I read the first three. I thought they were clever. So if I'm in the right mood for that sort of cerebral amusement, they work. But given that it's been years since I read the last one, I guess I'm not often in that mood.

All his series and standalones are very different. The Abhorsen fantasy series is one of the best i've ever read, but i didn't like any of the other ones i've tried, so i know he has wonderful potential, which is why i keep trying.

I have lost track of the Pern books some many books back. I'm not that excited about Todd's stories and the powers he's given the dragons, so I've mostly stuck to the main books Anne wrote in the 70s and 80s and just leave it at that.

I prefer Anne's books as well, but I WILL finish them all, eventually :p

My two favourites are The White Dragon (I adore Ruth, he's the best dragon ever) and All the Weyr's of Pern

I loved the first three, Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and The White Dragon. I also loved the Harper Hall trilogy.

Also The Harper of Pern was excellent, Robinton's story.

I'm pretty sure I have She's the Man but haven't yet watched it. I'm kind of a sucker for those "modernized" classics that came out when I was in my teens/20s, like Clueless and 10 Things I Hate About You.

Especially now that I'm rewatching them with my own teenage daughter.

A good YA series that deals with this trope, at least in the first book is Bloody Jack: Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary "Jacky" Faber, Ship's Boy. I loved this great adventure, though I have yet to read the second book. Bad me, I know. lol.

When I was a kid, I wanted to read the Pern books. But I had no idea where to start, so I never did. They were just so overwhelming to me as a newbie.

But if that's too daunting I recommend Dragonflight, The Harper Hall trilogy, The White Dragon, All the Weyrs of Pern and The Skies of Pern, that'll give you most of the storyline in the original series

I think I never read them in order. I read what the library had and when the books appeared on the shelves. I guess they mostly came there by donations so they never had the complete set...

I finished FayJay's The Student Prince this morning and I found it to be ridiculously entertaining. It was a fun, light read and I really enjoyed it. It's been sitting on my Kindle for at least a year and I finally had a look at it the other day and I'm glad I did. Really fun stuff.

It's one of the books I really like to recommend to those who like historical adventure. Or just adventure. She's about 12, I think, and stuck on a ship with no other females around, trying to figure out what's going on with her body, while at the same time she's in a swashbuckling adventure.

I laughed so many times reading it. Despite any flaws it might have writing-wise it's just a great, fun story. :-)
And it made me discover St. Andrews in a totally different way than I would have without reading it before my visit. I was expecting dragon and wizard sightings on every corner. :-D

Right! Yes! In spite of all the flaws, it was so much fun. It was so entertaining that I didn't care about the flaws. I spent a cold day in St. Andrews years ago and I found I remembered quite a lot while I was reading. Lovely town.

That's one of my favorites - so much fun. I really enjoyed the audio version, too. Very British and the humor really comes through since she reads it herself. :)

Saw this Favorite Son new release from a review blog I follow, I was very interested reading the blurb, but funny enough, I feel as if all the (positive) reviews was trying to put me off reading it - shouting "This is NOT a romance", "The relationship is NOT the focus of the story"...

While these might be all true... but somehow I find such reviews a bit.. err... off-putting.

I am reading JP Barnaby's A Heart for Robbie. The main character has a baby via surrogate which has a heart condition which requires transplant.

I wondered if it would mess with me since I went through a liver transplant with my husband, but no. There's enough hope and humor mixed in that it's going well.

I gave up on The Eyre Affair. I just couldn't get into it, even halfway through it. I think the problem is that the story seems to be all over the place and it doesn't open with Jane's kidnapping like I thought it would. Plus, the partial historical aspects didn't do it for me either.

From what I gather, you either love this book or you don't. And I have friends on both sides. *sigh* I hate giving up on what I thought was going to be very good.

Developed quite the love/hate relationship with Nick Nowak but damn I couldn't stop reading this series until I finished the last one.
