Steelwhisper | 140 comments I'm looking for romance or erotic romance with one partner being a cyborg or robot. I know about Laurann Dohner's books and they are not what I want. Less alpha-maley stuff and something maybe a bit heavier on plot and dystopian 'verses.

Rox | 69 comments Savor Me Slowly (Alien Huntress, #3) by Gena Showalter this book is awesome and the heroine is a cyborg or something . I think it fits what you are looking for .

message 3: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 140 comments Thanks for the suggestion!

However, having an alpha-female instead of an alpha-male doesn't make it any better in my eyes ;) Seriously, this sounds far too much like an action-movie with a female Arnie Schwarzenegger in tungsten steel.

I really dislike the alpha trope.

message 4: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Corrigan (elizabethrcorrigan) I would recommend Artificial Absolutes by Mary Fan by Mary Fan. It's light on the romance but high on the AI and plot. And definitely no alpha males.

Oleander | 94 comments If you like manga I recommend Absolute Boyfriend, Vol. 1 (Absolute Boyfriend, #1) by Yuu Watase series

message 6: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 140 comments Oops, I forgot to mention: no religion and no sarky teenage/YA heroines. And in a romance I prefer not to have brothers around.

I was more looking for some updated The Silver Metal Lover or romantic The Robots of Dawn alike.

message 7: by Rox (new)

Rox | 69 comments I think you are looking for some kind of unicorn XD . I admit that I am curious . Good luck !!!

message 8: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 140 comments Not really. Just a(n erotic) romance with a robot/cyborg which is a bit more literate and less trope-ish than the usual run of action-driven books.

I'll take older recs as well, it needn't be recently written, as long as it's decently written ;)

However, yes, I find the whole genre these days very hard to read. Apart from a few of the still producing older crowd, there seems to be little currently, in general, which doesn't follow the very exact same parameters in this genre. It's a pity. But maybe someone stumbles across this post who has an excellent rec? I'd take fanfic as well, if well-written and not the same-old, same-old.

message 9: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Well I have a ton of cyborg erotic books that I've read and liked. They are

Passion Model

The whole Cyberevolution series starting with Abiogenesis (ignore the awful covers the books are great)

The Iron Duke, more steampunk but he's been modified

C791

Seeing Stars

Those are just a few. I don't have my books delineated by robot/cyborg just sci-fi, but feel free to check that bookshelf for other ones.

message 10: by Arshad (new)

Arshad Ahsanuddin (pactarcanum) Going waaaay back, you might be interested in Piers Anthony's Adept series: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/99..., though it's definitely more scifi/fantasy romance than erotic romance.

message 11: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 140 comments Thanks Carolyn, I added some of those. Also thanks, Arshad, yes, I loved them, read them some time ago :)

How to Lose an Extraterrestrial in 10 Days this is part of a series by Susan Grant. It starts with Your Planet or Mine. The cyborg in this book is having "issues" with his implants, (they are failing) plus there is a look back at some of how he became a cyborg. But I am not totally sure if this meets your criteria, since I'm a tad bit confused.

And with the The Iron Duke recommendation--he is definitely a major Alpha Male. But that's ok, because Mina is an Alpha female and isn't going to put up with anything from him. However, I'm a big Meljean Brook fan, and I enjoyed the series immensely.

I hate the alpha-anything trope. It doesn't matter which gender, I dislike the trope which glorifies behaviour which is at the root of a lot of problems. It irritates me no end. Sorry. ;) I know it is a problem for recs.

message 14: by Heather (new)

Heather Massey (heather_massey) | 7 comments I have some recs for you. I've read all except PARAGON, which is in my TBR pile. IMHO these are stories with non-alpha characters.

THE PHOENIX CODE - Catherine Asaro (I'd start with this one if you haven't read it already)
SUNRISE ALLEY - Catherine Asaro
GAMES OF COMMAND - Linnea Sinclair
PARAGON - Aubrey Watt
BREAK AND ENTER - Aleksandr Voinov & Rachel Haimowitz (m/m; one of the heroes is a cybernetically enhanced)
UNACCEPTABLE RISK - Jeanette Grey (heroine is cybernetically enhanced)
THIS WINTER HEART - P.G. Forte (steampunk--can't say more because of spoilers)
MECHMAN - LJ Garland (fun little space opera story--better than what the cover promises. :))
THE WATCHMAKER'S LADY - Heather Massey (in the interest of full disclosure, that's me! Heroine is an automaton)

Hope that helps!

message 15: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 140 comments Thanks, I got several additions to my TBR pile out of that :)

Steel--I know you said you didn't like the Alpha thing, but I do think you should read the Iron Duke series. I think that only that first book has "true" Alphas in it. Heart of Steel which is book 2, has the 2 leads locking horns a lot--but more because of a difference in view about how things should be done. Heart of Steel and #3 was, I hate to say it, but the one that I enjoyed the least.

message 18: by Bexx (new)

Bexx (fannytitball) | 5 comments The Mad Scientist's Daughter by Cassandra Rose Clarke is a great one! I fell in love instantly with it. And there is also a sequel to the silver metal lover - Metallic Love (Silver Metal Lover, #2) by Tanith Lee if you don't know of it yet.!

message 19: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 140 comments Thanks, Rebecca! I knew there was a sequel and read it. :)

About the other one I'm of two minds at the moment. I want a story which gives the protagonists at least equal attention. This one seems to revolve mostly around the girl, and the android is secondary, as is her relationship with him.

message 20: by Arielle Rae (new)

Arielle Rae Aguilar | 230 comments There is Cinder, but it is a YA. It is still pretty interesting though, and has romance in it.

message 21: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 11 comments cinder and the sequels are great

message 22: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 140 comments Thanks for the rec. I would rather read something more adult than YA. ;)

message 23: by Ashley (last edited Mar 18, 2014 08:52AM) (new)

Ashley | 21 comments Hello, Gorgeous! and drop dead gorgeous! by Mary Janice Davidson

message 24: by Pippa (new)

Pippa DaCosta | 68 comments Try this series: Keeping It Real (Quantum Gravity #1) by Justina Robson

The lead is part robot/cyborg. It all gets a bit surreal the further into the series you go, but it's refreshingly different.

message 25: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 140 comments Thanks for the rec.
