Jams Roses (jamesross) | 33 comments Hello all,

So I'm an author and I joined goodreads to help promote my work, obviously (although not shamelessly I assure you), but to also get to know what readers are reading and what's currently hot.

Of course, I enjoy reading myself, but do feel guilty when I lay on the sofa and read a book instead of slaving away on the current work in progress!

I am a father of one. I grew up in Hertfordshire and now live in the south of France, and am doing my best to cope with the nonsense that life insists on throwing at me.

I have a blog that I use to keep my followers (that sounds so arrogant, I know) with upcoming releases and also my general thoughts on writing and life itself.

Here is the link to my blog - http://jamsnroses.wordpress.com/

My books aren't for children - My stories can be filled with sex, violence, deception, drugs and alcohol, but also love, compassion, empathy and humour.

I have two novels that have been available on Amazon for a couple of months now and have received above average reviews which is encouraging. Both books are contemporary crime fiction, with SoaSK being a suspense thrill also.

My latest release, Extremely England, is something different, a satirical and farcical comedy for those who read the tabloids in the UK and decide to laugh and not cry.

More info can be found on my blog, and I hope that there is something there for everyone.

Regards, Jams N. Roses

Just read through your blurbs.

Looks my kind of thing.

Will have to add them to my enormous TBR pile!

I especially like the cover for extremely England.

Did you design it yourself?

Jams Roses (jamesross) | 33 comments Morning Fluffy,
To be added to your TBR pile is an honour! I'm glad you like what you see.
In fact, the Extremely England cover was the only one I didn't do! It was by an old school friend of mine. I have an idea for a second in that series (nothing more than an idea at the moment) Amazing America, which could easily carry on with the same design theme.
I have also asked him to redo the cover for Get Clean, as the current artwork doesn't really catch the naughty twisted thriller side of the story, just the depressing addiction side, which isn't everybody's cup of tea.
I will be promoting Ext Eng for free for 3 days (24th-26th May) for Kindle download and I'll post a thread to let people know then.
Thanks for taking a moment to look at my work :-)

Yes be sure to add a post the the monthly freebie thread then.

Kath | 1233 comments Just started Extremely England - fancied something a little different from what i usually read - for me it is becoming a very visual book and i don't usually "see" what i read much... it's like i am watching it acted out. i also think it reminds me of other things - but i have no idea what it reminds me of cos my memory is so pants... i'm not making much sense here, but i am enjoying it so far!

Jams Roses (jamesross) | 33 comments Hi Kath - It was originally a screenplay I wrote a few years back, so maybe that's why it comes across as quite visual (there were quite a few visual jokes I had to drop). I like the fact you feel like you are watching it being acted out, fingers crossed one day everyone will when it gets snapped up by some indie film company! (I like to dream, clearly...)
I'm glad you are enjoying the book!

Kath | 1233 comments aha - now you have said the magic word "screenplay" i remember what it reminds me a bit of...
joe orton's up against it - a screenplay he wrote for the beatles...

Jams Roses (jamesross) | 33 comments I hadn't heard of 'Up Against It', the biggest influence for 'EE' was definitely Woody Allen, bith his early films and a few of his books (I mean his sense of throwaway humour).
Now and again I'll rewatch Bananas or Take the Money and Run, I'm just a big kid really.

Jim | 21812 comments I certainly like the cover

Jams Roses (jamesross) | 33 comments I wish I could take the credit for it. It is nice and simple yet effective, similar to the story itself, which I do take the credit for!

Jams Roses (jamesross) | 33 comments Good morning, just a quick one... I've had a couple of reviews about the characters in my books not being too likeable, even disgusting. I take full credit for it. Perhaps I've been pushing my books in front of the wrong crowd!

So...

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR POTENTIAL READERS: My books are not family-friendly, Christian stories. If you are easily offended, hate to acknowledge that drug or alcohol abuse exists, are disgusted that sex is more than just a tool for procreation, or can't stand to read the occasional swear word, then save your time and don't read my books. You will not like them. Thank you.

However, if you do have a sense of humour, sometimes struggle to get through the day due to lack of opportunities, or worries over loved ones, or even can't see how you're going to make it through tomorrow, then I'd guess that you'd relate to at least parts of my stories.

'Jams N. Roses' is an author for godless adult readers who haven't lived their lives wrapped up in cotton wool.

Now, that said, have a good day! x

Jams Roses (jamesross) | 33 comments Quick update...

I should have the new artwork for 'Get Clean' within the next week. This is exciting for me as the book has had some excellent reviews, but for some reason hasn't been selling as well as my other 'main' title - So I've revamped the blurb and now with the new cover on the way, hopefully it will be a more attractive proposition for readers. Fingers crossed...

Also, I have a short story that will be free for five days starting Sunday 16th June. 'The Near-Deads' is a creepy, suspense story.

I've just finished the first draft of my latest project, Finding Her Feet, a sad & dramatic story that had me in tears whilst writing some of the chapters. I would call it a 'tragedy', but I think 'drama' is the closest you'll find on genre lists on amazon.

Lastly, I've been playing the 'word relationship' game over at the mystery & suspense group, and am finding it a little addictive.

Ciao for now.
