For example participants would have to read a book with a vampire character, then one with a werewolf character, then one with a witch character and so on. A requirement for this task would also be that the character has to have an important part in the book. The character can't be mentioned once in the book then never heard from again. They should be either the main character or a supporting character that gets a lot of face time

Vampire
werewolf
Ghost
Fae/fairy
Zombie
mermaid
Witch/wizard
What do you think?

I think those are good. I have a few others that can be hard too.
Banshee
Succubus/Incubus
Reaper
god/goddess
alien
elf
a hybrid
These are just suggestions. I just thought I'd throw those out there too cuz you want easy ones but then you want really hard ones as well. I'll leave it up to you but I can't wait to see the task! :D

So what about:
god/goddess
alien
fae/fairy
mermaid
zombie
ghost
elves

1. Read a book that is over 450 pages
2. Read a biography~ these are usually popular over the summer
3. For one of the big ones (50 or 100 pt task)you can do a task based on fairy tales like this:
Beauty and the Beast
1. Read the original Beauty and the Beast fairy tale
2. Read any retelling of Beauty and the Beast
3. Read a book that has a werewolf or shape shifter in it
I have more if you would want me to make this task
4. You can do a spell it out option using summer words like SUN, WATER, BEACH, PARK
5. You can do a task based on covers.. like read a book with a beautiful cover and then read one with an ugly cover or a plain cover or a scary/creepy cover
6. You can have a task where the purpose it to just read standalone books
7. You can do a scavenger hunt kinda thing where players have to look for an object on the cover or in the book or a scavenger hunt where there is a list of names and players have to read a book with a character who has one of the names on the list
Let me know what you think! :D

1. I've used this one a couple times, but I wouldn't mind using it again, maybe combining it with something else.
2. That would be a great idea! I haven't singled out biographies yet. We could open both doors and say either a bio or an autobio maybe?
3. 75 pt task is already taken, so we could use it for the 50, but it would have to be 5 books that need to be read. I love the idea, though! Have you thought out other fairy tales as well?
4. Yeah, I'm thinking a four-word spell-out (I'll look up some words later). The catch would be that you can only use important words in the title. No authors, series, etc.
5. I like the idea of using covers! I'm not sure what I would want the colours to have to be. I might make the cover task for this one a scavenger hunt type thing.
6. That would be such a good idea... I haven't done this one in a while I think. Maybe read 2 or 3 standalones?
7. OMG. DEFINITELY. (Sorry for the caps, I just like scavenger hunts haha.) But since I'm thinking about making the above cover hunt, I want this one to be the character idea you gave. And it might not be just names. I could add in objects, etc. Nothing too strenuous, of course. I'm not trying to kill anybody lol.
After I hear your comments on my above responses, then we can work on finalizing (I think I want to use all of these), we can get some point totals together.

1. Since you used this before I was thinking of how it could be changed. I was thinking instead of reading big books what about reading small book under of 200 pages or less? I'm thinking this might be better because it will be summer and people will want to be outdoors at parks, beaches, amusement parks or on vacation where they may not get a chance to read as much.
2. Yes I think Bios and autobios would be great
3. Fairy tales task: I have made up a fairy tale challenge in my own group that you can use to pick which fairy tales you want. There are alot of fairy tales there so feel free to choose whatever you want. If theres one thats not there, Let me know and I can make it up for you if you want :D
Fairy Tale Challenge
4. Yes four words would be good I think and I like the idea of just using important words in the titles cuz it make the task a bit more challenging
5. I'm glad you like the cover task :)
6. I think 2 or 3 standalones would be good. Would you consider the bio's and autobios standalones? If not then you can make it clear in the task not to use those.
7. I love scavenger hunts too. I think a mix of names and objects would be fun
I'm glad I could be of help :D

Idea #3, Thanks for letting me use this! I really like that idea. Will have to "remix" it somehow for the next challenge session LOL.
Idea #6, books can't be overlapped. That's one of the rules for the challenge, but I'll be sure to put under the topic that you can't overlap them for clarification.
I'll come up with the tasks and post them on the Tasks topic sometime later today or tomorrow. You can just look on there and let me know what you think :).

June: A book that has a wedding in it (considering June is the popular month for weddings)
July: Maybe a historical read to celebrate independence day.
August: A book that has to deal with the final days of summer and going back to school.

And just in case you two were wondering, I give courtesies to the people that give the ideas, so no need to worry about me taking credit haha.

Let's go on a Safari! Read books with animals on covers or in titles that you might see on a safari in Africa.
The Great Bird Migration: In the fall, its time for the birds to head South for the winter. Read books with birds on the covers or names of birds in the titles.

I like this one because i have so many books based on movies on my book shelf. lol

Examples: I read the book Gone: A Photographic Plea for Preservation which is about the Civil War in the Southern US States which then made me think of Gone with the Wind so I could read that book next. After Gone with the Wind I could follow on with Scarlett (Gone with the Wind #2).
I hope that all makes sense. lol

Diana -- These are all great ideas as well (and will be used)!
I haven't even written down all the ones from Joanne yet haha. I might need y'all to stop with the creativity long enough for me to figure out how many topics are open :). But I thank all of you for helping!

1. Read a book and the last word in the book must be the first in the next book.
2. Or read a book and then find a book with a word that is found in the first book
3. Or read a book and whatever the last letter is must be the first letter in the next book
4. Monsters university: read a book of someone in college and a book that will scare you or has monster in it or has a horror genre
5. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue: read a book that was published more than 50 years ago, read something that was published in the past year, read something that you borrowed from someone or from the library, read something with a predominantly blue cover
6. Make a meal: read something with a drink on the cover or in the title and the same for meal food and dessert.

Will use the #4 too. (15)
I will split #5 into two different tasks. Love the name by the way ;) (10s)
For #6, love the new twist with it. I feel like ive used this task so many times but now its been revamped haha. (20)
Ignore the numbers. Those are so I can remember the point values lol. Thanks for the wonderful ideas Meghan!

Books mentioned in this topic
Gone: A Photographic Plea for Preservation (other topics)Gone with the Wind (other topics)
Scarlett (other topics)
If you have any ideas whatsoever, post them below! As this session will be solely during the Summer months, I'd like you all to use that as a theme of sorts.
Available Tasks:
---
Point Value Requirements:
The little notes after the number of books required is sort of how I think when I'm making tasks. When leaving your ideas, just let me know what point value you think your task should go under.
5, 10, 15: Has to require one or two books being read. These should be fairly easy tasks, with a few that are a little more challenging.
20, 25: Has to require two or three books to be read. These challenges will be a little more challenging than 5, 10, & 15.
35: Has to require 3 to 4 books being read. Harder than the previous ones, but ones that can be completed before the 50 and 100 for sure.
50: Has to require 5 books being read. This task should be easier if planned, but still possible to just wing it.
75: Has to require 7 books to be read. This one will have to be planned out.
