A bit slow?

Though overall I liked both Deborah's books. Am I the only one to find these a bit slow? Great characters, but at times a tedious read.

Yes, I agree. I just read A Discovery of Witches. I enjoyed it very much but it was way too long. It is at least 150 pages too long. Deborah Harkness is obviously a scholar and got carried away with some of the long drawn out scenes in the book. I did love reading this book though. Matthhew Clairmont is a charmer.

While I don't disagree that this is a long book, I like the pacing. Diana has so very much to learn about herself that I think I prefer having too much information, too much description, than too little. A scholar who can "show" rather than merely "tell" is not necessarily a common find, and I think Dr. Harkness does a very good job of showing the changes Diana goes through in this book.

It takes a bit of sticking with but well worth it. Am currently reading the follow up which is still a slow start but a great read.
