Welcome to all the newbies. History is such a large and diverse area of study, there's something for everyone.
hi,i am japneet,a student, from India,...have always loved reading books....i find history very fascinating, it has always been my favorite subject, happy to talk about it!
Welcome, Japneet. I'm happy that you decided to join us. Browse our topics and start talking. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Hi AllMy named is Lazlo Ferran. love history; I couldn't study history at school so perhaps that's one of the reasons I now have a passion for it. Early (High) Medieval is one of my specialies. I first started to learn a lot about this period when I researched my family tree. It took ten years but I eventually located my earliest known ancestor - a Knight (Chevalier) in Languedoc, France in 1240. From here I studied books about the Cathars and French nobility and monasteries so that I can now write with some authority on this place and time.
My other historic speciality is World War II and particular air-force history. I have always been passionate about old aircraft and have a great
store of knowledge on the subject.
I would love to hear from any of you.
Yours
Lazlo

I'm Moonlight. I have no particular area of interest in history so I guess I would say that I'm a generalist. I read history because I am curious as to why things are they way the are. I want to know who the people were who created, built or discovered such amazing things. Many members of my family are refugees. Reading history, not just from their own country, but that of other displaced people has helped me understand them better.
I'm Jim, primarily interested in American and European history, fiction and non-fiction (like David McCullough, Wolf Hall, Patrick O'Brian, Bernard Cornwell). Just interested in understanding how we got where we are.

Hello. My name is Lance and I'm from West Virginia. I am a pharmacist by profession and up until my 40's a fiction junkie (particularly horror and Florida mysteries). A presidential badge collection that my parents gave me (which I have continued) and my son who moved from SpongeBob directly to the History Channel has fueled my interest in reading history. I have read a lot of presidential history as well as war history so far. I still supplement my reading with some fiction but as I age, um, ever so gracefully (not according to my wife), I get more and more excited to pick up a history related book!

Hi, I'm Alex I'm 15 years old and my principal historic interests are ancient history especially the Roman Senate, I am also interested in medieval history particularly the Angevin Empire. However all aspects of history fascinate me and I love to talk about them all. I hope to do history in Uni. I can't wait to get involved in the discussions.

Hi, my name is Maryanne, I'm currently working as a journalist and copy editor for a series of rural Australian magazine and newspapers. I love history, particularly ancient. From the Julio-Claudian's to the Aztecs everything and anything is of interest.
I'm currently reading both a study of Jesus of Nazareth and the Prophet Mohammed in two biographies by Reza Aslan and Lesley Hazleton, which are fascinating. I have also looked into various cultural eradication like the colonisation of America and it's affect on the native populace and the Al Nakba of the Palestine.
I hope discover some new books and time periods and to find more books on the topics I know and love!
Thanks!!
Hi there I'm Suad. I'm from Eritrea but live in Saudi Arabia. I'm graphic design student and I LOVE to read books whenever I get free and honestly the only history books that I read where at school but I always watch History Channel, so I was like "hey why not start reading some history books" so I went to a bookstore and when I reached the "History" section, I was LOST!! Too many books are there and I just didn't know where to start from, so that was my number 1 reason, for me to join this group is to get a little bit of help in how to pick the right and easy ones for me, as I'm kinda a novice here when it comes to history books. Please guys take care of me and shower me with the most inspiring, fascinating and mind blowing history books.

Hello everyone, My name is Emily and I live in Pullman, WA. I grew up in Nevada and went to school in Pocatello, ID. I am now working on my masters in special education in Moscow, ID. I love history and have always been drawn to its lessons. I especially like U.S. History and ancient civilizations mostly during the Mesoamerica times. I love reading about the Mayan's, Aztec's,and Inca's. I would love to learn more about Portugal and Wales.
History plays an important role in my reading life because I have always struggled with reading and History seems to bring me up when I'm feeling less confident. I recently finished "the worst hard time" by Timothy Egan.

Hi. I'm Dave, and new to the group. I've been in Cincinnati since July 2010, moving here from a life among all the lakes in West Michigan (I miss lakes).I looked at a few of the introductions and saw that many of you have a focus on one or two eras or genres of history that you know backward and forward. I guess you might say I'm more of an omnivore when it comes to reading history. I love all kinds.
I'm currently reading Paris 1919, and not too long ago finished a biography of emperor Augustus. Late 19th and early 20th century history is always fascinating because we can see how we wound up with the world we have.
Other than history, I fill in with other non-fiction, especially science, and science fiction, a few mystery and suspense writers and literature I should have read in high School and college. I think I'll enjoy your 50 book challenge in 2014.
I suspect that some of your discussions will be over my head, but looking forward to them anyway.
