Jill H. (bucs1960) Hello and welcome Sumit.....we have many members from beautiful India. We are looking forward to your "two cents" (smile)

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Katheryn | 1 comments Hello everybody! My name is Katheryn and I live in Southern California (in suburban Los Angeles, to be more precise). Ever since I was a little girl, history has intrigued me. British and French history were my earliest loves. However, I minored in history and Latin American Studies as an undergraduate and went to grad school in Latin American Studies, where I specialized in 20th-century Brazilian history and literature. Mostly for genealogical reasons, Canadian history -- especially of Acadia and Quebec -- also fascinates me. If I had the chance to go to grad school again, I think that I would specialize in 20th-century French social history, especially concerning women and the Catholic Church. Unfortunately, for various reasons (health and finances foremost among them), returning to grad school seems to be a pipe dream unless I win big in the lottery :-)

Schmerguls | 1 comments My name is Dewie. I live in Sioux City, Iowa. I have a list of all the books I have read, starting with the first books I read after I learned to read. The one I added the day before yesterday was number 5193. Each year since 1944 I have picked the best book I read that year. I have lots of interests but a few that come immediately to mind are World War One, papal history, ante-bellum American history (period from 1815 to 1861), British parliamentary history (1603 to preent), French history since 1789, royal biography, Antarctic exploration, American political history, etc.

Ionuţ Vrânceanu | 1 comments Greetings everyone! I'm Ionut (24 age), I'm from Brasov, Romania. I have a master degree in economics. Thanks for accepting my request and letting me join this group. I really enjoy reading books about history and economics(with a good connexion to history). Few of the books I've read about history are ancient history, medieval and especially the two world wars, and my favoured subjects are about Roman Empire, The ancient Greek cities and Medieval Europe, the Crusades, Teutonic Order and general military history from ancient through to the twentieth centuries.

I'm here to listen, learn more about World History. I am looking specifically recommendations about good history books to read.

message 4167: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1 comments Greetings! I am Legacy and I absolutely fancy history. It is, indeed, my favorite of all subjects. I enjoy reading about history, predominately American history. However, I am, as well, profoundly fascinated by all of world history. I enjoy connecting the lasting legacies of people, inventions, and events to today. I believe history is the most important subject, despite my profound love for mathematics, science, and literature. I am excited and eager to join this group and learn of new books to read and discuss books in which I have read.

My focus was on post WWII US foreign policy. After graduation, I spent 17 years working in a used bookstore where I was able to read anything I could get my hands on! I currently work in the IT field. While I still read quite a lot, not nearly as much as my years in the bookstore.

Research into my family genealogy has rekindled my love of history, especially social and economic evolution. Recently I have been captivated by the Great War era and my reading has been focused there in books, pamphlets and newspapers of the time. Currently I am researching the years between the wars, concentrating on Germany, Britain and France, and I would be grateful of any recommendations for this period. Many thanks.

Ariel (arielmat) I'm Ariel, born in Argentina, living now in Israel.

Guided by "those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it", I find knowing our history as one of the most important things a man (or woman) should do in order to understand and make our world a better place.

Trying to avoid dry data history books, I've been fascinated by historical fiction books as a mean of learning and feeling.

A window to another time, real people that struggled, loved and hated. As we do, but in another time.

I'm happy to join this group to explore the past together.

My interest went naturally to Utopian communities, transcendentalists, and bohemians. Now it's broader, an interest in war and why humans seem to love war. I'm also interested in cultural and religious history, and the histories of social movements and rebellions. And, of course, in following the money…

Hi. My name is Joyce and I have a great love for traveling, and music that has taken me from my home in Seattle to Ireland, Peru, Russia, and India to do research and make friends. My singing group performs in 20 languages and we are always on the lookout for new pieces from different eras - such as Ladino from Spain, Egyptian Coptic, Afro-Cuban folk and religious piece, etc. I am also researching the 'Convivencia' period in Spain for a new project.

I look forward to exploring the many riches here.

Warm regards,

Bryan Craig Hi Ariel. We do some historical fiction now and again. Here is our topic:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Zach Hi, I'm Zach. I'm a librarian in a law office, and have a fairly eclectic taste in books. I read a lot of SFF, and a lot of religious history specifically, but I'm also interested in Queer lit and Queer studies and a broad array of pop culture topics.

Some historians I enjoy include:
Deborah E. Lipstadt Deborah E. Lipstadt
John Boswell John Boswell
Jennifer Larson
Domino Renée Pérez
Clare Cushman

Hi, my name is Michael, I live in a small town on the east coast of England. I currently work as a teaching assistant. My fondness for history (which is very recent) has led me here - I would like to learn more, meet new people, and discover new books to read. :)
