I just got my nook today and I have it plugged into the computer right now it has been on for 3 hours. I have tried to turn it on and it will not. is that normal ? does it have to be charged for the 3 and 1/2 before it will turn on?

Jeanine (jjelizalde) If the battery is low, it won't turn on. (Found that out the hard way...)

Cherie (crobins0) The charging rate on the computer via uSB is slower than with the cable into an AC outlet.
Your Nook should have been charged, but be patient. It should turn on soon as it gets enough charge.

I advise you to purchase the AC charger to charge your NST. It makes you much more mobile with your Nook, not having to depend on the computer.

Jeanine (jjelizalde) I absolutely agree with Cherie. I charge my Nook with my phone charger plugged into the wall. It charges much quicker than from the computer.

Thera Lewis (thera1) | 124 comments My NST is my favorite toy. But charging it on the computer takes almost twice as long than charging it via wall outlet.
Have you ejected it from your computer and tried turning it on then? Sometimes when I plug any gadget into my computer, it doesn't work until I eject and unplug it.

my nook never charged and the screen never changed to the charging screen. I have taken it back and got another one and it is charging correctly. thank you everyone for your help.

Katya | 23 comments Tabitha...good choice to bring it back. B&N are usually really good in helping out that way. I use the usb port on my computer and it is fast. 46% to 93% in about a half hour...40 minutes.

Jeanine (jjelizalde) At least the problem is solved. A shame you had to go to such lengths. Enjoy it now that it works.

I use my Sony phone charger and it works just fine. About $15.00 at Walmart a few months ago so it may cost as much now as buying from B&N. So glad you were close enough to go to the store. When I had to send my first Nook back, I missed it even though it was only a few days.
