.

My theory is to eat very healthy so that I can also eat incredible amounts of chocolate and cakes. I'm not joking.
Anyway about the five elements theory of Chinese cooking, see here:

But it is not as complicated as it sounds, especially if you have some books with recipes ;-). And I don't cook like this all the time.

I enjoyed Caught!. Very cute and there were some LOL moments. :-)
Finished Golden Boy late last night. LOVED every minute of it, plus the realistic ending.
This morning I started The Patron Saint of Lost Dogs. So far, it's really good. Though I didn't realize it was part of a series. It's book one, so at least I'm starting at the beginning! lol.
I'm giving up on The Wind in the Willows. It's very well written, but incredibly boring.
So now I just have to get through the rest of The Odyssey, and I'll be finished with my summer reading. :-) And the nice part is, I'm about half way through it. Listening to Ian McKellen read it to me is sooooo much better than me attempting to read it myself. He's consistent in his pronunciations of the character's names, where I wouldn't be. Plus, his gorgeous voice is wonderful to listen to!

Now and then I buy English children's classics, and that I bought exactly 2 years ago, and I haven't read it yet.
I've just ordered something which could become a classic

Just a hint: there are two princes and a princess, and none of the princes will marry the princess in the end ;-)).

That is a great theory! :-) Thank you for the link. It looks very healthy. I eat mostly vegan so those combinations are quite familiar to me. It's important to diversify but i rarely have the patience for it...mostly i just stick to a few things i like. (that includes chocolate :-))

I loved it. All of it. Sooner or later I might write a real review to say exactly what I loved ;-).
BTW I don't think I could have liked it if I had heard it before reading it. Are you doing this?

Yes. It's one of the books that I knew I should read but couldn't convince myself to do. So I went for the audio (which wasn't exactly easy to come by around here because of copyright issues for the original). Then it still took me half a year to finally start it.
I like it so far. :-)

Thank you for reminding me of this one, Alison! And I'm glad to hear you and Marge liked it so much.

I might do that one too, I did Josh' Petit Morts in audio and am now reading Jordan's, but I need to rest my eyes soon

I loved it too :)

I loved it also, but I read it first and heard it then.

I will read it tonight, you have made me curious.

I second the recommendation!

Then I'm doing alright!

I liked Stage Whispers but it did drag on a bit for me.

And there's an audiobook. ::adds to wish list::

I loved Harvey's character. :-)

I think i'll give it another try. I read a couple of pages and didn't get into it, but maybe it was not the right time, since i usually do enjoy JL Merrow's stories.

I own all the ebooks but haven't read them yet. :-)
The audio book is tempting - it's the same narrator as Boystown. He's pretty good.

I have to be prepared in order to read a British author, especially one like JL Merrow or Josephine Myles that take the slang and turn it up to 11 sometimes. I gave to get into the mindset so that it flows... ;)

Because the POV is a character who is a very precise primary school teacher, his English isn't too slangy. Mind you, some of his pupils (and some of their parents) speak very basic English, so you do need to tune into that.
Three recently read books that I loved:
J.L. Merrow's Caught! — Laughing out loud!
Celeste Spettro's Art Criticism — More photography!
K.Z. Snow's Resurrection Man — K.Z.'s writing really deserves way more attention. She writes things no one else seems to see in quite that way. A lovely, poetic, surprising book.

I am now slowly making my way through Julie Bozza's The Definitive Albert J. Sterne which is quite long and the paperback version also contains the stories from Albert J. Sterne - Future Bright, Past Imperfect so heavy too but it is such a great story, a bit like Silence of the Lambs. I think this is my favourite from all the books I have read from Julie so far and definitely one of my favourites this year. At the same time I am also dipping into John Tristan The Sheltered City and Caught.
We have a public holiday tomorrow so it is a great time for some reading.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. And thank you for sharing your thoughts about Resurrection Man -- I haven't read that one yet, but I certainly will ASAP.

I went and downloaded it immediately, thank you for the recommendation.

I've got it as well, but I keep being distracted by other books. K.Z. is a good writer.

I really enjoyed [book:Resurrection Man, too.
Art Criticism looks good - added to my TBR. Thanks!
ETA: Not sure what is up with the formatting. GR is being screwy again. ;-)
I am reading Carolyn Hart right now. I honestly don't know which one, I just know I am enjoying a mystery that does not depend on two guys getting it on. ;-)

I think they should revoke his Italian citizenship ;-)
*says the Italian who doesn't drink coffee*"
I'm pretty sure he could give up pizza before coffee. :-)
I'm not really an espresso fan, but I had to drink SO much espresso the first time we went to Italy because I didn't want to be rude and turn down coffee at every home we visited. ;-) I do love my American coffee (or "hot water" as Italians call it).
