Movie SO did not live up to the book... Read the book if you haven't. It's amazing. Compared to the book the movie was not that great at all.
I have read the book last year so I'm really looking forward to the movie now. But in Germany it isn't coming out until next week.
I've read the book 3 weeks ago. I hated it at first and thought it was extremely boring. But once i got to know who Gatsby really is, i fell in love with the book!! He really is great :D And i'm looking forward to see the movie!
I loved the book... but hated all of the characters. Which was the point, I guess. Since all of them were arrogant and gossipy or always lying and stuff. Which was a main idea of the book. But I didn't even like Nick. He just didn't seem right to me. I did love the story though!
I'm looking forward to watching this year's movie (I've seen the previous two adaptations). The Great Gatsby is surely one of my favorite books. I fell in love with it when I first read it (and I've read 3 more times so far)and each time I re-read it I love it a little more.
I was given this book a while ago but when I first tried to read it I though it was so boring and didn't even get past the first chapter. However, I recently read it and really liked it! There were some parts that I didn't quite understand but overall it was great. I'll have to go see the movie now!
Great read! I loved how all the characters had their own charm and were all flawed. Fitzgerald excels in portraying their humanity in an extraordinary fashion.
So should we watch the movie first so we wont be dissapointed with it? I was planning on reading the book first but now I'm scared lol

the great gatsby is an amazing book. my favourite. Fitzgerald is an amazing writer and he captures the essence of the 1920s so beautifully; the greed, the excess, the belief that anything's possible. I'm a bit scared to see how the movie turns out (not out in the uk until 16th) but I'm sure Baz will do a wonderful job.... even though he's completely messed up the sountrack.
I have to read this book. The movie was an absolute master piece, it was so enriching, and the music is absolutely fabulous.
I read this some time ago and what I remember the most about it is the tragedy of it all. Ah, the things we do for those we fall in love with.
I watched the movie yesterday and it was amazing. It combined everything: romance, tragedy and some humorous elements as well. Leonardo Di Caprio is a great actor and he portrayed Gatsby very well. The costumes and makeup were wonderful as well. I really enjoyed the soundtrack although it is not what you expect it to be. But they made it work and it fits perfectly.
My friend won't stop going on about it; I'm starting to think maybe I should read it now. It doesn't help that Leonardo Di Caprio is playing in it: she can't get enough of him!!!
I didn't like the book and think there are far better books that could be made into movies. Sadly the latest movie is a remake.
Started re-reading Gatsby last night. I am going to see the movie tomorrow, so I need to be finished the book by then. I can't wait to see the movie.

I haven't read the book yet, but I saw the film starring Robert Redford & Mia Farrow years ago and am looking forward to seeing the latest version. It'll be interesting to update myself with it as I remember feeling that Jay and Daisy were rather empty characters (not the acting, but intentionally). It all looked beautiful but I found Daisy superficial and self-absorbed, although it was interesting to watch Gatsby with his rose tinted glasses. All very sad. So yes, off to the cinema soon to watch Luhrmann's version, plus Leonardo Di Caprio will be great, as always :)
Reading it now and it is different!!! I plan to finish it but it is one of those books that my literature teacher would make me read and take a test on!!!! I respect the classics but wow
I'm currently reading the book. As soon as I finish it, I'm going to see the movie. I'm especially looking forward to soundtrack.
I love this book. It is b far one of the best books I've ever read in school.
Abby I agree, definitely one of the best books I've had to read for school. I'm glad I did, because if it wasn't required reading, I probably would have never read it. I love the book! :)
Read the book before seeing the movie, and it's one of the few times you will ever hear me say that I preferred the film version!
