I think for me the first did better as a re-read. The first time I read it (a few years ago?) it was a little slow for me too, and the second book kinda made me mad, so I didn't continue the series. But recently the books were made available for review, so I dug in and found out I liked the MCs better, and their relationship as well as the bits of humor worked for me.

There are a lot of details in the books, and I enjoy the culture stuff with the Hawaiian and the Native American background, as well as the Pacific Northwest aspect. This time around I really loved it!

I loved Glitterland. I have a wonderful colleague who reminds me of Darien and my colleague is an Essex lad too but without the accent. Unfortunately my colleague doesn't like gay romance although he is gay and romantic himself.

I liked Tigers & Devils okay but not nearly as much as a lot of people seem to.

I finished Maybe This Time. It was pretty good, not terribly original, but nice and I liked the MCs. Let us know how you like No Such Thing.

I started Get What You Need. It's okay so far, but I'm only at 22% and I think there have been at least 3 sex scenes already. More plot and character development would be nice. ;-)

I really enjoyed Tigers and Devils and the sequel Tigerland. I hope you enjoy it.

Ije the Devourer of Books | 1994 comments I am reading Blood on the Ice by Katriena Knights and I am really enjoying it. It has ice hockey playing vampires and the way in which it portrays vampires as being part of contemporary society is really enjoyable. I haven't read anything by this author before so I will definitely check out any mm she writes in the future.

Anne | 6816 comments I am reading A Broken Vessel the second bokk of the Julian Kestrel series that was recommended here a while ago. I am into mysteries lately, including the two by Robert Galbraith aka known as J.K. Rowling and Think of England. In between reading (and working of course) I am hemming curtains for my son and listening to Death of a Pirate King. All in all, very satisfactory :)

Still reading Sword of the Samurai. It's well researched, competently written.

Started Rafe Haze's The Next and read a bit more on...blanking now. The one about the disabled writer and the sex therapist.

I am restless in my reading right now.

Eli Easton's The Mating of Michael. I read it earlier this week and enjoyed it... more than its title. When I first saw it I thought it was a shifter tale. : )

I'm also all over the place with my reading this week. I'm midway through two books and rereading others randomly: What's this one about? Is it the one where...? Oh no, this is... (avoiding gross receipts tax reports).

HJ | 3603 comments I've just re-read Conduct Unbecoming by L.A. Witt and have started General Misconduct, which isn't exactly a sequel but has some of the same people as the first book and is set in the same location -- Okinawa, Japan. LA Witt wrote the first book while she was living there (her husband was posted to an American base there), and the island is the third main character in each book. She explored its ancient castles and lovely scenery, including the fabulous snorkelling, and there must have been a risk that the setting would overwhelm the stories. But she gets the balance right, and the very fact that the sites are quiet and very rarely visited by the Americans posted there is an important element in the books (her main characters can't afford to be seen together and so love the peace and privacy).

We can thank the fact that her husband was posted to Okinawa, where it was impossible for Lori to work, for her becoming an author. I do recommend these two books, and many others by her.

HJ | 3603 comments Susinok wrote: "LA Witt is headed to Spain with her husband for a posting next. Won't that provide some interesting settings for her."

Yes, they're going to be not far from Cadiz. I think one reason I found Okinawa interesting is that it seems to be so unlike anywhere I've ever been. I also hadn't appreciated how hot and humid it is, which is a bit stupid of me when I actually stop to think about its latitude. I also hadn't realised how far away it is from the rest of Japan; it's way down south-west.

Well, after nearly a month of reading one chapter a day, I finally finished Wilfred Owen's biography. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though it was a slow read. And when I got to the end, I didn't know what to do with myself. Wilfred was gone. But at least I didn't cry. Lol.

I ended up cleaning out my book collection, mainly because Wilfred had lost his previous shelf space and I had to get it back! So, I cleaned out some non-fic and then moved on to the 100 or so unread books on my coffee table, and then did a cleaning of my fiction shelves. It took my four hours, I skipped dinner until I finished at about midnight. But, I do feel much better about the amount of unread books at least.

When I get time, I'll continue to go through the unread ones, actually reading the first page or two to be really sure I want to keep them.

I like organizing books too much. Lol. :-)

Oh the pressure! Her style is very direct, and she does sexual tension and first person point of view very well.

For romance, Where Nerves End is the first of the shared world Tucker Springs novels. It's very well done.

Cover Me, Search Me, and Trust Me is her cop series. I enjoyed them quite a bit. They were written in 2010, so not her most recent work.

Her most recent collaboration with Aleks was Hostile Ground, another book with cops. I loved this one.

Josh, I'll be right over, soon as I finish going through my unread piles. I've discovered that I really do need to read a few pages to make a better decision. Aka: to help me weed out more books. I'm being very picky because I WANT to clean off my coffee table. And some books, while recommended to me, will be going away just because I know it'll take me forever to get around to them. I'll borrow nicer copies from the library when I get there. Some of these are grosser than I realized.

The fun part will be lugging them back to the library as I don't have a car. *sigh*

But when it's all done, I'm gonna feel so much better!

Looks like it is Book 3 in the Cadeleonian Series --
Champion of the Scarlet Wolf Book One. There will be 2 Champion of the Scarlet Wolf books?

I love Where Nerves End but her cop series you mention? I tried to read the first one but I just couldn't. Really did not appeal to me and I thought it was very chaotic.

Condust unbecoming I thought was also great. I really loved it. I love when she writes these low key stories, that's where I think she does her best work. Other's from her I also love are A.J.'s Angel and For The Living.

Honorable mentions would be Rules of Engagement, The Distance Between Us and Nine-Tenths of the Law

Champion of the Scarlet Wolf Book One is the story of Elezar. Ginn published an extensive excerpt somewhere, but at the moment I don't find it.

I really like all the Marie Sexton I've read too, except for Song of Oestend. I couldn't get into that one.

And Heidi Cullinan. Not perfect but I usually connect with her characters.
