Wizard's First Rule was the best. That book was brilliance. Every part of it worked, and it all lead to a terrific conclusion. A lot of people in this and other threads will say that the first book in the SoT was the only good one, but that's unfair. It's just that Wizard's First Rule was sooooo good, and the ones that came after it were just ok. It's hard not to feel disappointed. Then Faith of the Fallen happened, which was also really good, and I started to think that Goodkind has found his groove again. I got super excited for the next one and then... Naked Empire happened. I'm sorry, but that book was utter trash. It was confusing, how can the same person write a book that was so good and a book that was so awful back to back? Either way, that book made me quit the series.

I first read Faith of the Fallen 20 years ago (along with the rest of the SOT). It is my favourite book in the series to date. I finished rereading it now and it moved me as it did all those years ago. Though I am a SOT fan, I recognise it’s long-winded narrative and other flaws. I loved reading them as a kid and now as an adult. Most aren’t great works of fiction, but they are a joy to read. Faith of the fallen is a masterpiece. I was rereading the series during this corona pandemic and even when I was reading Wizard’s first rule I couldn’t wait to to get to Faith. Temple of the Winds was also a unique read, especially given the present plight that the world is facing. I have never read reviews of the SOT series, after finishing Faith today, I just wanted to see what others thought about it, but I knew deep down that others would’ve recognised the mastery of the book. I wasn’t wrong, almost everyone ranks it as the best. I will stop SOT now and move on to some other literature. But, rereading this brought me a lot of joy, and nostalgia for the 14 year old boy who was in love with the SOT books and especially who learnt so much about life from this particular book. The magic still remains. Cheers everyone
