Sorry, I can't choose. Both books are timeless and excellent.

To Kill a Mockingbird was phenomenal.

Holden Caulfield is a self-entitled, whiny, pseudo-intellectual spoiled BRAT!! I wanted to beat the shit out of this snot nosed little emo from day one. I see jackasses like him all the time who look down their noses at everyone else and think they are more evolved and ascended human beings than the rest of us peons....this book is a joke and the only people I see who enjoy it are those who deify and praise Holden as their patron Saint of teenage angst and the "they just don't get me because I'm like, totally out of the mainstream!" crowds....give me a break
I loved Catcher In The Rye. It's a classic work of literature, and so before it's time.

Surely there are other books that have the same message, yet do not make my eyes bleed and beg to be stabbed out. The only classic that is worse so far is The Great Gatsby. I'm not advocating burning books, but I might make an exception for these two because they are so stinking boring.
I'm going with To Kill a Mockingbird on this one. I don't hate Catcher in the Rye, but it's mediocre in my opinion.
