The Boyfriend
question
Really? Glaring errors!
First of all, those escorts who are depicted as being smart, savvy women. Why on earth would they be giving out their HOME ADDRESSES to clients they don't even know? Second of all, The Broker depositing thousands of dollars into various accounts of The Boyfriend. No mention of the risk that banks will report to the IRS if you deposit more than $10k into your account!! These were regular, USA bank accounts. If I know this, surely Mr. Perry must know this. Third, how in the heck do the investigators know that The Broker was tortured after what had to be a pretty major fire inside his house? He was burned to a crisp! Why was there even evidence left...computers? Please!
Very disappointing.
Very disappointing.
I agree with this review wholeheartedly. It felt as if Perry grew lazy with the research and writing, and that lack of effort definitely came across to readers. I am a fan of Perry's earlier books, especially the Jane Whitefield series...but this one was poorly written and poorly executed.
I felt the last third of the book was really poorly written. Joey changed his character completely. Perry wrote that part as if it were a Jane Whitefield book all of a sudden. And the girl! Wasn't he staying with these call girls out of convenience? Why keep this last girl with him? And why was she suddenly afraid of him - didn't seem like he did anything to frighten her, other than act very UNlike the lawyer he said he was. Just full of holes, and very disappointing as the beginning was very promising!
I liked how Perry got into the mind of a sociopath, esp. in Joey's back story. But I agree with the above comments -- nobody knew who the Broker was, but the Mexican guys found him right away? And after Joey searches Holcomb's house for the info. on the Broker, he then realizes where Holcomb hid it? If Joey practically lived with Holcomb, why didn't he go there first? And the ending was just too pat -- Till finds him in the last three pages (or so). Kind of disappointed.
