Ulysses Dietz | 2013 comments Mystery? Romance? Really, more about Paranormal, so it's here...

Sam, as we all learned in book one of The End Street Detective Agency series, really just wants to lead a normal, human life. But the PI Agency on End Street, left to him by his beloved uncle, seems to have other ideas.

For one thing, Sam is having a hard time holding onto his anti-paranormal prejudices, particularly since he's falling in love with the adorably protective vampire, Bob, who rents one of the apartments upstairs. For another thing, Sam seems to be developing magic powers that humans aren't supposed to have. For all his denial, these powers can be useful when your clients include trolls, werewolves, naiads, sirens, fairies and vampires.

One of Sam's clients, the alpha of a local werewolf pack, is desperately trying to find his four-year-old daughter, while at the same time dealing with his own romantic issues with his demon ex-boyfriend. Oh, and then Sam's ex-boyfriend decides to show up.

Could it get any weirder? Oh, yeah.

Kell and Scott's storyline and romantic arcs are very fun to read. This is equal parts m/m romance and paranormal whodunnit. I confess, though, the writing seems a little perfunctory, and the romantic moments are heavy with the cliches of the genre. But the sex scenes are restricted to appropriate junctures in the plot, as the men, normal and paranormal alike, battle their emotional demons (in one case, literally).

I do hope the ladies continue on with this series; whatever its weakness, this duo can sure spin a yarn.

This series does sound like fun; it's now on my wish list. (Meaning, I'll get to it someday, I just don't know when!)
