Dolors (luli81) | 11 comments Beat poet, playwright, novelist, and documentary filmmaker. Linked with Allen Ginsberg.
McClure’s poetry combines spontaneity, typographical experimentation, Buddhist practice, and “body language” to merge the ecstatic and the corporeal

Rand (iterate) | 99 comments Very cool that he still performs with the surviving members of the Doors!

also cool that a character based upon McClure appears in Big Sur. One of these summers I will read that book there.

McClure first came to my attention through the Literary Kicks website... I only ever read bits and pieces of his stuff online though, never having come across any of his books. He's not included in City Lights Pocket Poets Anthology (which is a great little sampler for Beats old and new) though some of the others Dolors added on are.

Added his play The Beard to the "embodiment" list i had made some time ago.

Rand (iterate) | 99 comments & if i had a time machine, i would go to the Six Gallery to hear Howl. McClure read there also.

an interview with McClure is featured in the new book Text and Drugs and Rock and Roll and he also appears in Ray Manzarek's less recent movie Love Her Madly.

Rand (iterate) | 99 comments final thought for now: McClure as essayist/theorist.

his Meat Science Essays looks tasty!

Rand (iterate) | 99 comments McClure appears as a character in the new film adaptation of Big Sur.

Thanks for the tip on Old Angel Midnight, Michael. I will track that one down.

& yes it is sad that Manzarek passed recently due to illness.
