Greg (gregmills) "Under the Dome" by Stephen King
ISBN 978-1-4391-6803-5 (ebook)
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/72...

Goodreads shows this book as having 823 pages. My Nook shows 1348. The Nook device uses a "real" page numbering system that doesn't change with font and line spacing settings. Nook page numbering is often different from other devices but seems to be consistent among Nook devices and apps. I suggest adding a "Nook Edition" book type, similar to the one Goodreads has for "Kindle."

Empress (the_empress) It shows 1200 pages for the edition, so changed to that.

I will wait for another librarian to come and give their say. I suspect it will be changed to 1348, but since I don't have experience with ebooks I prefer if someone else does it.

P.S. Thank you noting this, I didn't know the nook uses real pages.

WorldCat has 1074. That is also what the publisher provided initially.

Also, previous experiments by librarians have shown that the Nook claim to have "real" page numbers is not entirely accurate.

Greg (gregmills) Yes, the Nook "real" page numbering system is confusing. It almost never matches the number of pages that the publisher claims or any other edition in ebook or print. I've been in contact with B&N, Kobo, and a couple of publishers about it. It seems that B&N's modified ePub format requires some extra markup for the page numbering to be correct and a lot of publishers don't seem to bother with it. Even B&N's website will show the publisher's page count but the device will be different.

Here's the catch though. Even though the Nook page count doesn't match anything else, it's consistent across the entire Nook platform. You will see the same page count for a book in any Nook Device, Nook app and in their web browser reader. That's why I think a Nook book type or edition is probably the best solution for Goodreads.

At any rate, 1200 (or 1074) for "Under the Dome" is an improvement. If the difference between my Nook and the nearest Goodreads edition is less than 10%, it's close enough for me.
