My name is Janika, I am librarian in municipal library. I have loved history since I was ten years old. I read fact books, historical fiction and what if-stories in science fiction genre. Alexander the Great, Belisarius, Sun King, ancient China... ancient to 1700's. Some reason few past years I have been interested in military history and ancient wars.

Hello. I've been studying history since 2010 in University of Veliko Turnovo. This is my final year. We study most bulgarian history but now we discuss modern history. I think this group will be very helpful.
I have been on Goodreads for a while but was looking for a new group. I am a librarian at the State Library of Pennsylvania. One of the major parts of the collections is to collect and preserve the written, published works of Pennsylvanians and subjects concerning Pennsylvania. We have been in existence since 1745 and hardly throw anything away. we collect not only in Pennsylvania history but national and international topics as well. I am also a Goodreads librarian and average reading about 50 books a year. I am a judge for National History Day. as a teenager I was a Living History volunteer at Valley Forge National Park. Can you tell I love history and reading? I look forward to be challenged reading some of the eras of history, like WWII, or other geographical areas, like India, that I have not explored before.
Hi my name is Wendy, I live in Phoenix,AZ. I am a preschool teacher and I am working on my Early Childhood Education degree.I became interested in history because the right book, by Sharon K. Penmann , brought history to life for me in a way history class never had. Flesh and blood people just like myself! I read the first book in one night (i'm sure you all have done the same!) My initial love was for Medieval history, but then I went to Italy and fell in love with ancient history (esp. Roman). Reading Colleen McCullogh's books sealed that love. For me, a well-researched historical novel can be better than a non-fiction text. They bring lost eras to life (and not always romantically!) in a way that is lost in a lot of the dry non-fiction history out there.
I am so excited to have people with similar interests to communicate with. To most people, history is boring, to me (to us) it provides a universal perspective of humankind, along with excitement unmatched in most other books. Sorry to be so chatty!

Hello all, I'm from MN, USA and I joined the group because I love reading about history. I particularly like to read about the Middle East, Ancient Near East, and Mediterranean. I also like to focus on dance, music, and performance history as well as gender studies. I belong to several Goodreads groups focusing on those subjects/regions but many have a more fiction based following where historical and non-fiction are just not common. Since most of the books I read are non-fiction I thought I might be able to round out my goodreads readings/discussions by joining a group whose focus is largely on the non-fiction historical work.
Hello all! My name is Sarah - hailing from the midwest in the United States. I'm a pharmacist by trade and curious (to a fault) by nature. Love to read but until I discovered the joys of audiobooks couldn't really muck thru any history books without losing interest. Always been fascinated and horrified by the genocides we've seen scar our human history. Specifically what has haunted my soul for many years is the Holocaust. Poking about Yad Vashem.com led me to books on Varian Fry. Then onto Deitrich Bonhoeffer. Enter William Shire's Rise and fall of the third reich. As though that wasn't in depth enough - I pulled on my big girl pants and attacked Richard Evan's trilogy. What I've learned so far is just how vast is my complacent ignorance. Hello All - My name is John Walsh. Looking forward to joining this group. I am a Mechanical Engineer currently living in Nebraska. I have always been a avid reader, but since I have purchased an e-reader it has become excessive. I am interested in all history, and historical fiction. my main interests are Irish history and Irish Political history. Also fascinated in Russian history.
