Meg | 1 comments Hello. Meg from the San Francisco Bay Area here. Love history and have been focusing on WW I and WW II of late. Also interested in presidential and world leader biographies. I am very excited by the idea of this history group and look forward to the new ideas and recommendations this forum can offer.

Jill H. (bucs1960) Welcome, Meg, from beautiful San Francisco. You have several favorite eras of history, so let me get you started with our link to The First World War.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

AB | 1 comments Hi all, my name is Ailis. I'm a 21 year old law graduate. I joined this group because I'm really interested in 19th and 20th century history, mostly focussing on World War One and two. However I'm also interested in the history of Russia, preferably during the cold way era and afterwards. I also enjoy reading about Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Cambodian history, again mostly modern history such as the 19th and 20th century. I'm returning home from China for the second time next week and would really appreciate some suggestions of books about recent Chinese history, thank you in advance.

Theresa Hi, I am Theresa Adams, from the wheatlands of SE Washington state. I have a microbiology degee -- so books of the history of medicine and the great cholera outbreak of London in the 1850s especially amuse me. Having recently read the biography Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy by Eric Metaxas, I'd like to learn more about German history. Bonhoeffer was quite inspiring.

my name is Will and I hail from Sacramento, California. I studied European history at UC San Diego and graduated in 2010. I focused on politics and diplomacy. I will be starting my masters at Cambridge fall of 2014 in Modern European History with a focus on German Colonialism. I plan to go on to get my Doctorate. I have been passionate about history since I was young when it began with an interest I military history and grew from there.

I spent a year living in Germany where I became fluent in German.

I look forward to some good discussions and recommendations from this group.

Sincerely,

Will

Eric Layton (vtel57) | 12 comments Good Afternoon (it's after noon somewhere ;) ),

My name is Eric. I live in Tampa, Florida, USA. My main interest is military history. However, I am interested in all aspects of history.

I'm an avid reader in these areas and have been since childhood. I'm not sure from where my interest originally sparked. It was probably inspired by my mother's interest in her ancestry and my father's interest in WWII, which he participated in as a sailor in the U.S. Navy.

I'm looking forward to interesting intercourse here in this group. Thanks for having me.

Regards,

~Eric

Lacey Holley | 8 comments My name is Lacey, from Ripley, Mississippi. I have a master's degree in medieval history from the University of Mississippi. But I'm interested in just about all types of history.

I got my start in history from listening to the family stories and my dad giving me a JFK half dollar and telling me not to spend it. A portrait of JFK now hangs in my home office.

I'm looking forward to interacting with the group.

Melissa Cartee hi! I'm Melissa and I'm from South Carolina. I feel awkward having read some of the other people's introductions. I am not an aficionado in history. my love has just come recently. I thought my journey may help if I am in a group with knowledgeable people. I hope that is OK. I love old war stories and ancient history especially. I hope it is OK I've joined. I'm really hoping to broaden my knowledge and my new love. Thanks!

message 4073: by Eric (new)

Eric Layton (vtel57) | 12 comments I'm sure everyone will love having you onboard, Melissa. I don't believe there's any requirement here that you be an expert in any form in order to participate. History should be a continuous learning experience for us all. I'm no expert either; just a lifelong hobbyist in History, you might say.

Regards,

~Eric

(Bologna's University) I do like history because I think we all are the result of our personal story, our family's story and the world story. I think the main problem with history is that nobody seem to learn from the past so we are likely to do always the some mistakes. Sorry for my awful English! Maria Rita

Naz Hassan (ironsheik) Hi guys. My name is Naz Hassan. Joined this club because I'm interested in reading Historical fiction and history books.

Besides reading, I like making things (apps, websites, games) and enjoy playing/watching soccer.

I also love teaching/lecturing on the things I learn.

Bryan Craig Hello Naz. Browse around and see what we have to offer.

This is how a book should look:

The Passage of Power (The Years of Lyndon Johnson, #4) by Robert A. Caro by Robert A. Caro Robert A. Caro
