You need to activate your Follow function on your WordPress site Tim, so we can all follow you, your blogspot site is not easy for us Wordpressers to follow :)

It may be an automatic thing on my twenty eleven theme but check under Appearance - widgets - and add one that lets people follow you by email, without having to go through LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Better, I have subscribed to your blog, so should now be on your followers list.

To see that, go to Dashboard - Home

Look for a button below and to the right of you stats graph and click it.

You should now see a more detailed graph of hits, etc, plus, on the left a world map and more lists below, follow these down to the bottom list and find blog followers, click on this and you should see a list of your followers.

To get back to Dashboard, etc, press the browser back arrow.

Then go to the banner at the top and click on your blog name (you may have to do this twice) and you should return to your blog.

I don't know how to get the corner popup, over to David on that one.

Good luck :)

message 24: by Chris (new)

http://www.?????

I'm with you, Tim. I'm still figuring Wordpress out, specifically how to figure out how to use photos from the Web on my site and how do you know what sites you can use?

I'll follow you guys. Like you, Megan, I like checking out other people's blogs, too. Mine is: www.relationspdbeverly.wordpress.com

message 41: by Robert (new)

Robert Spake (ManofYesterday) | 45 comments Followed both of you :).

As for which pictures you can use, there are some sites with stock images but most of them charge a fee (usually pretty cheap though). If you want to use other images I think you have to ask for permission from the person who made it, and give them credit.

Robert,

You need to change the comma after www to a full stop, in your profile page web address :)

message 44: by Pamela (last edited May 10, 2013 04:23AM) (new)

Pamela Beverly (writesistah) | 79 comments Thanks for the tip, Robert. I've noticed the stock images but then some say royalties so I'll check into it further. Thanks for following!

Liane, what is your website?

Following you too, Chris aka Ape! LOL!

message 45: by Tim (new)

Tim | 23 comments Including a picture from a site is pretty straightforward - right-click on the picture you want and select 'Copy image link' (the wording may vary from browser to browser), then in Wordpress, edit your post, click on Add media and select Insert from URL from the list on the left. Paste in the link and you're done.

Note that this is called "hot linking" - the picture still lives on their site, and viewing your page uses up some of their bandwidth, so some web sites explicitly forbid it (in which case you'd have to download the image to your PC and upload it into your blog).

That's just technically how to do it. Whether you have the right to do it is another matter, and you need to check the copyright and/or licensing conditions for the image. The safest assumption is always that you may not use the image unless specifically told you can. Look for terms like "Creative Commons" (or "CC") - often found in places like Wikipedia. Stock media sites are also an option, but they charge a licence fee.

Ubiquitous Bubba (ubiquitousbubba) | 21 comments I started a Wordpress author blog to post character bio's, awful alien poetry, book news and random pondering. Since my writing is character driven, most of the site is providing an introduction and background on some of my characters. Here's the URL: http://ubiquitousbubba.wordpress.com/

If you stop by, I'd love to hear from you.
