Isn't Dodger a rework of Oliver Twist as well?

message 102: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Ooh, will go check.

Lauren Smith I don't really know the story of Oliver Twist, but this looks more like metafiction, as Dodger actually meets Charles Dickens (and Sweeney Todd).

Lauren Smith Went through my (real) bookshelf and also found this:

The Looking Glass Wars (The Looking Glass Wars, #1) by Frank Beddor

That or a Pratchett looks like the best option.

It's amazing what one can find in your own bookshelf. Barbara would be best to answer the Oliver Twist one, not my strong point either.

This will also work. Peter and the Starcatchers which is a prequel to Peter Pan. I picked up a copy at the library this morning and noticed it when I was putting the books in a pile to go to sleep...

Lauren Smith I just remembered another great book for that task: Railsea by China Mieville. It's a rewrite of Moby Dick, from a different perspective and because it has railways and giant moles rather than an ocean and whales :)

Also, since the characters travel by rail/train, it can be used for that task in the location challenge. Two difficult birds with one stone!

Don't you love it when that happens!

message 110: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I do! I only read it in 2012, but I think I might re-read it to finish those challenge tasks.
