The Hobbit is a wonderful addition to Mr Tolkien's collection of brilliantly written books, such as The Lord of the Rings. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's interested in adventure, fantasy, or simply well written stories. J.R.R Tolkien's works have are always thrilling page-turners, and The Hobbit is one of my favorite works of his.
The tale stars Bilbo Baggins, a wealthy and somewhat hesitant hobbit who encounters a very powerful and wise wizard named Gandalf. The wizard invites the reluctant hobbit on an adventure that will change his life.
Bilbo meets Thorin Oakenshield and his company of twelve dwarves, who join him on his adventure to the lonely mountain to reclaim their old kingdom and its hoard of treasure that was taken over by an evil dragon by the name of Smaug. Though this adventure takes him to the promised glory and a dragon's hoard of gold, it also promises ongoing danger.
Bilbo soon learns things about himself that he never knew before as he and the dwarves march toward Smaug and his stolen hoard of dwarven riches. They face many challenges and situations that require cunning and quick thinking, such as dealing with Gollum, getting captured on three separate occasions, and talking to Smaug, who communicates only through riddles.
They meet many heroes and villains on their journey, such as Beorn the skin-changer, who can shapeshift into a massive bear; or The Goblin King of the mountain, who takes Thorin and company prisoner while they sleep. Characters of various shapes and sizes can be found throughout the story and can do nothing but add to this adventure experience.
Bilbo the Hobbit with Thorin and company can lead anyone through this thrilling tale and, in my opinion, leave the reader wanting more. The author, J.R.R Tolkien, does not disappoint, and I will probably read more of his works that I have not yet read already. I truly do recommend this exceptional book, and I hope those who read it enjoy i's magical tale of ups and downs as much as I did.
