Mady Klein "Dating, after all, only ends one way: poorly."

The main character, Colin, has been in 19 relationships and all of his girlfriends have been named Katherine. There was one in particular, number 19, that was a very serious relationship. After she broke up with him, he became very sad. His luck with relationships is obviously not very good and he gets discouraged. After Katherine 19 called it off, Colin's friend Hassan decides that they'll go on a road trip to distract Colin. I think the road trip will eventually bring the two friends even closer.

Mady Klein "'There's a word for that, actually. Fetor hepaticus. It happens during late st-' 'Not interesting,' said Hassan."

Colin is known as a child prodigy. He is extremely smart and always rattles off information to people. He sometimes avoids interaction with people and goes off on his own to study. The readers can infer that this could be the reason for the ends of some of his relationships.

Rachel Erlandsen This book is pretty funny. I don't get all of the math references, but I love the footnotes at the bottom of the pages. Also, page 88-89, when Hassan had a 'fat kid asthma attack' made me laugh so hard it hurt!
What do you think of Lindsey?

Drew I've only read an abundance of Katherines, looking for Alaska, and TFIOS and this is my least favorite john green books. DON'T KILL ME!

Heather Each John Green book is a stand alone, so its almost not fair to compare them. I love them all! Looking for Alaska is probably my favorite.

Yesenia This is the first of his books that I've read and it took me a while to warm up to it. In the end, I fell in deep with the story and wanted more. It was funny, sarcastic and it dealt with a lot of things most people can relate to without having to be a genius.

Emma I agree with Yesenia, it took me a while to get into, but in the end I loved it. The math parts confused me (I stink at math), but I think it was a pretty cool concept. The whole time I kept thinking "John Green is a genius. How does he KNOW all this stuff??"

Yesenia So I should read other books by him because they'll only get better? Good to know

Rachel Erlandsen I thought that it was really interesting on page 150 when Lindsey says that she is like a chameleon; that she acts differently around her boyfriend vs around Colin vs around the older people. In relation to Colin, who wants to matter but wants to be himself and matter, Lindsey feels like she doesn't have a 'self.' I found this intriguing.

Kathryn This is my favourite John Green. I loved how different it was from so many other books. The footnotes were a really cool addition and I liked how the maths was just integrated (haha, maths pun) throughout.

Rachel Erlandsen Oh my goodness the part about the wild pig and the hornets nest was really funny! And so was the part on page 156, when Colin yells at the rooster at 4:30 in the morning! I laughed for about 5 minutes after reading the rooster part.
And I felt bad for Hassan when he came upon Katrina cheating on him. And with TOC!!! OMG. Poor Lindsey! I have not found out what Colin and Hassan do about it yet, but I am eager to keep reading!!!

Jazzy-may i read this book recently and i mean surly you would have learnt from the past 19 times that Katherines and Colins don't mix. However Colin was very sweet and it was really nice to see him grow funnier through the book but i have to say Hassan was my favourite character xx
Really funny book would recommend it to anyone xxxx

Alex Colin is like a Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory to me. Except he does want love. If you haven't finished don't keep reading.

....But my heart stopped for a second when I read Lindsey's fake letter to Colin teasing him about "breaking up". I would have been so upset if they did! Out of all the books by Green this one and Will Grayson, Will Grayson are the only ones that seem to have a positive sort of ending.

Rachel Erlandsen Why do you say to not keep reading if people haven't finished? Do you not like the book?

Rachel Erlandsen I thought the ending was really cool. I liked the revelation he had about stories. And how his theorems only explains the past, not the future. And the letter that Lindsey leaves him is funny! I liked that too. But I don't like that the story ends with him still in Gutshot... What about his parents? Have they just fallen off of the face of the earth or something? Does he just stay in Gutshot for the rest of his life, or what?

Rachel Erlandsen Also, what is the deal with Fred Dinzanfar? Was he mentioned prior to time Colin anagrams the Archduke Franz Ferdinand? Because I don't remember Lindsey's great-grandfather being mentioned before, but in the fight scene after Colin gets hurt, he anagrams the Archduke's name, and says 'that's odd'. I must have missed something....

Alex The reason I said not to keep reading referred to my comment. I didn't want to spoil it for anyone especially since I saw ht some comments near the top were done by people not yet finished. No keep reading the book it was good.
