Chris | 13 comments Looking for a specific book that saw in college campus bookstore...only problem is I don't remember title or author. Book came out in middle of 2007 or 2008. Has a hardcover dominated by red color, can't remember much else about the cover. Plot involves a group of travelers heading into a barren/dead wasteland to retrieve an object. Story centers on young character (male, teen in age) of group. If have suggestions as to what this might be please let me know. Been looking for this book for years and drives me crazy that I can't remember and that didn't buy this book in the first place! Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks for the guess, but the young character was male and more of a teen in age. Ill add that into the post to make it more clear

Did you check back with the bookstore? Was it required reading for a class? If so, the prof might still have it on "required reading" list and it might still be available there.

message 6: by Chris (new)

Chris | 13 comments Sadly yes I checked back with the bookstore, but it has been a few years and it was not part of a required reading for any class so it was not located in the actual section for school books but was in the "for fun" section of the bookstore. But thank you for the suggestions.

Just Deserts Just Deserts by Eric Walters

Chris | 13 comments Yes that is not the one but thanks anyway. One I am looking for had more of a darker fantasy feel to it.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments A few questions that may ring in some memories:

Was the setting contemporary, historical or future time?

Was it set on Earth, a mythical place, parallel world, etc?

Did the travelers know the exact about they were going to retrieve (a crystal blue amulet, for example)? Or, were they uncertain of what the object was precisely?

What obstacles did they encounter? Dragons, hunger, snakes, etc?

Since you didn't get to read the book, you may not have the answer to these. Hopefully, something may stick out.

Chris | 13 comments Yes I didn't read it but I will do my best to answer these questions.
First off the setting was more historical in that there wasn't contemporary modes of travel and it seemed the group would be traveling by caravan.
Also the setting was more of a mythical place and the travelers did know what their were going to retrieve, at least as far as I can remember but I don't remember exactly what the object was.
As for obstacles that I don't know since I didn't read it.
Hopefully some of this will help, I know it is not a lot.

The Prince in Waiting possibly? Sorry, not totally sure that that IS the correct series. Beyond the Burning Lands is actually the book that has them going into the "desert" and, while the travel and all is primitive, that's because of some kind of disaster that has thrown everything back to medieval type levels.

Chris | 13 comments Sorry that's not the one. I am sure that the book was first published around 2007 or 2008. The earliest possible would be fall of 2006. But thanks anyway, it looks like an interesting series to get into.

Meredith (mcgraced) | 81 comments This was published in 2002 (I think), but it sounds like The Last Camel died at Noon by Elizabeth Peters.

Michele | 279 comments The Buried Pyramid by Jane Lindskold maybe? Came out April 2007, group travels into egyptian desert to find a legendary pyramid, late 1890s, group includes young lady and young man.

Keep looking, Chris. We've had books found after years of waiting for that person who will recognize it. Keep bumping this thread every month or so to keep it where fresh eyes will see it.
