I liked the early books but stopped reading them after a while. The TV series was well cast and well done.

And I really do think the book would have benefited from some good editing. :-)
Harper Fox has confirmed that Kitto, book four in her Tyack & Frayne series, has been uploaded to Amazon so should appear there tomorrow. I can't see it yet, so I suspect it's their policy of not showing self-published books until they're actually published. Happy Solstice for tomorrow!

Oh awesome! Looking forward to Tyack & Kitto! I also finished The Art of Breathing. Now I'm reading Sam and Aaron, though I'm almost done.

Valerie C wrote: "I have the first one on my Kindle but haven't read it yet. Has she said how many there will be in the series? Any cliffhangers or do they stand alone? ..."No cliffhangers. They mostly stand alone but with the relationship developing during the series.

I just found an author that had stopped writing in the late 90's. She writes about a female private detective. She is the first one I ever read that really was a thug. I loved it. It was so female empowering. She is a Canadian author named Eve Zaremba. Another really empowering author who is kind of a thug is Nicola Griffin. Both women are very tough. I am jealous.

WOW. Those are some amazing pictures, Sus. So clear. I love the way you see things too. They are great! Beauty and character in the moment. 8)

Wonderful pictures. That pale moon, wow and a squirrel, too. Thank you so much.

Wonderful! I can't believe how beautiful the place is (and how well you photographed it). I couldn't resist looking at the lovely photos of roses and other plants in your garden, too.

I like your pictures a lot. I'm living in the most busy part of a city since ever. So I love pictures of landscapes, flowers and animals. Thank you!

Wow, the colours are amazing!
Aw thanks everyone! I thought it was rather difficult to make a pile of rocks exciting. Those parks were definitely the best part of the trip. I will do back there someday to take more pictures. I only got through about half of the Valley of Fire.

Thanks! I may read it next, after I finish or decide to DNF a few in my currently reading pile.
And thanks for sharing your beautiful photos. I haven't seen much of the western states so this is very enjoyable. :)

I wondered about them. Do you know how old they are, Loretta and Susinok?

I can totally empathize with preferring to be out in that desert rather than in the city and casinos. : )

The park literature says that the petroglyphs might have been made by the Anasazi who were in the area in 300 B.C. There are other petroglyphs in the Great Basin State Park nearby which are thought to be 13,000 to 15,000 years old. Before the ice age.

Fascinating.

Susinok wrote: "The park literature says that the petroglyphs might have been made by the Anasazi who were in the area in 300 B.C. There are other petroglyphs in the Great Basin State Park nearby which are thought..."Thank you. Does the literature say what the climate was like in 300BC?
300BC was too recent to be part of any ice age, so the climate was probably similar to what it is now.The Great Basin area was dry then flooded then dry again. I bet the Valley of Fire was in a similar situation. Some of that rock is clearly water-eroded. I think the glyphs date back further then 300 BC, more like the 13,000 BC year mark. 300 BC just seems entirely too recent (Roman Empire). The Anasazi may have lived in the area at that time, but there were people all over the place before then.
There are a number of interesting websites discussing the Ancestral Pueblo People (Anasazi). There's an explanation of the change in usage of that term on this website, and also an interesting article from the 1990s discussing how theories (predominately climate change) about the abandonment of major APP sites changed and were/are still being argued.

Ok so the NM glyphs are 400 to 800 years old, so maybe the Nevada ones are 300 BC as they said.

I didn't think about us being in such "close" (in Southwestern terms). Let me know if you're ever heading out this way.

You can totally tell the author Meg Perry is a Lanyon fan. She's had multiple shout-outs to Adrien English (and his bookshop, since her series is set in LA) and this volume included another, a reference to a series a character was reading about a Shakespearean actor who solves mysteries written by a local bookshop owner. :-)."
I'd read the first Jamie Brodie book back in February, but wasn't inclined to jump right into the series. Thanks to your mentions and KC's note that the books are very reasonably priced now, I snatched up the others and read all five over the past week. I'm on a series binge this summer. : ) I have to admit that I've kind of wanted to slap Jamie several times. He's more than a bit OCD and self-absorbed, but also smart and caring. Yes, can be described as cozies and often do read like Jamie's lists.
P.S. I loved your review of Psyched to Death!

I am currently reading Last Night I Sang to the Monster. It's not a romance, but so powerful and sad. I had trouble stopping reading this morning to go to work, very captivating.
I just finished Howtown. I think it's the best of the first three books. I can't believe it's over, really.
My next book is Man O' War by Dorothy Ours, I believe. This is my first non-fic for summer reading.

I loved the Reginald Hill Dalziel and Pascoe books. I began reading them back in the 1980s, then somehow missed the last two until recently. Strangely, I missed the BBC series altogether, not sure why that was. Has anyone else seen it?
