Barry Sullivan | 3 comments Hi All,
I am Barry & spend most of my time in Colorado. Majored in history
in college, & taught it as a graduate teaching assistant.

I primarily read well-crafted fiction but always return to history.
I am looking forward to your points of view and maybe occasionally offering mine. Happy Holidays!

Bryan Craig Welcome, Barry. Glad to hear history always lures you in. It does for me.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

Take a few moments to read the orientation:

Mau VanDuren My name is Mau VanDuren. In order to understand the present one has to know history. I am a retired information specialist with a longstanding interest in history. My history started in the Netherlands. Development work took me to Africa after which a Peace Corps volunteer took me to America. My main interest is American history primarily with regard to governance and the liberties we enjoy. What were their origins, who was involved, and what were the circumstances these movers and shakers were trying to improve upon. Since my retirement from international work I have been active in political campaigning, have been president of a theater board, and am running our neighborhood listserv. I am looking forward to exploring our history with equally enthusiastic and curiosity motivated people here and examine the lessons we may be able to learn from it. Thanks for allowing me in.

John Harvard (johnharvard) | 1 comments Hello, I am a relative newbie to history...I picked up an interest of history (particularly biographies) over the last five years or so after realizing how little I knew about the history of my adopted country (the United States) where I have been living for nearly two decades now....Reading US history helped give me a perspective on current affairs and also sparked a general interest in history given that my college education was in one of the most staid fields possible, accounting, where I learned everything of a technical nature but did not learn any of the main causes and correlations between various events in the world and the personalities driving them. This late appreciation of history has set me down a path of trying to understand the background, events and personalities behind key events in mankind and I feel that in my attempt to gain an understanding of them I have come to better understand our world situation today both on a macro and micro level. Look forward to enjoying interactions with this group and thank you for admitting me.
