Liza | 9 comments I generally listen to soundtrack, but sometimes I listen to others ex. Rock&pop.

Rachel Annie (snapdragoness) I mix it up, but lately it's been the album AM by the Arctic Monkeys on repeat.

I do feel like that sometimes, too. You re-examine your story too much, and ..."

I think I just have a one-track mind. It's either music or writing, one or the other, but not both. :-)

G.G. (ggatcheson) @Gary Val I am just like you. One or the other but never both.

Liza | 9 comments @Gary Val same here. I get so into my story, I forget I have music on.

My problem is that I just can't get into the story when the music is on because I start singing along with the song or humming the melody. Although, now that I think about it, I have had some luck with music in the background if it's some really abstract jazz where, if there is any melody, it's so massively obscured you couldn't hum along if you wanted to. But then I start tapping out rhythms with my finger nails on the edges of my laptop. I did try the droning sounds of an Aboriginal didgerido in the background. Sort of works okay but after a while I end up in an altered state of consciousness and forget that I'm supposed to be writing. ;-)

Chelsea Polk I have two things that I listen to while writing.

1. Music. I often create playlists that are songs that either fit the mood and feel of the story, or I create a playlist of the central character's music player in the story. I usually use grooveshark for this.

2. Sounds. I really like mynoise.net for various soundscapes. They have wind and rain, but also crowd murmuring, wind chimes, ASMR triggering noises, a whole variety.

I rarely write in silence. I find that it's really easy for me to get distracted if there's nothing to hear.

Emma (rpblcofletters) I second that statement :D

message 62: by Selena (new)

Selena I have soundtracks on my iTunes for various moods, though I can't get much writing done if I'm listening to songs with words, so I listen to classical mostly. Which leads to quite a lot of "lyrical" dissonance as I'm listening to say, "Moonlight Sonata" while writing something unsavory.

message 63: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) Love Moonlight Sonata! I love the classical piece of course but I also love what Viper did with the song. The lyrics are beautiful and the voice... oh my...

message 64: by Emma (new)

Emma (rpblcofletters) The third movement is the best.

 Tara ♪ | 445 comments I love Moonlight Sonata. :)

message 66: by Emma (new)

Emma (rpblcofletters) I keep begging my piano teacher to let me play a Beethoven (meaning Moonlight Sonata because I've read parts of it for fun - I clearly play well...) and when he finally let me play one, it was No. 1 in F Minor, not Moonlight!!! I was like, "Doh!" I just read it for fun, anyway. It took me like six months to learn it - it was really hard!!!
