Lol. I don't feel that way about Max at all but I can see where you would have that perception of him. He knows a good woman when he sees one though. ;)

Finally finding some time to post here. :) I've been reading on schedule, but this is the first time I've been able to post (I have the app on my phone but I like to do large group discussions on my PC - no laptop here).

Anyway, I believe we're supposed to have read Chapters 12/13/14 for 5/14 but the last discussion was for Chapters 6/7/8 on here. I don't want to spoil so I'll just talk about the earlier chapters (8 & before).

I saw some of you talking about Ian being a good guy for Gretchen & I can't place him at all. Is he only in the Night Huntress books or is he in this series & was just forgettable for me? (I haven't started Night Huntress yet - no spoilers please).

Ugh. I am so rarely up for a love triangle. It seems overused & it's rarely done well. I am hardly ever torn between the two choices so it usually seems like a lame plot device to me. I do like Max, but I don't think he's right for Leila & I refuse to believe he's the bad guy & his motives for turning his back on Vlad if he's behind the attack (which I don't believe to be the case) were explained in Chapter 8 with his history with the Templars.

I think the vampire at the carnival is suspicious. She was watching Marty and the new Frankie right before their trailer got blown up? I don't know if you watch NCIS, but I am with Gibbs; I don't believe in coincidences. She had to be involved in it, whoever she is.

I am glad that Leila had the courage to leave Vlad when he couldn't offer her a real relationship. I know he told her what he could & couldn't give her; now she realizes that an eternity with him with those limits wouldn't be enough for her, so she left. I admire her for being so strong, but I am totally with most of you in hoping that Vlad would've tried harder to keep her (though he promised he'd let her go the second she wanted out). I think he cares more about her than he wants to admit, but is being stubborn because he wants to hold on to the love for his dead wife. I think he'll get over it though & admit he loves Leila eventually (it's very Dimitri & Honor from Archangel's Blade - Guild Hunter #4 by Nalini Singh). I hope he admits it in this book. *fingers crossed*

Marty is gone, we're all still wondering...
*if we can trust Maximus... and hasn't he gotten brave?
*Just wtheck did happen to the brunette vamp?
*Does anyone else think it's someone other than Vlad haunting Leila's dreams?
And now they're kidnapped... on a boat??? WOW.
Thoughts on Hannibal and who he could be delivering Leila to?

So I have questions about chapters 15/16/17...

What another emotional rollercoaster for Leila. Her powers keep growing and her faith and trust are constantly tested. My heart always aches with her loneliness and heartbreak.

Was anyone surprised by Vlad's appearance?
His arrogance is... well...
What did you think of manipulation of Leila?
Do you think Max will fully recover... and back off with his intentions toward Leila?

I haven't read The Night huntress series yet, so I don't know much about Menchere but he sure is intriguing...

And when it's all said and done... Is there still hope for our favorite power couple?

I can't imagine what happens next or who's behind the attacks.

What stood out in these chapters for you? Did Vlad respond as you expected? Do you think he'll forgive Maximus? Who do you think is after Leila and/or out to get Vlad?

Vlad is a very old vampire and always was arrogant. He probably was surprised Leila left him in the first place, and then thought she was dead. I knew he'd show up to rescue her. He loves her and of course he does it in style. I was a little peeved that Leila made him promise not to hurt Max. He new what would happen if he crossed Vlad. He has to know he never stood a chance with Leila that she was just hurt ,confused,and lonely. I love menches

Oops I didn't finish.. Lol I was going to say that I love Mencheres and their power. I love that she found him in her dreams. Maybe now they can work things out without Max!!!!

Excellent observations, Jen. And full of commonsense. I hope Leila and Vlad can wholly come together. And Vlad and Max don't have some ridiculous showdown over vamphood and loyalty. I also hope we see more of Menchere.

OMG. I just finished the reading for today (up to chapter 23) & I can't believe it! Marty is alive! Yay!!! And Max was lying to Leila?!? (As in he didn't really believe Vlad was behind the gas line explosion.) Wow. I am kind of peeved at Max now & really wish Leila hadn't made Vlad promise not to kill or torture him.

Though it's pretty obvious (even to Leila though she's still a bit in denial) that Vlad really does love her & she's breaking all his rules. :)

And yes, I want to see more of Mencheres too. Especially after the amazing display of his powers during the rescue on the boat. He's very intriguing.

Mencheres has his own book too, but veteran Frost readers met him in the NH series first indeed. You don't have to read those, but why wouldn't you? They're awesome, and if you think Vlad or Mencheres are the bomb..wait until you meet Bones and Ian ;)

So, anyway we're on chapter 24/25/26 today. I know you guys already finished it, but let's stick to the schedule in case someone wants to join the discussion.

- Leila's dad is hopeless...
- Leila with her overthinking, constant worrying attitude is a bit annoying at this point, but her reasoning is flawless.
- The romantic Vlad. Okay, I was the one who said he needed to show his real feelings, but whoa. The way like it just flew out of his mouth all at once made it a bit too cheesy. He was sweet, but maybe too sweet, IMO. (Yeah, I know I’m indecisive).

So, fan question:

-If you'd marry Vlad, what kind of wedding dress would you wear? (you can describe it or give us a picture)

I haven't read the whole book yet. I am reading on schedule (or catching up), though sometimes, it's very hard to stop myself from reading ahead. Especially with today's chapters; I really wanted to read about the actual wedding.

Though I thought all along, I do agree that this very quick flip to immediate wedding is a bit much for Vlad, even if it was in reaction to Leila's being dead for about six minutes. (Someone is going to have to explain ghouls better to me than Leila did by the way.)

I have no idea what I'd wear as a wedding dress if I were Leila: probably something classic yet modern, that showed off the back. That's all I can think of at the moment.

I'm not sure what I'd wear if I was going to marry Vlad. It probably would be red and big and beautiful.( like Wellsie if you read BDB ) when I say big I mean vintage all out. Vlad is old and powerful. I think red fits.. I think it's hard to find the right words to express Vlads love for her. Maybe it was a little cheesy, but its everything you'd want to hear...

Well, I'll just wait until I start the Night Huntress books to get the explanation (since I do mind a little spoiler).

And Jen, I've only read the first 3 books or so of BDB, but I think I recall Wellsie lending Beth her red dress when she married Wrath (the next book I should be reading in that series features Butch & Marissa I think).

I just finished today's chapters (30, 31 & 32) & it's going to be really hard to stop myself from going ahead in the reading now. I am so not good at stopping at cliff hanger chapters. And it seems like each chapter might end a little bit like that for awhile. LOL

So I expected it to come soon after the wedding, but how exciting is it that Leila is going to become a vampire? Do you think she'll have her psychic abilities after she changes into a vamp?

Vanessa, I'm with you, now that I've caught up I want to read the rest of the way through.

What I've got to say about the wedding? Not at all surprised that Vlad would go to that extreme. Not. At. All. Now Leila? She surprised me quite a bit. But then again, aren't a few of her choices really made for her? Hmm.

I didn't predict the next events or who the traitor was. I was a bit worried about Max. ;)

On the edge of my seat to see what's next.

I was waiting for someone else to comment. I don't want to give anything away. I will say this ... I never liked max. It makes me angry Leila defends him and even uses her wedding gift to release him. I love that Vlad just takes over everything and just wants to protect Leila , but she's bound and determined to help no matter the cost! I liked seeing a little Cat in the story. I miss them.. Ok hope I didn't go to far???

No worries! You and Vanessa have been the most active commentors. It's easy to get ahead.

I have to say I still love Max. I can understand Leila's protecting him. In the end all that he did was for her, wrong or right.

I was not at all surprised that Vlad went full bore with the wedding. What he did that I loved most was further ahead.
To Andie's question... the dress I would pick would be old Hollywood; sleek, streamlined and elegant, not too fancy or over the top.

And now I'm lost in the schedule and not sure what else I can say so... I'll let someone else comment and get us back on track.

Favorite scene is a tie between where they're chasing the vamp chick and where Leila kicks everyone's ass on the boat.

Favorite character... hm that's hard because I like Vlad and Leila obviously, so besides them, I really liked Gretchen and Maximus (i feel like I'm the only one lol)

What I want to see... pretty much the same as Shelley, an EPIC showdown between Szilagyi and Vlad where Leila helps too because I friggin' love her abilities. And MORE Vlad lines. I know he's the silent type, but seriously, it's like if he was one of the secondary characters.

Ok as my favorite quote goes.. Well I can't remember it exactly but it was when Vlad was telling Leila that they we getting married that night and he said to her something like "what did you think would happen when I realized I loved you? Did you think I'd want to date?" It was something like that.

As for my favorite scene.. I'll have to agree with Andie on those.

For my favorite characters- besides the awesome power couple I like Gretchen. I'm sure well see much more if her.

I really loved Leila and her determination to help regardless of what happens to her. She like Vlad have that fierceness about them to protect those they care about. Leila never gave up didn't give up even when she thought they were killing her she saved her sister. She fought like hell when the rats were eating her. She is just one bad butt girl. Together they are truly powerful.. I always liked Vlad. I just never wanted him with Cat and after Cat and Bones Vlad and Leila are my next favorite power couple..

1) I wanted more Marty time. I like seeing Leila spend some time without Vlad (much as I love that vamp).

2) As far as favorite quotes, I have two:

I love Gretchen. She was so much more likable in this book. Definitely my favorite character after the power couple (I'm over Maximus though; stopped liking him about halfway through the book). Anyway, I can't wait to see more of Gretchen in the next book once Leila gets her bloodlust a bit more under control.

3) And for the next one, I'm with Shelly and Andie; I really want to see Szilagyi dead finally (third time's the charm after all). I'd also like Leila's dad to get over himself a bit & stop trying to keep Gretchen away from Leila (I get it, but still).
