Book about of a famous 1882 gang-rape case receives double recognition!

Nameless Indignities, to be released as a hardcover on May 10 (discounted price, pre-release)and as a kindle on May 20, is based on a vicious gang-rape which occurred in 1882 in IL. The story covers the investigation and arrest of the suspects, the trial, and the shocking aftermath and devastating effects that the crime had on the victim as well as many of her family and neighbors. It gives a detailed picture of how rape victims were perceived and treated in the Victorian era. The story was covered in the press for more than a decade and mentioned in one newspaper as late as 1924. The victim Emma Bond, who was my great-great aunt, survived but her life went into a downward spiral after the trial amid rumors that she had lied and that no crime had been committed. What happened to victims of rape in the late 1800s? This book gives an in-depth account of the mayhem that ensued when a young teacher was gang-raped in her rural schoolhouse in 1882. The story was closely followed by the press for more than a decade and still left the public guessing about what really happened. Some even theorized that she had lied to cover up a pregnancy & abortion. It was a case that captivated the nation for years, since it was never fully resolved. The victim was my gr-great aunt so I did extensive research, looking for answers. I found surprising evidence (unavailable to investigators at the time) which led me to form a new theory on the events - the book concludes with my thoughts on what probably happened.

However, it offers much more than a true account of an unresolved gang rape case. It delves deeply into the crime's effect on the victim, her family, and her community - the consequences being tragic and far-reaching. It is rich in historical details, and is also a medical mystery of sorts. The physical and pyschological wounds that the victim suffered were confusing, not only to her doctors but to Victorian society in general.
