As an author you can add the book for free reading and appoint this edition for default edition
Here is how: http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/31...

Cheers, K

I think the place to do that is right by 'set as primary edition' where it says 'Refresh book rating stats.' But I may be wrong and in any case only a librarian is allowed to do that.
You ladies have been amazing.
Thanks

Once you've set a primary edition, even if shows correctly in search and on author page, some of the thumbnails still take a bit to catch up (notably series and listopia lists tend to be slow).

I have started new lists for the primary edition and emailed the handfull of fans who's emails I have from my website.
I will leave it alone for a day or so and then see if anything changes.
Thanks a lot
K

That can't happen; the older cover is supposed to keep the asin. If new cover generates a new asin, it's a new edition versus alternate cover edition.
Not sure if part of the listopia issue or not.
ACE note also does not belong in the edition field..

(Policy in librarian manual is at http://www.goodreads.com/librarian_ma... which says "...leave the ISBN[asin] fields on your new edition blank... Please do not use the edition field for information about alternate cover editions..." and also shows an example link of http://www.goodreads.com/book/edit/33... )

I'm afraid I don't know what an ACE is or where the edition field is. I read the policy in the librarian manual, so I understand that they do not want to attach the asin to the alternate cover edition. Unfortunately I could not understand how the information in the link to Nora Robert's book tied in with the moving of asin numbers but I think I have drifted into Librarian territory here and am in over my head.
Since the link to Amazon in the 'Online Stores' for the alternate cover edition links to other people's books and electrical equipment, can I put a link through to Amazon in the actual description of the book?

Once a correct asin or isbn correctly used by the first/original edition, it has to stay with that edition. The alternate cover editions need to have the isbn/asin fields left blank.
Unique rule to goodreads and weird but that's current policy (it's normal industry practice to get a new isbn or asin when a book is released with a new cover or new material). Part of the confusion usually comes between bookseller sites like amazon having product pages where authors/publishers/staff always want to maintain up to date with what is currently for sale with a lot of ebook authors just changing covers without getting new asin/isbn; goodreads has no product pages, only book data in a database goodreads set some standards and policies for — all editions stay put and are available for members to shelve "their" edition without ever getting an edition or bookcover removed or replaced in their "my books" shelves/catalogue.

For booksellers. Goodreads is not a bookseller, and thus not part of that industry.

(The Nora Roberts link was just a correct example of an alternate cover edition)

Thanks for messaging me for this as well. Sorry for not looking into the topic. I honestly forgot.

I just saw that we can refresh bookrating stats. Is there any point of doing it when addidn a new edition, or it is to be uses only when requested?
Thank you

Because lots of goodread data/features are cached (10 minutes thru 72 hours for different parts of the site), authors can get impatient. Particulalry if a new book had no ratings, then a handful of members did rate but cache was taking hours/days to update ratings detail and average out the star ratings rather than instantaneously. So, can be refreshed.
Only impacts the book's star ratings details. Does not impact listopia or any other features. If you go to a book page and click "ratings details" right under book title, you'll see what information is there (ratings for book, for this edition, added by how many members, marked as to read by how many, etc.)
(When goodreads librarians or authors refresh stats, there is a glitch still that sometimes gives an error message that you need to be a goodreads librarian that they are still working on. Until fixed, confuses the issue for lots of authors and librarians; if you get the error message on a book—post in librarian group for another librarian to try and eventually one of the librarians trying will get around the error message. It's a weird bug.)
