Bryan Craig Welcome, Brooke. Glad you could join us and good luck on your certification.

We have an American Civil War topic:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

The Passage of Power (The Years of Lyndon Johnson, #4) by Robert A. Caro by Robert A. Caro Robert A. Caro

My name is Barbara Hawkins. I just retired after years of being a civil engineer and have time to do the things I have always enjoyed. I love reading about any period in history, both non-fiction and historical-fiction. I think I have read all of Bernard Cornwall's books, which start at Stonehenge through pre-Viking England, to Sharpe's battles under the British Empire, and the US Civil War. I also have dipped into archaeological studies in MesoAmerica and Asia Minor. I look forward to being a member of the History Book Club at Goodreads.

Lakshmi Hayagriva Hi all,

I am from India. History is one of the various topics that I am deeply interested in, especially if it is attractively presented and reads like a thriller. A couple of years ago, I accidentally stumbled across a potential solution to a very major and ancient mystery ( at least I like to think I solved it ! ). So history has suddenly become a professional area of interest ( though I am more of an armchair researcher than a formally qualified field investigator. ) I hope to hook up with like minded history buffs especially in the field of prehistorical civilizations of India.

I am currently plodding through an old book related to the above. i.e. The Arctic Home in the Vedas by Bal Gangadhar Tilak by Bal Gangadhar Tilak Bal Gangadhar Tilak

You can download it for free here : https://archive.org/details/TheArcticHomeInTheVedas

Thank you for the warm welcome, Jill. I will be kicking off membership here with a lot of reading initially so that I get up to speed.

There is an internal problem on this site : the placement of the flag buttons. Inadvertently brushing against it on a touchscreen, I hope, doesn't cause any disruptions. I had a bit of a problem to cancel it on a faulty net connection ( yet another problem that inhibits vigorous participation on social media sites with millions of users. ) That said, out with the complaints, and on with the games ! I am very happy to be here and look forward to learning something.

I am very happy to be able to join this group, I've been reading history books since my teens. The very first book that made impact on me was Chickenhawk by Robert Mason by Robert Mason Robert Mason. Since that time I've read it probably five times and I still like to nibble at it from time to time. My main areas of interest are affairs post First World War, particularly Vietnam and broader area of counterinsurgency, Second World War in it's entiety and I do enjoy reading classic belles lettres, Hemingway, Steibeck, James Jones etc..

I was born in Poland and I still live here. Since in few days we will commemorate the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, I would like to recommend to you folks quite decent book on that that subcject: Rising '44 The Battle for Warsaw by Norman Davies by Norman Davies Norman Davies.

As far as current affairs are concerned, there is also another book that came to my mind, Spetsnaz by Viktor Suvorov by Suvorov Viktor Viktor Suvorov, which nicely enables one to solve some parts of the jigsaw that we experience in Ukraine right now.

Regards,
Ada Teluk

Caryn (italianrose987) | 1 comments Hello all! My name is Caryn and I'm from the USA currently living as an half-expat in the Netherlands. I adore my transatlantic identity and love being able to see from multiple perspectives.

I'm a MA student of International Relations, so history plays a BIG part of what I'm interested in. Along with general history topics such as global events(ex: WW1&2, the Renaissance period, World Fairs, etc).. I'm also very interested in colonialism and political power distribution in the world (how people interact with their governments and how we interact with other nation-state gov'ts).

I joined this group because I am trying to get back into regular leisurely reading and also to keep learning new things after I graduated. I think this group has great recommendations for new reads and can set me on the right path!

Groetjes vanuit Nederland!

Sacha | 1 comments My name is Sacha and I live in Blackpool, in England. I recently graduated from the OU with a BA(Hons) in History. I would like to pursue postgraduate study and eventually teach at a university. My main interest is the history of science, especially in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Mike (mfmarsphoto) | 2 comments My name is Mike or Michael, of course after 6 1/2 years in the Military I've answered to worse. I'm finishing my degree in Secondary History education at the University of S Florida and I have an attraction for most any type of history. The fact that events of the past align very closely to events we've already dealt with is something that has always fascinated me.

C. Hampton Jones (champtonjones) | 8 comments Hi, I am crazy about military history whether Roman, Caroling, Middle Ages, I am interested in all. It must have been the fact that my father was an officer in the Dutch army who went to Indonesia and found my Mum there. Further I am interested in history. Period. It must be in my genes because I don't remember not being interested. I think I was in this group years ago, but I was not very active as a member. Anyway, glad to be back.

Jill H. (bucs1960) A warm welcome, Adam and thanks for the great introduction. You have done the book citations almost perfectly except for one which I will put as my example in the next paragraph in the correct format. Additionally, please put all citations at the bottom of the post for easier reading.

Emmy B. | 1 comments Hi, I'm Emily and I'm from the UK where I mainly work as a researcher on Chinese history (modern) and China's international relations. But I love history in general from ancient empires to modern Europe. I have a particular soft spot for 18th/19th century Britain, especially its social aspect. I'm glad to have joined this group, from my initial browse through I see so many varied interests represented, which will give me a lot things to read when (as so often happens) I find myself in need of procrastinating from my actual work :)
