Jeff It was an experimental fiction book that had no punctuation (it was the literary equivalent of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music). I picked it up new at a chain book store in Manhattan circa 86-88. Any help in finding the title and author would be appreciated. I'm not going to read it again (the horror). I just want to add it to my Goodreads "Read" list and if I can locate it again, give it away to unsuspecting friends and family.

This fits the descriptor of "experimental language" and is enjoyable for its play with language and literary styles: Exercises in Style

Jeff Ficie and Kate,

Thank you both for your replies.

Both of these books sound intriguing but, alas, no, neither one is the one. This book was new at the time (late '80's) and I picked it up as a paperback and I believe the author was an American.

I'm going to move this up to the Unsolved folder. You are looking for a particular book, and the section you're posted in now is suitable when a person is looking for a type of book.

Good luck! I'm intrigued in your book.

Gas Station by Joseph Torra?

Colleen, if it had a plot, it is something I can't remember. I believe it took place in suburbia somewhere, beyond that and what I've listed, I've got nothing. :(

Kris,

This book was written in the late '80's. Gas Station, according to Goodreads, was published in the '90's.

Kate,

Thanks for trying. I wish I could come up with more information.

Maybe try this Listopia, "Style as Text:"
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

and also look at books tagged "experimental:"

Jeff Thanks for the information, Lobster Girl. I still haven't figured it out.

Jeff, are you still looking for this?

Ayshe | 4721 comments Requiem for a Dream and How It Is appear to have no punctuation, but they were also not quite new at the time you remember buying it.
